“Mark has been phenomenal every time we have used him. Not only does he take great care of the house but I feel bad coming home because I know that I won’t take care of my dog as well as he did. He is great at communicating and you can tell that the dog loves spending time with him.”

“Timothy was everything you’d ever want in a sitter! Kind, thoughtful, attentive, intelligent, quickly won over the pups, reliable, and communicative. And sends lots of photos too! We were so lucky to find him last minute and will DEFINITELY book with him again.”

“Margaret did a terrific job making sure my dog and apartment were well looked after while I was on a business trip. Came back to lots of tails wags. Would definitely recommend.”
“Sabrina is fantastic! Penny Lane was so happy, healthy and safe when we returned from our trip, and that is the sign we left her in great hands - Sabrina is thoughtful, and courteous; I looked forward each day to her daily photo updates while she was dog/apartment sitting with Penny :)”

“Kourosh is ery responsive and easy to work with. It was great having someone who is willing to stay overnight with my disabled, senior dog at a reasonable rate. It gets very expensive given I cannot board her so I really appreciate the peace of mind of having somebody in my home I can trust and who has patience with older dogs.”

“The boys loved Ricky! He constantly kept me updated with photos of them during their potty breaks and hanging out around the house. Ricky was very attentive and gave the boys lots of love and cuddles. When I got back from vacation boys were acting as if they had just gotten back from vacation as well. House was left just as I left it. Will be booking Ricky for future vacations!”

About: Hi! I’m Grace, and I’ve been an animal lover for as long as I can remember. I grew up with both dogs and cats and have always been the person friends and family call when they need someone they trust to watch their pets. I’ve cared for everything from playful dogs who love long walks to senior dogs who need a little extra patience and attention. One of my friends had an older dog with arthritis that I regularly helped care for, which taught me how important it is to pay attention to a pet’s comfort, routine, and individual needs. I’ve also cared for my parents’ dog for months at a time while they were away. She became my little sidekick, and I loved being responsible for her daily walks, meals, playtime, and plenty of cuddles. I’m a huge cat lover as well. I’ve helped neighbors care for their cats by feeding them, cleaning litter boxes, spending time with them, and making sure they felt comfortable while their owners were away. I know how hard it can be to leave your pet with someone else because they’re family. My goal is to make sure both you and your pet feel comfortable. I’ll treat your pet like they’re my own, stick to their routine, and send plenty of photo updates so you can enjoy your time away knowing they’re happy and well cared for. I can’t wait to meet your furry family member! ❤️🐶🐱 __________________ I work full-time during the week and work from home on Thursdays and Fridays, giving me extra flexibility for daytime check-ins. I’m available mornings, evenings, and weekends, and I love spending time with animals. Whether it’s walks, drop-ins, feeding, or playtime, I’ll make sure your pet gets plenty of attention, exercise, and care while you’re away. ________________ I know every pet is unique, and I’m committed to following their routine, respecting your home, and making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved. I’ll also keep you updated with photos and videos so you can see how they’re doing and feel at ease while you’re away—expect cute check-ins 😊
“Michelle is incredible. For ten days she looked after our two cats and our home. She sent daily photos and updates. She thoughtfully took care of our home, leaving it clean and tidy for our return. It's clear she truly loves cats - ours were so relaxed and chill when we got home. She's a great communicator, a cool and reliable human. We feel lucky and grateful to have found her, ❤️”

“Aolani took great care of our cat, Ralphie, while we were out of town for a weekend and made sure to provide plenty of updates and photos! Our cat loved Aolani's pets, and she left our home in great shape. Would absolutely recommend and book again.”

About: Welcome, I’ve cared for dogs of various ages, breeds, and sizes and am an animal lover! I am great for anxiously attached pets or pets who need a lot of human time. I am very experienced with dogs who are easily triggered or like to pull on the leash and can handle any dog up to 70lbs. I have a knack for handling anxious dogs and I think it has to do with my dog-voice and mellow demeanor :) Please feel free to reach out with questions and see my policies and other details below. 🐕 Meet & Greets: For any recurring services (daily walks for a week or month), I request a meet and greet ahead of time - 30 minutes max, free of charge. 🐩 Care Instructions: I request full care instructions (feeding, triggers/quirks, need to knows) at least 1 hour prior to service start so that I have time to ask questions and ensure proper care for your pet. 🐾 Availability: I am available generally all weekdays, weekends are TBD, please reach out with any questions! I am currently working part-time, with plenty of time for pet services and I am hoping to make it a full time gig because I love animals (especially dogs). I am also highly active and consider the best days to be spent mainly outdoors, so I am happy to be your pet's walk buddy! I care for pets like they are treasured family members - that means every instruction followed per parents, and no risky behavior! If they are anxious with other humans and dogs, we stay aware and away. If they are table surfers, we don’t keep food in tempting places. I only give pre-approved food and treats that have been left by you and I try and keep the daily routines so they are not too overwhelmed being without their family.
“Jessica was available last minute and did an amazing job with my cat Hobbes. While she stayed with him overnight she made sure to send photos and multiple updates through out the visit and eased my mind of leaving him home. Highly recommend her to anyone!!!”

“Eric was reliable and attentive. He carefully followed all care instructions especially being careful of where to keep things because our dog is king of thievery! Communication was great throughout the stay, and I received updates through pictures. I returned to a to our hotel with a relaxed, happy dog. I highly recommend him! He made my Santa Monica and LA experience a great one because I was able to explore it without worrying about my dog.”

I had turtles, reptiles, amphibians, budgies, cats, and dogs as pets. Trust me when I say that I would love to care for them all if Rover allowed more than just cats and dogs. I simply am an empath who truly cares about animals. 𝙑𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚. All my life I was fortunate enough to be around animals. My mother worked with an international rescue and helped the organization by finding forever homes in the U.S. for abandoned or neglected dogs. Through her and having to care for dogs at our home as a teenager, I know what it takes to be a top pet caretaker. I also have experience in taking care/grooming horses (equestrian lessons) and farm animals (animal sanctuary volunteering). 𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙖 𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙚𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧. 𝙄𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨. Protecting and advocating for the voiceless is my passion. I am a fierce animal advocate with a strong network of like-minded communities and individuals behind me. 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙢. I put your pet(s) as my #1 priority. You can count on me to provide great comfort and care because I will treat your bestie(s) like fur royalty. I provide attention with positivity and patience so your companion(s) feel seen. I am alert to needs so your pet(s) will not feel neglected. I am a trusted sitter with many years of caretaking experience. I can assure you that you can count on me to leave stress and guilt free, because I handle all the good, but also the worst for you. I update my calendar regularly so that it is up to date. I provide gentle caretaking at home for my pets. It looks something like being patient instead of forceful, for example, if a pet doesn’t want to come to me I do not go after them. I look for cues like body position, ears, eyes, etc. At home I also don’t spank to enforce good training or behavior. I enforce positive affirmation and lots of reward treats. However, I do not offer training services on Rover. My caretaking on Rover mainly involves walks and drop-ins. I hope to encounter housebroken and/or well-behaved pet(s). If your pet(s) are on the wild side, that’s okay too, it’s tolerable since I have experience. However, I will not extensively train or enforce client pet(s). On Rover, I offer high energy, positive affirmations, lots of play time, and undivided attention.
“Taya-Morgan is our regular dog walker but also our dog sitter when we are away on vacation. She not only takes great care of Yoshinobu (our 65lb pit bull) but is kind, super professional, and took great care of our home. We would 1000% recommend her.”

About: Hello! I am Libby, lover of all dogs. I have grown up with dogs my entire life (31 years!) and having just moved from London I need some puppy love as much as it needs me! My mother in law also runs a rescue home for dogs so have plenty experience with rescue dogs too. Looking forward to meeting your lovely pups! I am available and happy to walk your pups everyday at any time! Daytime is preferred but also happy to do evenings/ overnight stays and weekends. The dogs in my care will be treated like members of the family! I provide a safe, clean, and calm environment with constant access to fresh water, comfortable resting areas, and plenty of attention. I follow each dog’s routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, exercise needs, medication requirements, and any special instructions from the owner.
About: Based in Ocean Park and serving Santa Monica, Venice, and the Westside, I've been around animals my entire life. I grew up in Utah on a ranch with six dogs, horses, chickens, cats, and just about every other animal you can imagine. Caring for animals has always been second nature to me. I'm an avid outdoorsman and spend much of my free time hiking, exploring trails, surfing, and enjoying everything Southern California has to offer. I have a 4-year-old pug named Kofi, and dogs are already a huge part of my daily routine. I work from home and have a flexible schedule, which allows me to give dogs plenty of attention, exercise, and companionship throughout the day. I love taking dogs on adventures, whether that's a neighborhood walk, a trip to the park, a beachside stroll, or a scenic hike overlooking Los Angeles. Every dog is different, and I take the time to understand their personality, energy level, and needs. My goal is simple: treat every dog like they're my own and make sure they come home happy, exercised, and excited for the next adventure. Pet care is a big part of my daily routine. I work from home and spend much of my week walking, hiking, and caring for dogs. I also have a friendly 4-year-old pug named Kofi, so my days are naturally built around walks, outdoor time, and making sure dogs get the exercise and attention they need. My schedule is flexible, which allows me to provide frequent potty breaks, walks, playtime, and companionship throughout the day. Whether it's a neighborhood walk, a trip to the park, or a longer adventure, I genuinely enjoy spending my time with dogs. I care for every dog as if they were my own. I have a friendly 4-year-old pug named Kofi who often joins us on walks and adventures. Dogs in my care get plenty of attention, exercise, playtime, and affection throughout the day. I love taking dogs on long walks, exploring local neighborhoods, parks, and beachside paths whenever appropriate. Because I work from home and have a flexible schedule, dogs are rarely left alone for long periods of time. I make sure they have regular bathroom breaks, fresh water, exercise, and a comfortable environment where they feel safe and relaxed. We often bask in the sun on my patio as well! My goal is always to make your dog feel at home and give them a fun, enriching day while you're away.
“Veronica took very good care of my two cats when I was away for 10 days, I’m super grateful that I could enjoy my trip without worrying about them! Will definitely book her again if needed :)”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Santa Monica
Isabella is a highly attentive and caring cat sitter.😺🐈 She took care of our little guy while we were away and house sit and he had a great time. She was great at keeping up with his various care needs. She's very responsible and highly recommend her for pet care!

Ross was perfect for us and our 8-month-old puppy. Kind, thoughtful, good communication. First time taking care of Sesame while we were gone and he did a great job. Would recommend him any time and looking forward to having him watch over our puppy in the future.

Margaret is my first pet sitter to stay over and I'm so grateful that she made me and my animals have such a great experience. She sent me the cutest pictures throughout my trip. And told me funny stories of what they did so I was confident they were in trusting hands. She took care of my animals as if they were her own. And she played with them more than I do so I think they are really missing her. A real plus is that she is clean and respectful. I couldn't even tell someone stayed over. She actually left me a treat in my freezer which was so nice to come home to. Thank you Margaret! Thank you for being my go to! I'll be calling you again. :)

My husband and I hired Didi to watch our dog on our wedding day. She was absolutely amazing with him. She walked, fed, and drove him to and from the venue as requested. Didi ensured that Honey was well behaved during the ceremony and she even got him to pose for several pictures! 10/10 would rebook Didi for any occasion.

Robert stayed with Canela for 3 days while I was gone on a work trip. I came home to a happy and content dog! Robert was responsive and sent pictures sharing what she was up to. I knew she was in good hands and would 100% recommend Robert to stay at your house and watch your pup while you are traveling!

Samantha was so great with our new pug. It was our first time leaving him since adopting him and she made the experience so easy with her flexibility, patience, and constant communication. She sent us so many cute photos of moco throughout the day! We would definitely book again.

Mallory is absolutely fantastic! She juggled two very different dogs like a total pro and kept me updated with excellent communication throughout her long weekend stay. She was incredibly respectful of my home and went above and beyond, even taking the dogs to their favorite park that’s a short drive away. I highly recommend her and will definitely be rebooking.

FAQs for House Sitting - Santa Monica
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Santa Monica on Rover is $71.04 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 13,541 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Santa Monica. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Santa Monica walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Santa Monica maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Santa Monica choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Santa Monica. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
