“Georgia was absolutely amazing with our puppy, Fergie, while we were away. From the moment she picked him up, she kept us constantly updated with thoughtful messages, photos, and videos, which honestly gave us so much peace of mind on holiday. She followed his routine so carefully, asked great questions about his routine. We were especially impressed that she noticed and respected all the little things we’ve been working on with him, from toilet training cues to waiting patiently before meals. She even commented on how well-trained he was and how much work had clearly gone into him, which meant a lot to us. Fergie absolutely adored her. It was obvious from every update how relaxed, happy, playful, and cuddly he felt with her. Georgia went above and beyond by making lick mats for him, trying out his harness, taking him on walks, and giving him loads of affection and attention throughout the day. She genuinely seemed to love spending time with him, and that really showed. We came home to a happy, settled puppy and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. We’d trust Georgia with Fergie again in a heartbeat and would recommend her to anyone looking for someone caring, attentive, communicative, and genuinely wonderful with dogs. 💕”

“Amy really helped us out agreeing to housesit for our 7 dogs for a week at short notice. They are a lovely bunch but I have a very old lady who needs some additional care. Amy did a fantastic job of looking after all of them, they were all happy and relaxed when we got back and were clearly well cared for. The house was also kept really clean and tidy which was very much appreciated. I would highly recommend Amy”

“We booked Simon at the last minute for a two night stay at our home. Simon took wonderful care of our dog and our cat while we away. He gave us regular updates and sent photos. We would 100% recommend Simon and will be booking again.”
“There really aren't enough good things to say about Erin ! She was incredible from the moment I contacted her and throughout the hole stay !She is clearly very knowledgeable and experienced , and has so much love for dogs ! She went above and beyond when looking after our dog Loki and was excellent with communication , photos and updates ! IIt was obvious Loki was disappointed when she had to leave, he had such an incredible time with her !Erin also kept the house in impeccable condition :)”

“Hattie is as confident and diligent as a dog sitter and we were especially pleased to find the house clean and tidy on our return. Myrtle had a lovely time and was obviously very well looked after. Will definitely be using Hattie again.”

About: Thomas here, I’ve had pets of many kinds growing up, always loved playing with them and taking care of them. Recently my girlfriend Claire and I have done house-sitting for many friends which includes cats and dogs, sometimes two pets at a time (although happy to do more than two if needed). We’ve followed their feeding and walking schedules as needed, and always checked in with owners whilst they’re away. Any questions just ask :) Between my girlfriend and I, we both work from home a few days a week so often will have full-time coverage at home between us. We take turns doing dog walks in the morning, and evening. We have office hours so can always be sure to maintain a good feeding schedule in both mornings and evenings, along with a walking routine or any other tasks needed in your pet’s schedule. It varies from pet to pet, so we always ensure to adhere to any specific requirements from the owner first (medication, feeding requirements, routine). For some pets, that could be barring off certain areas to avoid hazards, or keeping certain things out of reach. Ensuring a good distance from other pets when out on walks if needed, monitoring for any worrying or unusual behaviours. Claire’s parents have a sensitive dog, so she is used to adapting to the pet’s behaviours to make them comfortable.
“This was the first time I had used scott but it definitely won’t be the last. I have quite a dog reactive Rottweiler and I was a little nervous leaving her with someone she didn’t know so Scott came over to meet her twice before his stay and came on a walk with us so that I could show him commands and recall. I was away for a week and he sent me video updates to show how settled she was with him. When I got home my house was very clean and he even stripped the bed and washed his bedding …. I shan’t hesitate to use him again and can’t recommend him highly enough”

“Zoia was amazing looking after my cat, Liquorice. She was so trustworthy, caring, and responsible, and it was clear from the start that Liquorice felt comfortable with her. Knowing she was there meant I could fully relax and enjoy my time away. She also left the place lovely and tidy, which I really appreciated. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Zoia to anyone looking for someone kind, reliable, and genuinely caring with their pet.”

“My dogs were very excited to see Gigi again and had a wonderful few days with her. She took them on some lovely walks and was a great house sitter as well. I would recommend Gigi to anyone looking for a dog sitter to stay at their home.”

“A very successful first sit for Ruby, Eloise was a great sitter, she seemed to settle Ruby really quickly and on our arrival home, Ruby was happy and relaxed. Couldn’t have gone any better, would definitely recommend Eloise!!”

“Aeron was so lovely when she came to stay and look after our two terriers I wouldn't hesitate to use her again! The dogs were content and if I didn't know I wouldn't think anyone had been in the house as she left it spotless! 10/10 ☺️”

“Angus was great with my dog Laika! He met my dog beforehand and they were very at ease with each other. I’d asked him if he was able to arrive before 7am for a day of dog sitting and he was able to happily accommodate that - great comms, really flexible and helpful, updates throughout the day and I have been left with a happy and tired dog! Would absolutely recommended and will look forward to welcoming Angus back! Thanks so much 😊😊”

“Jack and Amy took great care of our Jasper while we were away. He had a really nice day staying at theirs and loved his walks and all the attention he received. We were given regular updates and pictures throughout. All communication was very easy and helped to make everything smooth and comfortable. Highly recommend 😊”

“bryony is lovely! nova loved her immediately and we came back to a very happy pup. bryony kept us updated, looked after the dog and the house perfectly, and even walked nova early to avoid other dogs. thank you!!”

“Amazing first sit with Betty who gives the first impression of being absolutely lovely and someone who knows what she’s doing! Daisy clearly took to her straight away and we came back to a very happy, calm dog who’d had a lovely days of snoozes on the sofa and ice creams with a brand new friend. Betty also kindly agreed to do this particular sit at quite short notice as a way for her and Daisy to get to know each other before a longer one in a couple of weeks time. Thanks again Betty and Daisy can’t wait to see you again soon!”

Fantastic, just what we wanted! I would recommend Erin everytime! So reliable, nothing was too much trouble. The dogs loved her. Brilliant communication at every stage, knowing the dogs were happy meant I could relax and enjoy my holiday!! We had a bit of a disaster with my daughter’s flights home (coming home before us), as they were massively delayed…. This was no problem for Erin she took it in her stride and was so helpful. First time we’ve used a dog sitter, I would book Erin again in a heartbeat! Thank you Erin!!!

Eloise did an absolutely fantastic job looking after our two precious pups, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her. From our very first meeting, her genuine love for dogs and enthusiasm for getting to know our boys really shone through. She asked all the right questions about their routines, personalities and needs, which immediately reassured us that they would be in safe hands. She also arranged a second visit closer to the date we went away, which was such a thoughtful touch and gave us even more confidence before leaving. Throughout our trip, Eloise kept us updated with regular photos and messages, which meant so much to us and allowed us to relax knowing our boys were happy and well cared for. She was incredibly accommodating, receptive to all of the information we shared about our dogs, and had such a friendly, relaxed approach while still being completely professional. When we arrived home, our house was spotless, and, most importantly, we were greeted by two happy, healthy, contented pups who had clearly been loved and cared for as if they were her own. Thank you so much, Eloise. We feel so lucky to have found you, and we’ll definitely be booking with you again!

I don’t have a bad word to say about Georgia. She has looked after my 10-week-old retriever, Ralph, and made me feel completely at ease from day one. She’s helped with all of his basic training, including toilet training and building good habits around the house. It’s clear to see how happy, confident, and well-settled Ralph is because of the care, patience, and attention she’s given him. I couldn’t recommend Georgia highly enough to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring to look after their dog.

Bei Z was the perfect sitter for our Dog Riley. The communication with Bei prior to the sit was 1st class. The communication with Bei during our vacation again was 1st class. Daily pictures and videos reassured us that our dog was being well looked after. She also fed the fish and watered the plants which was most helpful. Bei Z was everything we were hoping for in a dog/house sitter. The house was well maintained during or holiday. We were so happy we have booked here again for our next holiday.

Mike has looked after our Spaniel a few times now. She doesn't warm to men so easily, being a rescue and more of a girl's girl, but she loves Mike and always greets him enthusiastically even when she hasn't seen him for a while. He takes good care of her, sends us updates and we come back to a clean and tidy house. Thank you
Harriette was really great, she came round to meet our cat ahead of time, and sent us lots of updates while we were away - our cat is usually quite skittish, but from photos she looked really relaxed and comfortable hanging out with Harriette! We’ll be sure to book her again if we have any other trips planned :)

Angus was great with my dog Laika! Thanks so much 😊😊

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in South Gloucestershire choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
