Rusty was made so welcome with Lorna . She is a very lovely young lady who loves the dogs she looks after. Rusty is only 3 years 8 months old and it is the first time he has been left with a sitter. I was very comfortable and happy to leave him with Lorna. I will definitely book with Lorna again !

Wow! I sent a message at very short notice, literally a few hours notice, to ask if Ted could stay overnight due to work. Carol replied quickly that she would love to have Ted. I cannot review Carol highly enough. We were kept up to date with how he was doing and with lots of photos. He was played wjth for the whole time he was there with numerous walks. He even came home with some home made dog biscuits!! We 100% recommend Carol and would certainly be happy for Ted to return there. He’s only ever stayed overnight with my mum so this was a huge ask…but he seemed to love it. Thank you so much!!

About: I hold a Level 2 Animal Care qualification (Distinction), I'm fully insured, licensed and hold a Canine First Aid Certificate, so your dog is always in safe hands. Licence number: 168532 What sets me apart is my patient, calm approach and focus on building trust with every dog I care for. Whether it’s a gentle stroll, an energetic walk, basic training or a comforting pop-in visit, I always make sure each dog feels happy, secure, and understood. 💚 I’m based in Thurnscoe, Barnsley, and cover the surrounding areas — offering reliable walks, pop-ins, basic training (lead work, recall, sit and stays) and plenty of cuddles along the way! Pet care is now part of my everyday routine — it’s what I do full time! I plan my day around walks, pop-ins and dog home boarding to make sure every dog gets the time and attention they deserve. I keep a clear schedule so dogs have consistency and never feel rushed or forgotten. When I visit a client’s home, I treat it with the same care and respect as my own. I always follow the owner’s instructions for feeding, cleaning and routines to make sure each pet feels comfortable and secure. I take time to build trust, offer cuddles and play and leave everything just as I found it — with a happy, relaxed dog!

About: I regularly care for a friendly cocker spaniel, so it's important that your dog is comfortable around other dogs. I've been informally dog sitting for around two years now and I really enjoy it. I work an office job during the week, so I am available to help from Friday at 3pm until Sunday evening. I'm an active sitter and love a long outdoor adventure in all weathers. I'm just as happy to take a stroll on lead down my nearby lanes, engage in a game of fetch or have a cheeky snuggle on the sofa for the afternoon - sometimes its hard to tell who's having more fun :) Your dogs will be free to roam around the bungalow, which is based in a quiet cul de sac in Great Houghton. There are no rules to where they can go, they are free to enjoy beds, sofas and the small enclosed garden we have out the back of the bungalow. I will try to stick to your normal routines where possible and will of course send updates and photos as many times as you need, I want you to feel just as relaxed as your pet. I work Monday to Friday so I'm only available on weekends. I usually have a cocker spaniel on a Saturday so please only get in touch if your dog is comfortable around other dogs I'm in a quiet cul de sac with an enclosed garden. There are lots of fun walks near me in varying length. Animals that stay here are treated as members of the family and will be loved and cared for as you would your own :)

I had a pre meet with Julie which was good. I felt Buddy was in safe hands and a prefect setting throughout his stay (walled secure garden & near open fields and woods), and I received daily updates. Julie was keen to understand all Buddy's needs and to try and continue the same input, discipline and rules he has at home. Feedback was excellent and I had a good debrief session when I went to collect Buddy. I would definitely use Julie again and I would recommend her.

We couldn't have asked for a better dog sitter! Maria looked after our dog while we were in hospital for the birth of our son via a planned C-section, and she completely put our minds at ease. She kindly offered to have him the night before our scheduled booking at no extra cost, which took so much stress out of an already busy time. When our discharge from hospital was delayed, she also kept him for the rest of the day without asking for any additional payment. Throughout his stay, Maria kept us updated with messages and photos, so we always knew he was happy and having a great time. He got on brilliantly with her Chihuahua, and it was lovely to see him so relaxed and enjoying himself. Maria went above and beyond for us during such an important time, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend her. We'll definitely be booking with her again. Thank you so much, Maria! 🐾💙

Rebecca is a lifesaver! This was Lizzie's 1st time away from home so I was quite anxious about how it would affect her. I needn't have worried as Rebecca was very caring and Lizzie loved her from the first meeting. She was very friendly and professional, sending regular updates whilst we were away, enabling us to have a stress free trip. Lizzie was happy and calm when I picked her up, I don't think she missed me at all! I would definitely book Rebecca again, and can fully recommend.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for Dog Boarding in Barnsley on Rover is £32.2 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of Dog Boarding easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for Dog Boarding. For more information on service fees, click here .

Finding the right boarding environment is all about peace of mind. Boarding with a sitter on Rover helps you find a cosy experience in a real home for your dog.

When searching for a host, look for a sitter who:

  • Offers a secure, home-like environment that is clean and welcoming
  • Adheres to your dog’s established routine for meals, activity, and rest
  • Possesses relevant experience with your pet’s specific breed, size, and personality
  • Maintains clear communication regarding the frequency of photo and message updates

Don’t skip the Meet & Greet! The free Meet & Greet is the best way to see where your dog will sleep and who they might play with.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Sitters in Yorkshire and the Humber may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
