Both my partner and I work flexibly. This means we can plan our days around the dogs we care for, including regular toilet breaks, walks, feeding times, playtime and plenty of cuddles. We are usually able to make sure someone is at home for most of the day, so dogs are not left for long periods of time. We like to keep each dog’s routine as close to their normal home routine as possible, whether that’s morning walks, garden time, quiet time, or extra attention if they need reassurance. Caring for dogs is something we genuinely enjoy, so we’re happy to fit our schedule around their needs and make sure they feel safe, settled and loved during their stay.

Safety, trust & environment

For dogs staying in our home, we aim to make them feel safe, settled and treated like part of the family. We follow the owner’s usual routine as closely as possible, including feeding times, toilet breaks, walks, medication if required, playtime and rest. Dogs have access to a comfortable home environment, a secure garden for toilet breaks and play, and plenty of attention, cuddles and reassurance throughout their stay. For daycare, we provide a safe and relaxed environment where dogs can enjoy company, playtime, walks if required, garden time and quiet rest periods. We understand that every dog is different, so we adapt the day depending on whether they are energetic and playful or prefer a calmer, more settled routine. For dog walking or visits in the pet owner’s home, we always respect the owner’s property and follow any instructions carefully. This may include walking, feeding, topping up water, letting the dog out for toilet breaks, giving medication, cleaning up after them and making sure they are comfortable before we leave. We always ask owners to provide details about their dog’s routine, behaviour, likes, dislikes, feeding, health needs and emergency contacts so we can give the best possible care.

Information Chloe S. would like to know about your pet

Before looking after any pet, it is important for us to know as much as possible about their routine, personality and care needs so we can make sure they feel safe and settled. We ask owners to let us know about feeding times, portion sizes, toilet routine, walking needs, sleeping arrangements, medication, allergies, health conditions and emergency contact/vet details. It is also important for us to know about their behaviour, including how they are with other dogs, people, children, being left alone, on walks and in new environments. We also like to know their likes, dislikes, favourite toys, commands they understand and anything that may make them nervous or unsettled. This helps us care for each pet properly and keep their routine as close to home as possible.

A typical day

The activities we do depend on each dog’s personality, age, energy levels and what their owner is happy with. We always want pets to feel safe, happy and comfortable while they are in our care. We love taking dogs for walks in the local area, especially around Elsecar Park, giving them plenty of time to explore, sniff and enjoy being outside. We also offer playtime in the garden, fetch and lots of interaction to keep them entertained. For dogs who prefer a calmer day, we provide cuddle time, chill time, gentle play and quiet rest periods so they do not feel overwhelmed. We always adapt activities to suit each dog, whether they are energetic and playful or prefer a more relaxed routine. Our aim is to make sure every dog has a fun, loving and happy stay with us.

Pet care experience

Hi, I’m Chloe! I’m 22 years old and have been caring for dogs since I was around 10. Dogs have always been a huge part of my life and I genuinely love giving them the care, attention and affection they deserve. ❤️ I have a Shih-Poo called Lottie, who lives with my mum, and I absolutely love her to bits. I also had a Westie x Maltese called Ellie, who sadly passed away at the amazing age of 13. Towards the end of her life, Ellie developed a stomach tumour and required a lot of care, including medication, a strict diet and day and night attention. I used to take her out in a doggy pram alongside Lottie so she could still enjoy being outside. Over the years, I’ve often been the first person family and friends come to when they need someone trustworthy to look after their pets. Since starting Happy Hounds Elsecar, we’ve had the pleasure of caring for lots of lovely dogs, including Lottie, Peggy, Star, Buddy, Storm, Scampi, Jess, Nala, Yogi and Delilah. Each dog has had their own personality, routine and needs, which has given us great experience with different temperaments, breeds and care requirements, from playful dogs who love garden time and walks, to dogs who prefer cuddles, calm company and reassurance. We currently do not have any pets living in the house full time, although Lottie does still come for sleepovers every now and then. Your fur-baby would be staying with my boyfriend and I in our home and would receive plenty of love, care, attention and cuddles from us both (me and my boyfriend Josh). 💖 🩺Pet First Aid Trained We always aim to make every dog feel safe, settled and treated like part of the family during their stay. We were nervous about leaving our pup as he’s only 4 months old but he had a great stay with Chloe and her partner. He wasn’t even too bothered when we picked him up and would have happily stayed 😂 Great communication especially regarding meet up and booking etc and no issues at all Thank you 🥰
