About: I have grown up around dogs and have owned two dogs in the past, giving me a strong understanding of daily dog care, routines, and responsibilities. In addition, I have regularly looked after family and friends’ dogs while they are away, providing feeding, walking, companionship, and home-based care. Through this experience, I’m comfortable caring for dogs with different personalities and needs, including those who prefer a calmer, more relaxed environment. I understand how important it is for dogs to feel safe, settled, and well cared for when away from their owners. I work full time during the week, so I offer dog sitting at weekends only. This allows me to be fully present and give pets my complete attention without work commitments I provide a calm, caring, and safe home environment for dogs. While I don’t currently own a dog myself, this allows me to give my full attention to any pets staying with me. My home has a secure, fully fenced garden, allowing dogs to enjoy safe outdoor time. I live right next to a park and have access to lots of nearby walking routes, so dogs will receive regular walks, exercise, and mental stimulation suited to their needs. I understand how important trust is when leaving your pet with someone new, and I’m happy to provide updates, photos, and reassurance throughout their stay.

About: I have looked after friends and families dogs/cats and even budgies for many years. I am canine first aid trained. I love meeting new animals and adapting my skills to suit them. I cater for all ages of pets and look forward to meeting many more furry friends. I am respectful to my surroundings at other people’s homes and I like to keep the owners updated during my time with their beloved pet. I work part time and work pet care around this. All my requests are carefully considered to meet the pets needs the best I can. When I house sit at people’s houses, I will always request a meet and greet beforehand. I ask the owner if their pet has any special requirements/triggers/behaviours that I need to keep an eye on. I will ensure the animal is where it needs to be in the house before I leave and always ensure the pet is fed at the correct times and always has fresh water to hand.

About: From a young age, I've always had pets in my life, whether that is a dog, a cat, a rat, a hamster and more and that is what drives me to become a pet sitter. Animals give me joy and I love being around them! Pets are part of our family and I will treat them as if they were my own when I'm caring for them ☺️ I'm currently working full time but normally work from home so can easily drop in to see your pets or walk them to fit around my schedule. I will always ensure they have been well fed, water checked, walked (if applicable) and their environment is suited to their needs. Sometimes my wife, Islay, helps out if we have several bookings or I'm working late. If this will be the case, we always come to meet and greet visits together so you can meet us both and we both get to know your pet. I will ensure I fully understand your pets needs and personality to ensure they receive the best treatment possible. I know each pet is different!

About: I have a little pet care experience, watching over my friends cats Nelson and Dorito for a couple times. My family also had a German shepherd I used to look after. Fury friends always make me smile whenever I see them on the walk, and I dream about the day we’re going to welcome a dog to our home as well. I’m currently taking some time off work, so available most of the time during week and weekends as well, so gladly spend some quality time looking after your loved ones. I don’t have any pets, but your dog is going to be very loved by my family who adore pets as much as I do, if you need an over night stay.

I can’t thank Marie and Tony enough for house and dog sitting for me for my shepherd cross. We met up a few times beforehand and exchanged lots of messages. They really put my mind at ease and my dog Bonnie took to them straight away. Marie sent me photos and messages while I was away so I could see that Bonnie was enjoying herself. The house was left clean and tidy too which was a bonus. I will definitely be using their services again!

About: I’ve always loved being around dogs and spending time outdoors, so dog walking is something I genuinely enjoy rather than just a job. Whether it’s a relaxed stroll, a long adventure, or exploring new routes, I’m happiest with a four-legged friend by my side! 🌿🐕 I’m an active, caring, and reliable person who will always match the pace, personality, and energy of the dog I’m with—whether they’re full of zoomies or prefer taking life one sniff at a time. A little about my experience 🦴 I’ve had dogs for over 10 years and have regularly cared for the pets of family and friends, so I’m comfortable with different breeds, personalities, and routines. I also have a Labrador of my own, so I know all about the energetic, slightly chaotic “crazy dog” moments! Whether your dog loves to run, play fetch, swim, or simply curl up for cuddles, I’ll make sure they feel safe, happy, and loved throughout our time together. Every dog is unique, so I’ll always take the time to get to know their routine, personality, and what makes them happiest. ❤️ I’ll also keep you updated with plenty of photos and messages 📸 so you can relax knowing your best friend is having a great time. I’m currently working part-time, so I’m able to offer flexible availability Monday- Wednesday. I am happy to provide morning, afternoon, and evening drop-in visits where possible. Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priority. I make sure to follow all care instructions closely, keep pets secure during walks and visits, and provide a calm and caring environment while you’re away.

About: I’ve grown up with large and giant breeds, so I’m very comfortable supporting strong or high-energy dogs. I also have experience caring for dogs on long-term medication and following detailed care plans. I pride myself on gentle, thoughtful care tailored to each dog’s needs. I work part-time, so I have lots of availability throughout the week, including evenings and weekends. My schedule is flexible, which allows me to offer consistent care that can fit around your dog’s needs. When caring for pets in my home, I provide a calm and comfortable environment with a large, securely fenced back garden and plenty of grass for safe play and enrichment. Dogs are welcome on the furniture, and I keep the atmosphere relaxed, supervised and reassuring so they feel at home. When I’m caring for pets in an owner’s home, I follow your routines exactly, respect all house rules, and keep communication clear so you always know how your dog is doing. Walks are safe and controlled, always tailored to your dog’s pace and confidence level. My priority in every service is safety, consistency and creating a warm, trusted environment where pets feel relaxed and secure.

About: As a lifelong dog lover and proud pet parent myself, I understand firsthand how important it is to find someone you can trust with your furry family members. I have my own dogs at home, which means I know the daily joys, challenges, and responsibilities that come with keeping pets happy and healthy. From feeding schedules and playtime to exercise, training, and lots of love, I bring the same level of care and attention to the dogs I look after as I do with my own. RATES ARE NEGOTIOABLE I’ve always had a natural love for animals, and caring for them has been a big part of my life. Whether it’s dogs, cats, or other pets, I find joy in making them feel safe, happy, and loved. As a true animal lover, I treat every pet as if they were my own—providing patience, affection, and dependable care. With my own dogs at home, I understand how much pets mean to their families, and I’m dedicated to giving them the same love and attention they get with you. ⸻ I believe every pet deserves a trusting and safe environment where they can feel comfortable, relaxed, and happy. My priority is creating a space where pets are cared for with patience, kindness, and attention to their individual needs. Whether it’s sticking to their daily routine, providing plenty of play and exercise, or offering calm reassurance, I make sure each animal feels secure and loved. Pet parents can have peace of mind knowing their furry friends are in reliable, caring hands.

About: I regularly care for a friendly cocker spaniel, so it's important that your dog is comfortable around other dogs. I've been informally dog sitting for around two years now and I really enjoy it. I work an office job during the week, so I am available to help from Friday at 3pm until Sunday evening. I'm an active sitter and love a long outdoor adventure in all weathers. I'm just as happy to take a stroll on lead down my nearby lanes, engage in a game of fetch or have a cheeky snuggle on the sofa for the afternoon - sometimes its hard to tell who's having more fun :) Your dogs will be free to roam around the bungalow, which is based in a quiet cul de sac in Great Houghton. There are no rules to where they can go, they are free to enjoy beds, sofas and the small enclosed garden we have out the back of the bungalow. I will try to stick to your normal routines where possible and will of course send updates and photos as many times as you need, I want you to feel just as relaxed as your pet. I work Monday to Friday so I'm only available on weekends. I usually have a cocker spaniel on a Saturday so please only get in touch if your dog is comfortable around other dogs I'm in a quiet cul de sac with an enclosed garden. There are lots of fun walks near me in varying length. Animals that stay here are treated as members of the family and will be loved and cared for as you would your own :)

About: I’ve loved animals since I was little. I’ve looked after family and friends dogs in the past by feeding them and taking them for walks. I am currently unemployed so I’ve got a lot of free time on my hands so I can fit around everyone’s schedules if I’m needed to. I have a fenced garden for your dogs to fun around. It’s not the biggest garden but I do a trail what’s lively for dog walking. I can crate your dog if needed.

About: I have had the privilege of caring for both dogs and cats for the past 23 years, and over that time, I have gained a deep understanding of their unique needs and personalities. From feeding and grooming to training and health monitoring, I’ve experienced the joy and challenges of looking after these beloved animals. I’ve learned the importance of building trust with each pet, recognizing the subtle signs of their emotions, and ensuring they feel safe and comfortable. Whether it's taking dogs on long walks, playing with cats to keep them mentally stimulated, or managing their diets and vet visits, my years of experience have equipped me with a solid foundation in providing the best care possible. Each pet has its own quirks, and I take pride in adapting my approach to suit their individual needs. I currently work full-time Monday to Friday, but I am available to care for your pets before 8:30 AM and after 5:00 PM. Depending on the day, I can also assist during lunchtime if needed. When caring for pets in their owners' homes, I prioritize creating a familiar and comfortable environment for the animals while ensuring their routines remain as consistent as possible. I follow the owners' instructions closely, from feeding schedules to medication routines, and make sure to provide plenty of affection, playtime, and exercise to keep them happy and engaged. I maintain a clean and safe space for them, paying attention to their emotional needs by offering companionship and minimizing stress during their owners' absence. Whether it's a daily walk, play sessions, or simply offering a quiet space for rest, I ensure that each pet feels secure and well-cared for, just as they would in the presence of their owners. My goal is to provide peace of mind to the pet owners, knowing their pets are in good hands and receiving the love and attention they deserve.

Melissa was so caring and conscientious looking after my dog Majky, who has medical needs while we had a weekend away. I was nervous to leave him and my other pets but she honoured all of my requests and attended to all his needs. Majky can be a difficult dog to win over and he needs a lot of attention but Melissa was very patient with him and he had a fantastic time while she was pet sitting, as seen in the photo updates she sent me. I will definitely be booking again in the future and recommending her to my friends.

Bryony was absolutely wonderful with my dogs! From the very first meeting, she put both me and my pups at ease with her calm, friendly energy. She clearly has a natural connection with animals, and my dogs warmed up to her straight away. Throughout her time with them, she went above and beyond – sending me regular updates and photos that showed just how relaxed, happy, and well cared for they were. It was such a relief knowing they weren’t just being looked after, but genuinely loved and treated like her own. I felt completely confident that they were in safe hands, and that peace of mind is priceless. I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter – Bryony is reliable, thoughtful, and truly amazing at what she does. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for someone to care for their pets as if they were family!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Barnsley on Rover is £28.75 per night (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of June 2026, there are 2,536 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Barnsley. Enter your postcode to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best time to agree on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a 'home cheat sheet' that includes your preferred Barnsley walking routes, the location of your favourite pet shop, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Barnsley choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
