“This was our 2nd time with John and Joanna. This time we brought our small dog over for an overnight stay. Our pup was nervous, but Joanna really knows how to properly introduce a newcomer to her “pack.” She was patient and kind, and our pup did wonderfully well - she’d never been away from home before, so this is a huge endorsement! We will definitely be staying here again, and I’d highly recommend John and Joanna!”

“Jeannette took good care of LuLu during the stay, and sent multiple pictures updates. I will definitely recommend and will book again if I need a sitter in the future! Thanks again Jeannette!”

“Veronica is great! We needed a pet sitter last minute and Veronica was eager to help. Yukon can be a bit difficult when he is in a new environment as he is scared of everything but that didn't matter to Veronica. While we were gone she sent updates and pictures and even took Yukon for a run. She also responded very quickly to any message I sent and was super flexible with pickup and drop off times. We will definitely be using Veronica in the future!”

“Suzi took great care of Hyuna. She sent frequent updates and pictures which made me feel very comfortable knowing that my dog was being well taken care of. I can tell that Hyuna loved her stay, and had a lot of fun! We look forward to booking with Suzi again soon, and recommend her to anyone who’s interested in her services!”

“Noelle is a wonderful person. She really makes you feel like your dog is in the best care possible. She provided great updates on how their time together was going and it really helped ease my nerves of using a sitter for the first time. She is great and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone that will make your pup feel like they are right at home.”

“Wyatt was a great caretaker for our pup, Maya. She seems like she got a lot of love, attention, and care. She got great socialization and exercise every day. We look forward to having Wyatt caring for Maya again soon!”

“Our dog Solo stayed with Melissa over the July 4th holiday weekend. She took excellent care of him and sent texts to let us know how he was doing and multiple pictures every day. He looked like he felt quite a home at her place. She took him for a long walk every morning and he got many potty breaks during the day. He also really enjoyed sitting out on her balcony watching the squirrels. Melissa took excellent care of Solo and I would highly recommend her to take great care of your dog.”

“Our usual 🐾 sitter was unavailable, so we were on a search . . . that led us to Samantha, who was easy going and professional from the beginning. She assured us that she was experienced caring for one dog at a time and was generous enough to meet up before our actual reservation. She asked about Creagh’s personality and particulars and kept us updated with daily texts and photos. We unexpectedly cut our trip short, and Samantha was flexible with pickup. She also provided a lovely thank you note and treat upon pickup which was such a thoughtful personal touch too. No doubt Samantha and her family will be our go to next time we need a 🐾 sitter.”

“Angela is great! I’m typically a sitter and this was my first time booking a service with Rover. Our young guy is new to the family and we had to board him unexpectedly. Angela was very communicative about her availability, she took great care of Kai even with him still learning new commands and interactions with people and dogs, and send pictures and videos every day! I would completely book with her again when we may need. :)”

“Candice was very sweet and took great care of our boy Wyatt as if he was her own. Candace kept us up-to-date with daily texts and photos. We highly recommend Candace and look forward to using her in the near future.”

“Remy looked like he was very comfortable and happy with Andrew and his family! It was great to get some fun photo updates and hear how well Remy did settling in and being well taken care of.”

“Corey was great with my dog. He sent frequent updates and spent good quality time with onyx. Onyx was happy to see us and was tired from all the play. I will certainly use him again.”

“Brianna was wonderful! She took great care of my dog for three days and sent me beautiful pictures throughout the stay, which gave me so much peace of mind. My dog came home happy, relaxed, and well cared for. I highly recommend Brianna and would definitely trust her again. Thank you!☺️”

“Scout was not ready to leave this house. David and his family were amazing sitters and will be hearing from me the next time I require care. Thank you guys for taking such great care of Scout!!”

“Cassidy was BY FAR the best sitter I’ve ever had. She gave me many updates, would respond within 5 minutes if I ever texted her, and really knew what she was doing. My dog was definitely happy and healthy the entire time she was there. Highly recommend.”

“This is an absolutely fantastic choice for a dog-sitter, in my mind. Leslie was loving, caring and she treated Frances, my terrier-dachshund with the closest and kindest attention—plenty of walks, balanced diet, happy human company to sleep with when she desired, and various places to rest—so Leslie passed those all those important measures. She also sent me photographs with comments fairly often, which delighted me and made me know that Frances was safe and happy! But then, of Great value was the fact that she always could find positive human companionship—her cousin came, and let Frances and another dog, sleep on his knee, looking utterly content, her roommate really liked Frances and showed it, and Leslie did too. AND there was always her dog, and then occasionally a neighbor’s dog or another client’s dog visiting for a number of hours. That was Heaven for Frances, and just what I was hoping for. A place where Frances could be, as Leslie put it, a member of a pack. NOT a large, in any way overwhelming pack, but a small pack, consisting of one or two or conceivably three other dogs, which she could be with. THAT and the essential human warmth which was very much present—was all I could dream of—and Leslie provided it. Thank you so, so much. I will definitely use her services again! Leslie is cause for peace of mind, great happiness and satisfaction for Frances and me.”

“Initially my wife and I were very worried about using Rover. We found Cindy and decided to give her a try since her reviews were fantastic, and we're really glad that we did! Cindy lives very close to us and has a large backyard for the dogs to play in, which was important to us. We didn't want our dogs to be inside 24/7 in a cage like many of the boarding kennels are. With Cindy, our dogs are able to play outside most of the day. This was our second time boarding our two dogs with Cindy. We have been super happy with Cindy both times. She cares for our dogs like they are her own, she is SUPER responsive to every message, and she is very friendly. We love the daily pictures that we get too! We will continue to use Cindy in the future.”

Dog parents share their Rover experiences - Lewis Park
John and Joanna took very good care of our 7 year old rescue. Alvin has not had a lot of experience with boarding and they made him comfortable within the first day. They were very attentive and sent frequent messages regarding Alvin’s well being. We will definitely bring him back the next time we need to board.

GREAT SITTER AND VERY ATTENTIVE! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ She took excellent care of Atlas! I mentioned that he sometimes accidentally pees on his leg and that, with previous sitters, he has come home with staining on his white fur. Not this time! Atlas came home just as clean and white as he was when I dropped him off! 🥰 It’s the little details like this that show how attentive and caring she is. I truly appreciate the extra care she took with my baby and would absolutely recommend her!

Melissa was great! She paid close attention to our instructions and advice. We were nervous because our dogs had never stayed with a non-family member before, but she took care of them as if they were her own. They obviously were comfortable with her and we would definitely use her again.

Mei was the best! She took good care of our sweet Maltipoo and sent us lots of updates with pics and videos. We dropped off our puppy early in the am and due to our flight being delayed we also picked up a bit later than anticipated but Mei was wonderful and gracious.

Cassidy watched our dog Ranger for a week while we were on an international trip. Ranger deals with some anxiety and reactivity to other dogs, but Cassidy did an amazing job with listening to our concerns and making sure we (and Ranger!) felt comfortable. She provided us photos and updates and that definitely let us relax while we were away from Ranger for the first time in quite a bit. Ranger seemed to love his time with Cassidy and we would definitely rebook again!

Kaitlin and Yung were wonderful and took such good care of our pup Minnie! We were visiting the area from out of town and brought our pup with us, but needed a place for her to stay nearby. They were very communicative and kindly flexible when we had some unforeseen extra traffic on our way in. We’ll definitely book with them next time we’re in the area!

Thank you Jeannette for taking care of Loki! She read my boarding notes carefully and followed all the instructions. Loki was sent there with sudden diarrhea, but Jeannette took great care of him including specific feeding requirements, medication, and even sleeping with him to make sure he’s doing well. She gave us a big relief when we were away.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Lewis Park home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Lewis Park.
<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Lewis Park sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
