About: I have taken care of cats and dogs since I was five. I grew up on a farm and understand the anxiety that a pet owner has when going on vacation and finding someone to love their pet as they love them. Well, have no fear! I am here to save the day! I am a school teacher by day and dog caregiver by night! I am happy to spend all my afternoons with your pupper or kitty cat! School is starting so availability unfortunately has become a bit more limited, but I will do everything to work with you and to care for your dear sweet fur baby regardless! I will travel to your home to ensure that your pet is in a familiar space. I will give them daily snuggles, walks and attention. I will treat your pet as if they were my own loving on them and treating them. I am happy to take them on daily walks, to the park and to stay the night at your place.

Jason did an incredible job taking care of my cat. He went above and beyond by brushing his fur and playing with him. He was very thoughtful and considerate. He sent me updates and even left us a nice Christmas card. Jason is definitely my go to pet sitter from now on.

About: I grew up with dogs, cats, lizards, snakes, and turtles. I also have worked as a ranch hand with large dogs and cattle for six months in Iowa. The dogs I’ve worked with have ranged from 115-pounds and energetic to 10 pounds and quiet. I’ve been dog-walking and dog-sitting on and off for 15 years and love spending time with and caring for them. I’m currently working part time as a professor so have almost unlimited flexibility when it comes to walks and pet-sitting. During the day I may have a class to teach, but these obligations usually only take about an hour. I have plenty of room in the home with the ability to section off smaller rooms and live near a large park where animals with lots of energy can join me for long walks.

About: Since the age of 10 I have been taking care of three cats in total at my parents house! This includes cleaning out the litter box, feeding, and playing/engaging with them all while in a loving and caring environment. Additionally, I have catsat for my neighbors adorable kitty for weeks at a time. My daily visits to her house consisted of me cleaning the litter box and feeding and playing with the kitty. Although my experience with dogs is more limited, I have a true affinity for any and all animals and I feel, along with my work ethic and adeptness, these many years of taking care of cats will translate over to the dog world! I am a full time college student with pockets of free time during most days of the week, primarily in the late afternoon and evening time, and on the weekends throughout the day. I care for pets in a clients home by providing a loving and caring environment for the animal, as well as matching the energy of the pet so their needs care be met. This could include playing with the pet or going on walks when their energy levels are high, or relaxing and enjoying each others company by just chilling on the couch. Additionally, when the animal signals that they need to relieve themselves I am quick to pick up on this and will provide the animal the opportunity to do this, cleaning up after them when they are finished.

About: I have experience caring for both dogs and cats of all sizes, ages, and personalities. Animals have always been a big part of my life, and I genuinely enjoy taking care of and spending time with them. I have experience caring for older dogs who may need extra attention, assistance, or medication. I also have extensive experience with energetic dogs, so I understand the importance of exercise, consistency, and routine in keeping them happy and healthy. As a college student with a flexible schedule, I am able to fit pet care easily into my daily and weekly routine. I have time throughout the day for walks, feeding, playtime, check-ins, and giving pets the attention and care they need. I am organized and dependable, so I can consistently follow routines, medication schedules, and specific care instructions to make sure pets stay comfortable and happy while their owners are away. I always make sure pets feel safe, comfortable, and cared for whether I am in my home or a client’s home. I follow each pet’s normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, litter box cleaning, bathroom breaks, and any medications or special instructions. I make sure pets get plenty of attention, exercise, and companionship while also respecting their individual personalities and comfort levels. In a client’s home, I focus on keeping pets comfortable in their familiar environment and maintaining a clean, calm space. About: I’m a certified animal lover with a fur baby of my own (Henry, 9lb of quiet sweetness) that I’ve been caring for over 10 years. I’m an MFA candidate at the Writers’ Workshop, which allows me to study from home most of the week. If I am busy on a specific day during your booking, I will let you know ahead of time so you can approve or deny the amount of hours I will be gone for that day (which usually ranges from 1-3h workshops). I have experience as a dog owner, but have also spent many of my years dog and cat sitting for my friends and family. I raised and trained my parents puppy, a Bichon Frise Shih Tzu mix who needed lots of care to control his barking and playful nature, now 6 years old and so loving. I’m experience with a range of ages and needs, including puppies and elder animals with special care needs. I love dogs, as you can tell, and have all the time in the world to watch and play with them! I prefer dogs and cats have been handled and are used to being cared for, with no history of lashing out or biting. Whether you need me to cuddle, feed, brush, walk, or play with your pup, I'm your gal. Note: while I take a combo of meds for my dander allergy and have a high tolerance, I ask that any animals/homes with animals with high shedding be appropriately groomed and cleaned before sitting. If I stay in your home, a vacuuming or light cleaning does wonders. If your fur baby is boarded in my home, a bath or deshedding session beforehand is much appreciated. I work from home, so pet care can be a day round activity for me. If I am sitting in your home or doing check ins, I can stay or come by as frequently as needed, given availability based on any events or sessions I have previously booked. I will always communicate with pet parents about the needs for their specific fur baby. I understand all needs are unique, so aside from common sense (walks, feedings, playing), I’ll make sure to tailor their care as needed.

About: I have 12 years of hands-on experience caring for my two dogs, which has helped me develop an understanding of dogs' daily needs and behaviors. I recognize signs of discomfort, stress, and changes in energy, and I adjust to match the dog's personality. In addition to my own dogs, I occasionally watch small and large dogs, as well as cats, giving me more experience in how to care for them. I'm committed to making every pet feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for. As a student, I manage my time carefully to ensure pets get play time, walks, feedings, and companionship. I also have enough time between classes to check in and take them outside throughout the day. I take safety and trust seriously by following care instructions carefully and maintaining a good environment. I make sure pets are supervised, comfortable, and cared for so owners can feel at ease.

About: I love dogs and they love me! I have so much fun expanding my extended family to amazing dogs and their families. I give the same love and care to all dogs that stay in my home, the same that I give to my own dog, Callie. I have a fenced in yard with lots of space for them to stretch their legs and play. Callie is a small dog but gets along with lots of new personalities. Between me, Callie and my almost 13 year old daughter, we love hosting our dog guests and making them feel at home. I have worked my entire professional career in animal care including volunteering, interning, kennel assistant, vet tech, animal trainer and keeper, wildlife rehabilitator, zoological manager and curator, professional animal trainer and director of animal operations. I currently oversee two programs at an animal facility: a bird of prey rehabilitation hospital and an ambassador animal program for conservation education. My schedule is flexible most days, but I do work outside of my home. I may not be a good fit for pet parents that exclusively work from home. I am experienced and comfortable administering medications and caring for elderly pets as well as younger dogs who need their training maintained while mom and dad are away. I open my home to all types of dogs; I'm even-tempered, trustworthy, patient, and caring to all personalities, breeds and ages. I look forward to helping you feel comfortable while you’re away and knowing your dog(s) are receiving the care they deserve. 💕 I work full-time with a fairly flexible schedule. I work inside and outside of the home depending on my meeting schedules. I will always make sure that it’s a good fit for you and your dogs. I provide a safe, comfortable, calm, and happy environment for all dogs that I care for in my home. It makes me happy to see them happy.

Ashley was awesome. She was communicative, punctual and easy to work with. She kept me informed of any incidents that I needed to know. She asked questions and made helpful suggestions. She also helped me navigate the Rover app, as I am new to it. The timing of visits on the last day was a little up in the air and she was flexible and worked with me on a late change. My dogs were happy when I got home, which tells me they were comfortable with her. I’ll use her again and recommend her if you’re looking for a good sitter.

I am very very happy with my experience with Asha. I had a wonderful week long trip planned, but was worried about leaving my dogs at home. Not only did the photos with each drop in assure me that my dogs were doing great - Asha’s reports showed me that she understood my dogs and that they were in good hands. This is important because one of my dogs is very slow to trust people and has caused problems with other sitters (like refusing to come inside at all while I was gone). Asha provided great care and her updates helped me relax and enjoy my trip so much more.

Whether you’re at the office for the day or traveling for a few nights, a pet sitter can offer potty breaks during a Iowa City stroll, cleaning the litter box, or making sure your pet has on-time food or water refills. For daytime services like walking and drop-ins, you can also request sitters to send a report card with every visit.

Tip: You can discuss your specific arrangements with a pet sitter on Rover to what fits you, your pet, and your sitter’s needs. To find what their special skills are, look at the "Skills" and "Pet care experience" sections on their profile.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Iowa City choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

While Rover doesn’t offer traditional subscription services, some sitters offer recurring bookings for services like home visits and dog walking. Recurring services come with their own perks, such as flexibility to modify services (up to five weeks in advance), automatic billing, Rover Card updates, and same-day cancellations.

To find sitters in Iowa City with recurring or weekly availability, select "Repeat Weekly" and which days you’d like them to care for your pet.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Iowa City. On Rover:

  • 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
