“Madison was so great! Very responsive and punctual with our cats schedule. She sent a lot of pictures and kept us up to date on their activity so we had a lot of peace of mind while we were away.”

About: I am a lifelong dog owner and hospital pet therapy volunteer. Through friends and family, I have experience caring for dogs of all sizes, breeds, and ages. I have remained active in retirement by walking my own dog roughly 2-3 miles a day. As a retired elementary teacher I have a very flexible schedule and plenty of free time to devote to your dog. I don't believe in rushing visits or simply stopping by. I enjoy spending meaningful time with each dog to make sure they are happy and comfortable. I am available for home visits and dog walking. I currently own one dog and live in a condo so do not have a fenced in yard. I make sure to walk my dog at least four times a day. She is free to roam the entire house but will put herself in the basement during storms or fireworks.
“Meranda did an awesome job with my cat! She left thoughtful messages every day about how he was doing and what they did together. She gave him lots of attention and even indulged him speaking with her through buttons!”

About: I have had a special connection with animals my whole life! My family would call me "the animal whisperer" because of how much I love and connect with creatures. I grew up with many different kinds of animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, turtles, snails, and frogs. I love to get to know the neighborhood cats and dogs and frequently pet sit for my neighbors in the area and would absolutely love to expand my creature friend circle. It would truly be an honor to get to know and take care of your furry friend. I am currently job searching and am not in school so I have a lot of pet sitting time to offer. Spending quality time with your pet will be my top priority. My home isn't available for pet sitting due to me having two cats who would not enjoy the company of other creatures! I am happy to come to your home to take care of your pet(s). I can do overnights if needed as well.

About: I have been blessed to grow up around all kinds of animals, from dogs and cats to horses. I’ve always loved giving pets the care that they deserve while their parents are away! I am currently on summer break from college and would love to fill my time by taking care of some amazing pups! I have some obligations one weekend a month, but other than that, I am pretty free! I live in a quiet, pet friendly community. Lots of green space and places to walk! Lots of room for activities inside, and a nice big couch for some tired pups! I don’t have any pets that currently live with me, yours will have my undivided attention!
“Haley is a conscientious and kind pet sitter! It gave us great peace of mind to have Haley look in our cats. She She sent lots of updates and photos and was very communicative. And we know our little ones were in great hands!”

“Sarah is amazing! She helped me out last minute and I’m so thankful. She was wonderful with my cat and he loved her, and I really appreciated the updates and photos she shared. I felt confident knowing that she was the one checking in on him while I was away and will definitely ask if she’s available again.”

About: I have taken care of cats and dogs since I was five. I grew up on a farm and understand the anxiety that a pet owner has when going on vacation and finding someone to love their pet as they love them. Well, have no fear! I am here to save the day! It is currently Summer time and so I have a lot of availability to be with your pet. I can stay the night at your home if necessary and can guarantee that your animal will not be a line. They will be lover, fed and cared for! I will travel to your home to ensure that your pet is in a familiar space. I will give them daily snuggles, walks and attention. I will treat your pet as if they were my own loving on them and treating them. I am happy to take them on daily walks, to the park and to stay the night at your place.
About: I’ve taken care of many friends animals. I love sending photos of your animal to you and giving details about the day and their personalities . I tend to love spending time with them and get distracted into the pet trance! I work full time from 8:30 to 4:30ish everyday. Weekends are basically open if needed. I wake up early and go to bed early. Love a schedule with clear details to help my day go smooth! I cannot have animals in my own space sadly. I am happy to bring them in walks or hangout in your space. Your space is sacred and very respected by me.
“Des was wonderful! Even when the garage code wasn't working and the house heating was acting up, she was diligent to keep me informed and resolve issues. She is a 10 out of 10! Our normally distrustful cats warmed up to her and looked forwarded to her visits.”

About: I’ve always had a natural connection with animals and truly love caring for them. Growing up, even before my family adopted our dog Rylee, I would often visit neighbors just to spend time playing with their dogs, and it’s something I’ve always enjoyed and felt drawn to. Once we brought Rylee home, I learned firsthand the importance of patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement when caring for a dog. I also believe verbal communication plays a big role in helping dogs feel comfortable, understood, and loved. Over time, I began dog sitting and walking for neighbors in my community. I’ve provided midday walks, playtime, feeding, and companionship, always making sure each dog feels safe and happy in their routine. As your dog sitter, my goal is to bring that same care, attention, and positivity into your home, so both you and your pet can feel relaxed and confident while you’re away. I’m currently preparing for the DAT this summer before I go back to school at the University of Iowa in the Fall. I plan to dedicate prep time for my early mornings. Therefore, I would be available to drop in for walking or anything else in mid day and evenings I would prefer to be a drop in sitter. I can ensure that I am very comfortable with walking dogs. I have provided care to private residents for dog care and babysitting, and therefore I have a great understanding every family has different needs and I’m more than willing to accommodate with any needs you have:)
“Gina was great with our 2 dogs and she was an excellent communicator. Loved the photos and video. We would definitely recommend her and hope to have her care for our dogs again.”

“We hired Ashley to watch our 2 fur babies, and she was amazing, she send updates and pictures and our pups loved having her care for them and we will for sure will use her again, because we didn’t worry when we were gone at all, Thanks Ashley so much for the awesome care you gave Cooper and Remi,”

“Christian is an incredible sitter. He goes above and beyond to take excellent care of my cat. He is also very responsible and responsive and I always appreciate his flexibility and compassion.”

“Meredith did an outstanding job minding our two cats and she was more than willing to assist with getting mail, light watering of plants/garden, and emptying our dehumidifier while we were on vacation for almost two weeks. Communication (and pictures!) were excellent and I really never worried whether our animals and home were in good hands while we were away. I would not hesitate to use her again in the future.”

About: I’ve been around animals my entire life and currently have a friendly 4-year-old Lab mix named Maverick. I also volunteer with local animal shelters, giving me experience with dogs of different ages, sizes, energy levels, and personalities. As a medical student, I’m used to staying organized, following detailed instructions, and paying close attention to routines and behavior. I understand how important it is to trust the person caring for your pet, and I take that responsibility seriously. Whether your dog needs lots of exercise, extra patience, medication, or just a comfortable place to relax, I’m happy to tailor their care to their individual needs I’m currently a medical student, and much of my coursework can be completed from home. This gives me a flexible schedule and allows me to spend plenty of time with the pets in my care throughout the day. While my schedule varies slightly week to week, I’m generally available for frequent potty breaks, walks, playtime, meals, and plenty of companionship. I make every effort to keep your pet’s routine as consistent as possible while you’re away. For house sitting, I do have one requirement during the school year. I have my own friendly 4-year-old Lab mix, Maverick, who would need to come with me. He’s well socialized and enjoys other dogs, but I completely understand that this isn’t the right fit for every home. If your dog enjoys having a canine companion, I’d love to discuss whether it would be a good match during a meet and greet. Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. I have a fully fenced backyard for safe outdoor play and exercise, and I only board one guest dog at a time so they receive plenty of individual attention. I also have a friendly 4-year-old Lab mix who enjoys other dogs when it’s a good fit. I always take introductions slowly and make sure both dogs are comfortable before allowing interactions. I’m happy to accommodate specific feeding schedules, medications, crate routines, and any other instructions that help your pet feel at home.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Iowa City
Bella was an absolute star in caring for our Frenchie and we will absolutely book her again! She was perfectly punctual every day with great communication. She followed all our directions to a T and took adorable photos. You should definitely use her as she will give your fur baby the best care!

Tallie was so great with my girl kitty. She opened up to Tallie by day 2 and I could tell my cat was looking forward to seeing her again. Tallie is so knowledgeable about cat behaviors and followed all of our instructions precisely. Great communicator, enthusiastic, and gentle. I feel confident leaving my kitty in Tallie’s care while I’m away. I look forward to re-booking with her again!

Meagan has been such a great sitter every single time. I never have any worries leaving my cats when she comes to watch them. She’s been such a joy to have the last few years. Sad I’ll be moving away and unable to have her around to cat sit. I always love the detailed notes and all the pictures. Feels like I’m there with them when she is able to give so much detail paired with the pictures she sends over. If you’ve ever been weary of having someone come into your home to watch your cats, you most definitely do not need to worry. Meagan is great and the cats have really seemed to enjoy

I am very very happy with my experience with Asha. I had a wonderful week long trip planned, but was worried about leaving my dogs at home. Not only did the photos with each drop in assure me that my dogs were doing great - Asha’s reports showed me that she understood my dogs and that they were in good hands. This is important because one of my dogs is very slow to trust people and has caused problems with other sitters (like refusing to come inside at all while I was gone). Asha provided great care and her updates helped me relax and enjoy my trip so much more.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
