“Kelly was wonderful! She was so communicative with us, sending updates and photos, and left everything tidy when upon her departure. We felt very comfortable leaving Moose with Kelly.”

“Salem was once again GREAT with Bodhi. I was having surgery. My husband was with me, and she was taking care of our beloved pooch - even brought in our packages! Bodhi our big "baby" loves her and we are thrilled with her care.”

“Ria was so nice! She took care of my asthma kitty, ensured that she was well cared for. Took care of her litter box, and made sure she was in good spirits while we were away. She also gave us a keychain and some new toys for my moofi. Thank you again :) I would recommend and rebook.”

“I knew that Thomas would be the perfect sitter for our dog, Buddy, as soon as I met him. He's kind and respectful and articulate. He came over a week before our vacation to meet our dog and get the lay of the land. He was right on time for that meeting and right on time the day that we left for vacation. While we were on vacation he sent us photos of Buddy each evening, with a brief update on their day. Our house was spotless when we returned. We will definitely use Thomas again in the future.”

“Claire did a great job caring for our 9-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy while we were out of town for five days. This was our first time leaving him, and she made the experience stress-free with her excellent communication. She sent regular updates and pictures, which gave us great peace of mind. When we returned, our pup was happy and well cared for, and the house was spotless. I would absolutely recommend Claire to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter!”

“Sophia is an excellent pet sitter! She has experience with senior dogs and I could tell when I met her that she would be the perfect sitter and companion for my two pups while we were away — I was not wrong! She followed my care instructions closely and provided consistent updates throughout the stay — I could tell the dogs were comfortable and happy with her from the photos she shared. She also left my house clean and tidy. I would absolutely hire Sophia again — she’s fantastic! Thank you so much, Sophia!”
“Bailey was great! Highly recommend. Super comfortable with dogs and followed all instructions left. Sent tons of photos everyday and always communicated. Very professional and friendly. She stayed in our home while we were away for 3 nights. Could not have asked for a better experience.”

“Emi was lovely to meet, and did a great job taking care of my two dogs. She stayed here during a tropical storm, and handled the situation beautifully. I could see from the photos Emi sent that my babies were happy and well cared for. My dogs and my house looked great when I got home.”

“Savanna stayed in our house for 10 days and took excellent care of Gemma! She followed our instructions perfectly and made sure that Gemma got all of the walks, care, and attention that she needed. We would definitely use her again and appreciate how well she looked after our furry baby!”

“Aspen was incredibly thoughtful with our dog and home! Having someone so conscientious really takes the stress off of going away. She went above and beyond in several ways, and we would highly recommend her to anyone!”

“Gretchen was wonderful with our GSD Roxy. This was our first time with Rover and using a sitter. Gretchen made the process less daunting. She was responsive to texts and meet up. She took the time to get to know Roxy and us and helped us feel better about leaving Roxy and our home in her care. Gretchen kept us updated throughout our trip and met all of our needs - best plus is Roxy adored her which helped us feel comfortable. Would highly recommend Gretchen and hope to use her services again!!!”

“Jen took wonderful care of my pets and my house. Both my dog and cat felt super comfortable with her and she gave them great care. She was super communicative with updates and pics. I will certainly book her again!”

“Kimberly is amazing and has become our go to dog sitter. She has really earned our senior dog’s trust! Good with meds, good with keeping his routine. Upon returning we can tell he misses her. She’s just great! And super professional and comscious!”

“Tram is the perfect pet sitter. We had a destination wedding and have only trusted family & friends to watch our sweet cat. Tram came over to meet our Cosmo and understood his needs (as he has FIC and doesn’t do well when we leave him). I felt so safe and secure having her stay at our apartment overnight. We came back to a sweet note and candle from her as well. Thank you again Tram!!! :)”

About: I've taken care of animals my whole life -- I grew up with 2-4 dogs in the house at any given time, and I've had my own cat Olive for 3 years now. I love to be around animals, and I'm excited to care for yours like they're mine while you're away! I'm prepared to meet your pet's needs where they're at, from providing multiple walks a day, or just being a calm presence in the room to ease loneliness. I'm working part-time at the moment, so I have plenty of time to take care of your pet, especially in the afternoons and evenings. I am also more than happy to accommodate for multiple visits per day. Safety, conscientiousness, and cleanliness are at the center of my pet care ethos. I'm happy to take in mail/packages, water plants, or do any other necessary tasks while you are away as well!

“Alekx has stayed with our puppy twice now and was amazing! Very patient with puppy energy. We also came home to a pup who had been taught a few new skills and Alekx even gave our pup many hand me down toys from her own dog, some of which are our pups new favorites! Our dog hasn’t been alone yet, and Alekx was great about staying with her and even took her out to a park.”

About: I've been a dog lover my whole life. I grew up with dogs and currently share my home with one of my own. Over the years I've cared for friends' and family's dogs while they've traveled, and I've also volunteered as a foster parent for dogs waiting to find their forever homes. That experience taught me how to help dogs feel safe and comfortable in a new environment, whether they're anxious, playful, or somewhere in between. I treat every dog like part of the family, with patience, exercise, and lots of love. I may be new to Rover, but I'm not new to dogs! I work from home, so I have a very flexible schedule and can be around throughout the day for feeding, walks, and playtime. I'm available for drop-ins, walks, and boarding on weekdays and weekends, including evenings if needed. Your dog will be part of the household while in my care. I have one friendly dog of my own who's well socialized and enjoys company, and my two daughters love dogs and are experienced around them, so your pup will get plenty of attention and affection. I keep a close eye on pets at all times and can crate your dog if that's part of their routine.
The median cost per night for house sitting in Chapel Hill is $50

Madeline is awesome! She house sat/watched my dog on a holiday weekend - she is super responsive, sent pictures frequently, and took him on walks in the morning before it got too hot! She even washed the sheets before she left so I didn’t have to do anything when I came home. Would definitely recommend!

Meg did a great job. We had a tree fall on the gate and workshop and she handled it with ease. Our dog,Lula, never eats when we leave but she did for Meg which is a huge compliment to her. Lula was very well cared for, as well as our house. We would highly recommend her and hope to use her again.

Thea took exceptional care of our Doberman, Clyde, while we were away for a long weekend. She kept us updated throughout our trip with multiple daily messages, along with plenty of photos and videos, which gave us great peace of mind. We recently moved and haven't fully unpacked yet, and Thea even went out of her way to buy Clyde some new toys. We truly appreciated her thoughtfulness and the excellent care she provided. We would happily trust her with Clyde again!
Ria was so nice! She took care of my asthma kitty, ensured that she was well cared for. Took care of her litter box, and made sure she was in good spirits while we were away. She also gave us a keychain and some new toys for my moofi. Thank you again :) I would recommend and rebook.

Our two dogs loved Christina and she did a great job with them. Christina stayed in our home to take care of our girls. She was very conscientious and responsive. We had trouble with our flight returning and Christina was a big help. She stayed and fed our girls so we didn’t have to worry about them while we were waylaid by our airline. I would 100% recommended Christina to my friends and family.

Aspen was amazing. We were in from out of town for my son's wedding and our schedule was crazy. Aspen was so accommodating for our frequently changing times of arrival and leaving. The dogs were so comfortable with her. She is kind and smart and just the kind of person you want caring for your loved 4 legged family!!!

Sophia is an excellent pet sitter! Olivia looked after our two 9 months-old kittens for almost 2 weeks while we were traveling. This was our first time leaving the cats for this long, but with Olivia we had a complete peace of mind. She is extremely responsive, considerate and absolutely LOVES animals! Olivia sent us multiple photos a day, putting our minds at ease that their bellies were full and they received lots of pets and cuddles 😁 I really can’t recommend Olivia enough!!

Lauren was absolutely amazing! Throughout the entire process, she was super communicative, thoughtful, and caring towards our boy. He warmed up to Lauren very quickly and we felt very comfortable knowing he was getting attention and care while we were away. I highly recommend Lauren and plan to reach out to her again in the future!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Chapel Hill on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 2,874 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Chapel Hill. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Chapel Hill walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Chapel Hill maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Chapel Hill choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Chapel Hill. On Rover:
- 91% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
