“Meghan has been my dog walker and recently house sat for me while I was away. She is wonderful with my dog and left my place clean & tidy. I know I can trust her and would absolutely recommend her.”

“Salem was once again GREAT with Bodhi. I was having surgery. My husband was with me, and she was taking care of our beloved pooch - even brought in our packages! Bodhi our big "baby" loves her and we are thrilled with her care.”

“Kim was an amazing sitter for our dog, Nugget, and cat, Ollie, this weekend. We would absolutely book with her again! Our pets were very clearly comfortable with her staying with them. She sent pictures and kept us updated while we were away!”

“Kiera was an incredible caretaker for our dog. She texted me with pictures, videos and updates multiple times a day. We came home to a very happy, relaxed dog, a clean house and even some homemade chocolate chip cookies. We will absolutely ask her to care for our dog again and will be recommending her to everyone we know!”

“Kelly stayed at my house with my cat for 10 nights, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better sitter. Super proactive in communication, sent pics and updates daily, left the house in great shape (I really couldn't tell anyone had been here!) and was flexible in the end when my travel plans changed due to weather. Oh, and I could tell she genuinely enjoyed hanging out with my cat, which makes it all the better. Hope to be able to hire her for future needs!”

“Meredith took amazing care of our home, cat, and chickens and ducks! She was proactive and resolved issues that came up when baby chicks were escaping from their coop. She sent us photos everyday and gave a detailed daily update so we knew how everything was going. We came home to a spotless house and very happy animals!”

“Alina did a great job dog sitting for Hatley over a long weekend. He seemed to really enjoy her company, was well cared for, and Alina left the place in great shape. Thanks, Alina!”

“Our pup is not usually 'open to new relationships' but she quickly warmed up to Claire. The weather posed significant challenges during Claire's stay but she managed everything with aplomb. Great job!”

“Victoria was awesome!! She house sat and watched our 2 little sr dogs, and the whole time was so communicative and caring! She sent lots of pics & updates so we had peace of mind our whole trip. The pups were so happy and well looked after. We have already rebooked!”

About: Hi! I’m a lifelong animal lover who would so excited to meet your furry family members! I have been pet sitting and dog walking since I was ten years old and caring for animals has always been something I genuinely enjoy. I am also a proud dog and cat mom, so I know firsthand how much our pets mean to us and how important it is to have someone you can trust to care for them while you are away. During my undergraduate years at Tulane University, I volunteered at an animal shelter in New Orleans, where I helped walk and care for shelter dogs. I also had the opportunity to work with service animals through my university, which gave me additional experience understanding the importance of patience, consistency, responsibility, and following each animal’s individual needs and routines. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at UNC-Chapel Hill. I’m responsible, dependable, patient, and compassionate, and pet sitting is something I genuinely enjoy doing outside of school. Whether your dog needs a good walk and some zoomies, your cat wants some attention (or prefers to pretend I don’t exist!), or your pet simply needs someone to stop by and keep them company, I’m happy to help! 🐾 What I can help with: - Dog walking & exercise -Cat & dog check-ins - Feeding & fresh water -Playtime & cuddles - Cleaning up after pets - Medication assistance when needed 📸 Photos & updates so you know your pet is happy and doing well I’ll always take the time to learn your pet’s routine, personality, and preferences. My goal is for your pet to feel safe, comfortable, loved, and cared for while you’re away. I’d love to meet you and your furry friend! I have a flexible schedule and am happy to work with your pet’s needs! I’m available for check-ins and visits anytime on weekends. During the week, I am completely available on Fridays and can usually accommodate morning and evening check-ins Monday–Friday, with the exception of Wednesdays, when my availability is more limited. I’m happy to coordinate a schedule that works best for you and your pet’s routine! 🐶🐱 I believe pets are happiest and most comfortable in their own familiar environment, which is why I provide in home check-ins and care at your pet’s home. I will always respect your space, follow your instructions carefully, and make sure your pet’s routine stays as consistent as possible while you’re away. Your pet’s safety and well-being are my top priorities. I take the time to learn your pet’s personality, habits, and needs so I can provide thoughtful, attentive care. I’m comfortable following specific feeding schedules, exercise routines, and care instructions to help your pet feel safe and relaxed. As a lifelong pet owner and experienced pet sitter, I understand how important it is to trust someone with your furry family member and your home. I’ll provide updates and photos during visits so you can have peace of mind knowing your pet is happy and cared for. I do not offer boarding in my own home, but I’m happy to provide reliable, loving care where your pet feels most comfortable—at home.

About: I have been around and grown up with all different animals my whole life! Even though I have been taking care of animals my whole life, I started overnight stays 5 years ago during my freshman year of college. I am comfortable with animals of all kinds and will do whatever they need to feel comfortable. I have experience giving different medications and following specific routines. I have two crazy German shorthaired pointers back at home and they are super high maintenance so I am used to it all! I completely understand that animals are family members and I am sure to do whatever possible to treat them the same way you would to be sure both them and you can stay stress free! I am currently a physical therapy student at UNC, so I do have classes during the day. However, if possible I will be sure to stop by in between classes and spend the rest of my free time with the animals. My best availability is from Friday night through Sunday night, but can still be there throughout the week just with less total hours spent at the house. I will be sure to follow whatever routine your animal and you are most comfortable with! Whatever is needed I can get done. I also keep things clean and will be sure to leave your house cleaner than when you left it!
About: I have experience training my crazy puppy into a certified therapy dog. I will be as strict or relaxed as you want me to be with your dogs. I know that having their normal schedule and structure is important along with lots of love. I will have plenty of time to work with your dogs. I love taking dogs on walks or lounging on the couch with them. I can be present for your dogs! I will insure they have plenty of time to exercise. I love taking dogs on walks. I love going to the park too. My home is safe for dogs and I will respect your house and make sure the dog has a good time when you are away.
“Ria is such a sweet soul. Felt completely safe with her in our home and taking care of our big baby. He was the same haply dog as when we left and that's really all we can ask of anyone. We will be sure to contact Ria first if we need someone again!”
“A++++! Perfect house and dog sitter for a long weekend. Great communicator! We always knew how things were going while we were out of the country. Went above and beyond to get comfortable with our dog and make our dog comfortable.”

About: I've grown up around animals for most of my life and have experience caring for both big dogs, small dogs, and cats. I grew up with 3 beagles, and have also helped neighbors, friends, and family care for their pets over the years. This has given me experience with pets of all ages, personalities, and needs. I'm comfortable caring for dogs with medical needs and administering medications when necessary. I currently have a very flexible schedule that allows me to provide your pets with the attention and care they deserve. I will be at your home for the majority of the time, only popping out occasionally to grab food or run quick errands. I can easily adjust my day as needed for walks, potty breaks, feedings, playtime, and medication schedules. When I stay in your home my biggest priority is ensuring that your pets feel safe, calm, and comfortable while in my care. I pay close attention to each pet's normal routine, energy level, and feeding schedule, as well as any special instructions so they can stay as stress free as possible. I'm experienced with walks (both fast paced and slow), potty breaks, playtime, crating if needed, and giving pets space when they need it. Expect regular updates and photos from me, so you're never out of the loop!
“Kelsey was a delightful house sitter for my cats and dog. They seemed to delight in each other. She was very communicative and respectful of my home and asked questions when necessary. She had a handful with my crew and handled it all very well. Would recommend and use her again.”

“Sophia is an excellent pet sitter! She has experience with senior dogs and I could tell when I met her that she would be the perfect sitter and companion for my two pups while we were away — I was not wrong! She followed my care instructions closely and provided consistent updates throughout the stay — I could tell the dogs were comfortable and happy with her from the photos she shared. She also left my house clean and tidy. I would absolutely hire Sophia again — she’s fantastic! Thank you so much, Sophia!”
About: I have taken care of animals for as long as I can remember. I have experience taking care of many different ages of cats and dogs. I have taken care of horses for several years and even have experience taking care of rabbits. I also fostered dogs from my local shelter which gave me experience with a wide range of behavioral concerns in dogs. When I come to take care of your pet, I would love to learn how to best care for them. Whether that is relaxing on the couch or running outside with them, I can adapt to your pet's individual care needs. I currently work from home which allows me to have a large range of availability. I am available for multi day house sitting or dog walking. I am very flexible to what is needed for your pet. I am also flexible and can accept last minute bookings! Unfortunately, I cannot board because I am not able to board pets at my apartment. But I would love to take care of your critters at your own home. When at your home, I would love to take care of your critters in the best way possible for their needs and wants. We can chill out at home, go to the dog park, walk around the yard, or anything else your dog likes and makes them the most comfortable while you are away!

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - The Downs
Victoria was great with our dogs again! She’s very communicative of all updates and she had her eye out for any signals of stress from the dogs (which we thought there may be some). She sends really cute photos and is very detailed with her messages. Even our little grumpy dog warmed up to her, photos had him looking lovingly right at Victoria! We will definitely book again, and recommend to anyone looking for dog or cat care!

We loved having Katelyn stay with our pup, Rory, while we were away! She was very reliable, communicative, and friendly! Rory absolutely loved her. She kept us informed throughout her stay with great updates and pictures. She also left our home cleaner than she found it! We would love to have her watch Rory again!

This is our second time having Tiffany watch our dogs, and we have had a great experience both times. She is understanding of our more spicy and skittish pups, and regularly provides us updates throughout her house sitting. I highly recommend her dog sitting for others!

Julia was amazing with my highly anxious dogs! She really knows how to interact with dogs to put them at ease. She took care of my two dogs and three cats, all of whom need medications. My animals clearly enjoyed their time with her and I would happily hire her again.

Karyn and my dog, Moses did really well together. Karyn is such a relaxed pet sitter and Moses did not appear to have any problems relating to Karyn. When we had a "meet and greet" before Karyn actually came to care for Moses, she brought her dog, Sadie. I was so glad, because the day after my husband passed, we had to have our 14 yr. old retriever put down. I could tell Moses has missed our 2 "loves". Anyway, Sadie and Moses got along and I think it was an added treat for Moses.
Maureen just took care of my only “child” (10 y.o. mixed hound) for a week. She sent photos and took great care of my girl, and left my home spotless! It is such a relief to now have someone so responsible and caring to look after my dog if I want to travel. Thank you Maureen!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in The Downs on Rover is $49.95 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 3,015 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across The Downs. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred The Downs walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in The Downs maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in The Downs choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in The Downs. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
