“Brianna is great! This was our first time using Rover and we were a little worried about leaving our cat with someone new. Brianna was great at communication and was so patient with all our follow ups and questions that we had along the way! 10/10 would recommend”

“Allyson was a wonderful caregiver for my Sunny boy. She sent pictures every day and seemed to capture every mood of his. She is a polite young woman who cares about animals and it shows. My Sunny warmed up to her and let her pet him. I would recommend Allyson if you’re looking for someone to take care of your fur babies while you’re away. I have complete confidence in her and would use her again. 😽👍👍”

“She did great! Came during a very busy weekend and helped me a lot! Was very patient with my dog and gave her lots of love when we were busy with family. Appreciate her so much definitely book her!!”

“Brooke was so great to work with. She was able to help in super short notice, and went above and beyond to make Moey feel comfortable. Will definitely be reaching out to her in the future.”

“Izabelle was wonderful! She came over before to meet my girls. They loved her! She sent me photos of them and they appeared to be enjoying themselves. I would hire Belle again for sure!”

“Kevin has been helping us with my aunt's cat who needs daily medication. He is professional, friendly, quick to respond, and most importantly, Cleo is getting her pills. He also sends us a photo of her after each visit which we find funny (she doesn't look too happy after being pilled but she does have a lot of attitude!) and also comforting to know she is being taken care of by someone who knows what he is doing and enjoys it.”
“Alex is wonderful! She makes it poss for us to leave home without worry. Simon our cat loves her and all is well at home while we are away. Completely reliable and communicates well!”

About: I’ve been taking care of pets my whole life - my own growing up on the family farm, as well as for family, friends and neighbors. I’m currently working full-time during the week but have a flexible schedule that allows for regular drop in visits. Boarding services available on weekends and weekdays after 3 pm. I have a very friendly, large dog and we enjoy taking multiple walks every day and playing in the yard (not fenced in). I can easily adapt to your pet’s needs and schedule as well.
About: hoping to go to college for veterinarian schooling. love dogs of all breeds and have never let a breed stop me from loving an animal. i have a leopard gecko, a kitten and a Havanese. currently out of school and i would love to spend more time with fluffy friends during my free time. walks are part of my daily routine. i have a fenced-in yard and a friendly havanese, he is slightly territorial but would never hurt another animal. lots of toys and treats in my home for dogs.
“Kjersten is amazing! She was able to take my last minute booking and fed both my cat and dog. She made sure that Apollo got his medicine and took him for a nice long walk. We ended up needing to extend our trip a little and she was able to accept another last minute booking to come feed and let out Apollo. She went above and beyond by stopping by again and taking Apollo for another hour long walk.”

“Had a wonderful experience with Karen! Punctual, thorough, and great to work with. She also managed to make friends with my very shy, anxious cat over the course of three drop in visits!”

“Emily did a wonderful job with our 2 cats. They are both scared of people and always hide the whole time we have visitors (even my cat loving family members) but they seemed willing to give Emily a chance right from the beginning. By day 4 they seemed to be crazy about her. Highly recommend!”

“Debora was fantastic with our pups! She visited us beforehand to get to know us, our pups, and iron out any details. Gus and Rue loved having someone to play with while we were gone all day! Thanks Debora!”
About: I have always loved animals and caring for them. I grew up taking care of mostly dogs, but I have experience with other animals like cats, goats, guinea pigs, and hamsters. I love meeting new animals and helping care for them. I am currently a student at Iowa state but am available all day Tuesdays and Thursdays and weekends. I’m available in the afternoon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I cannot provide boarding because of the pets I have at home, but I can visit pets or stay overnight with them at their homes. I’ve stayed in ankeny overnight a few times but prefer to stay in Ames due to my classes being in the morning.
“Libby responded to my request quickly and was very accomodating with a last minute booking. When meeting with her, I was impressed with her cheerful & confident manner. She was comfortable giving my cat her medications and was happy to give me updates and pictures with each visit. I would definitely trust her in my home to care for Alice again!”

Kevin did a fantastic job watching over our cat Bruce! He played with him and hung out with him while my partner and I were out of town and I could tell Bruce had a great time when we got back! He sent lots of goofy photos and gave us a nice update after each check in!

This was the first time I hired a sitter for my feline companion, Abby. Brianna fulfilled all my expectations for a sitter. She was considerate, caring and professional. I came home and found Abby settled and calm. Thank you, Brianna. Much gratitude from myself and Abby.

Cat sitters on Rover care for your cats’ needs and can spend quality time with them, including activities like feeding, playing, and refreshing their water and litter boxes. Depending on your arrangement, you can schedule as many visits per day as your cat needs or find a sitter who can stay at your house overnight. Some sitters also board cats in their home.
House sitting can be ideal for cats who need socialization or care that lasts longer than a few hours. Your cat stays in their own home, on their own schedule, with care based on what you and your sitter agree on together.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Ames. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 94% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
