“We had a wonderful experience with Brianna! She kept us consistently updated with messages and photos, which gave us real peace of mind while we were away. What really stood out was her attentiveness and compassion, especially when Mochi was a little sick. She went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable and kept us informed. We're super grateful and we would absolutely trust her with Mochi again. Highly recommend!”

“Another great time for our pups with Jessica, this time for over a week. The house was spotless when we returned to happy dogs. And we appreciate the pictures when we are traveling, highly recommend!”

“We couldn't have asked for a better pet sitter! Our dog was hospitalized for pneumonia the week before our trip, which made us quite nervous about leaving on a long vacation. Fortunately, Hailey made us feel completely comfortable before we left - she was confident she could care for our sick pup and it showed. Hailey seamlessly handled our dog's complicated medication schedule and provided tons of extra cuddles to help with her recovery. We were able to enjoy our trip stress-free because we knew our dog was in such capable, loving hands. Throughout our time away, Hailey kept us well-updated on our pup's recovery and sent lots of pictures of our pets cuddled up with her. These photos were everything - they showed us that our fur babies were not just being cared for, but were genuinely happy and comfortable. We had booked Hailey before for a shorter trip and were thrilled we chose her again for this longer stay. She's reliable, trustworthy, and genuinely loves our pets like her own. The peace of mind she provides is invaluable, especially when dealing with a pet's medical needs. We will definitely reach out to Hailey in the future!”

“Allyson was professional, respectful, and communicative. She took great care of our pets and our home. She asked questions when things came up we hadn't discussed. We will absolutely be reaching out to rebook next time we need a sitter!”

“Ashlee did a wonderful job house sitting for us for a weekend! Our dogs were well taken care of, she sent us photo/video updates, and kept our home very neat and tidy. We couldn't ask for anything more!”

“Izabelle was great with our dogs. We had her stay with our two younger dogs who need to be watched while out otherwise they destroy things and came home to nothing destroyed and the dogs seemed very happy. Will definitely use her again!”

“Alisha took great care of our home and our two pups! They warmed up to her immediately and she sent plenty of photos and updates. Looking forward to having Alisha sit again and would recommend her to anyone.”

“Quinn was absolutely amazing with our pups! We had a last minute trip that required someone to stay with our dogs at our house for 7 days and Quinn went over and beyond. She took our dogs to the apartment dog park daily and played with them for hours. Would recommend Quinn to anyone needing a loyal pet sitter who will treat your animals like her own. When we returned she washed all the bed sheets and tidy up the house so we returned to a clean home.”

“Katherine was incredibly accommodating and was very thorough to make sure she was giving Caesar the best care. She even stayed additional time to make sure Caesar had company. 100% would book again and highly recommend!”

About: From keeping care of my family pets in the absence of my parents at a young age to spending late nights as a sitter for neighbors’ dogs, I have taken careful care of dogs in all shapes and sizes since I was twelve. I love snuggling and bonding with dogs, and I adore being there for them when their furball parents are unable to be with them. I’m a part-time worker at a hotel on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. I work the evening shifts from 3-11pm. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, I’m available to spend time with your pups all day! I love walking, and I would love to take your dog on my daily five mile walk with me as a fluffy partner in crime. I strive to create a friendly and loving environment for the doggies I watch. By providing them with quality time such as walking, playing with toys, or simply lying on the couch together, I will give your pup a space of peace and care while you’re away.

About: Responsible college student and animal lover providing reliable pet care. I offer attentive supervision, playtime, cuddles, routine care, regular owner updates. Continuing my 4th year I have a lot of time for pet care plus a roommate so your pet will never be alone! I make animals a #1 priority! I provide safe, attentive care by following each pet’s routine, including feeding, walks, playtime, bathroom breaks, and lots of affection. I keep pets comfortable, supervised, and update owners regularly.
About: Animals have been an important part of my life since I was very young, and I have always felt a deep appreciation for their companionship. I truly enjoy caring for them. I have experience with pet walking and daily pet care, and I also have veterinary experience from my technical training in animal science in high school and my work as a veterinary assistant. I have also cared for pets belonging to family members, friends, colleagues, and neighbors in the different countries where I have lived, including Mexico, Spain, and the United States. This background helps me provide attentive and responsible care, always prioritizing the health, safety, and well-being of every pet. I am currently pursuing my PhD at Iowa State University, so I’m generally available on weekends and on Mondays and Fridays after 4 PM. If you need care outside these hours, you’re welcome to ask—I’m always happy to check my schedule and see if I can accommodate when possible. I am very attentive when caring for each pet and always adapt to their individual needs and personalities. I base my care on the information provided by their owners as well as my own observation. I have the patience and dedication to provide personalized attention, whether that means long walks, playtime, or respecting the space of pets who may be more shy. My goal is always to make them feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for.
About: I have taken care of animals, in and outside of vet clinics, since I was 14 years old. I’ve cared for a variety of animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, chickens, and sheep. I’ve had many housesitting experiences outside of Rover and I’ve handled many responsibilities like monitoring and administering medications. My main goal is to keep the owner’s pets stress free and allow owners to leave their pets knowing they are being cared for. I am an Iowa state student. I have many days where I’m free or breaks in my schedule to allow me to check on animals or take them on walks. In the clients home I follow whatever works best for the owner and their pet. If that means crating when being left alone that is what I do. If that means taking them on walks at a certain time or not allowing them in certain rooms or on furniture I make sure to always follow the rules set by the owner.
“MEGAN did a great job with our doggo. She kept in communication when she had questions and shared some fun photos of her time with our doggo. We came home to a happy and relaxed pup! Would recommend her to anyone looking for detailed oriented dogsitter and caring for your pet like it's her own.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Ames
Hailey was great !! She is very caring and is a great communicator. Charlie usually gets anxiety when we leave but he did really well with Hailey. She made him feel very comfortable. I would highly recommend Hailey if anyone is considering her for a pet caretaker. Thank You Hailey from Charlie and his family!!
Jessica was great with our dogs!! She sent pictures and updates. Was very respectful of everything we asked her to do. We will definitely request her to house and pet sit again! Our dogs were so happy! They were well taken care of and our minds were at ease to know they were in such good hands. 😊

Amiree was an amazing pet sitter for two weeks at our home. Our dog is a bit neurotic (and probably was a bit more than she bargained for) but Amiree was kind and understanding, and tried to keep her routine as close as normal - despite thunderstorms making everything infinitely more difficult. She gave twice daily updates with pictures and left our home exactly as she found it. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an overnight pet sitter.

Erin was amazing and went above and beyond for our dog! We knew he was well cared for and was getting all the cuddles while we were gone. She even helped clean up some storm debris and other house chores we didn’t even ask her to. We will definitely be using her again!!

Trinity did an amazing job pet sitting! She was very responsive and quick to communicate, which gave me a lot of peace of mind. I really appreciated the regular picture updates—it was so nice to see my pet happy and well cared for while I was away. I would definitely trust her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring pet sitter.

Breanna took amazing care of our dogs! We have a wild puppy and a geriatric dog who is almost blind and requires meds and eye drops twice/day. Breanna was very patient, compassionate, and she understood the unique needs of both dogs. She even taught our puppy new tricks and provided lots of snuggle time. We received frequent updates and pictures of the dogs and their activities. We highly recommend Breanna!

We are beyond grateful for Olivia! She took such amazing care of our cat, Mochi, and truly went above and beyond. Her communication was wonderful, she sent frequent photo updates that made us smile every time, and it was so reassuring to see how happy and relaxed Mochi looked with her. When a snowstorm hit, Olivia even stayed overnight to make sure he was safe and could be fed! We felt completely at ease on our trip knowing Mochi was in such loving, capable hands. Olivia is the best, and we cannot recommend her enough, 10/10! We will absolutely be booking with her again :)

Erin was amazing! She was super easy to communicate with, followed all our rules, and took such great care of Mochi. She sent tons of updates and pictures, which made us feel so at ease while we were away. The best part was that she spent lots of time hanging out with him, Mochi absolutely loved it! He can be a little shy with new people, but he warmed up to Erin right away and cuddled on her lap. We couldn't be happier. 10/10 will definitely book again!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ames walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ames maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ames choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
