“Jordana did a fantastic job with all of my pets. She went above and beyond to make sure she knew their needs. I have two older pets with medical issues and a crazy puppy; she managed them all like a super star.”

“Lori was excellent to work with! During the meet and greet she was very patient with our dogs, and with us, as we covered the things we thought she needed to know while our dogs warmed up to a new person in the house. By the end of the meet and greet, all three dogs were wagging tails and happy! Lori arrived a little early the day we left and departed right on time the day we returned which told us she follows the times indicated on request, not her own schedule. She sent pictures of our fur babies throughout our absence which made us smile! Lori was very respectful and professional and we would love to have her watch our pups again!”

“We really love Jessica and she takes good care of our fur babies! We have a 7 year old foxhound a 7 month old new lab/beagle mix puppy at our house and she took on both last week, and they just loved having her here! She always sends us updates and photos and I feel very at ease when we are out of town and she is here. Highly recommend.”

“This is the second time we have used Jenna and she did another fabulous job! Our dogs are always happy when we come home. She treats them as if they were her own! Will continue to book in the future!”

“Abby was great watching our Harper while we worked at the Iowa State Fair for 11 days. We knew she would not be lonely and would be loved. I received pictures daily. Harper loves her Abby.”

“My rather large and silly 5 month old sheepadoodle puppy jumped in her lap when she noticed Nadine. She has never done that with any other person. So this is now the second person from rover.com that has been absolutely excellent with my dog and her quirky personality and sometimes odd behaviors. I am so pleased to have found another person to sit with my sweet dog.”

“Isabella was fantastic with my boys! From the moment she arrived, it was clear that she genuinely loves dogs. She communicated with me regularly, providing updates and making sure I felt at ease while I was away. I was especially grateful when she stepped in at the last minute to administer eye drops to one of my boys….her willingness to go the extra mile was truly impressive. I came home to happy, well-cared-for dogs, and I couldn't be more pleased. I highly recommend Isabella for any pet sitting needs!”

“I can’t say enough about Allison. She is personable, timely, responsible, a great communicator, clean and dependable. Allison took great care of our 2 small dogs, took care of our plants and our house was in tip top condition when we came home. She went above and beyond. Highly recommend her!”

“Yasmin went above and beyond and took my kitten Sir Snuggles to the vet when he was not feeling well (with my approval) when I was on travel abroad. She even got the vet on the phone at the appointment to talk to me. She was fantastic - and Snuggs is all better now thanks to her help.”

“Sophia took excellent care of Tiffany while I was out of town for a few days. I keep rebooking her because when I come home, Tiffany is happy and stress free. Sophia follows the instructions I leave for Tiffany’s medicine and routine perfectly and I know I can trust her with Tiffany and my home.”

“Sarah did a great job with our boys. She contacted us if there was a question and was very responsive. The house was left in great condition as well. She also sent photos. Will use her again.”

“Christina did a fantastic job watching the house and dogs! The dogs were well taken care of, all the instructions were followed, and she was very conscientious with respect to watching the house. Highly recommend!”

About: Growing up, my family didn’t have pets, so I love my friends and family’s pets like they are my own! I am intentional and ask questions when learning from owners how to best interact with their pet(s). I’ve taken care of both dogs and cats, up to two of each at the same time. I prioritize playtime and being active with any pet I’m responsible for. I’m comfortable with both cats and dogs, and can adapt my skills and schedule based on their unique needs. My schedule is extremely flexible as I continue the job search post graduate school. I am able to support pet owners with short-term drop ins, frequent walks for high energy pets, and extended stays. I am available to care for pets in their own home. I aim to ease any stress by keeping their environment familiar and maintaining their usual schedule as much as possible.
About: You can have peace of mind knowing your cat or dog is safe and well taken care of while you're away. I believe that well-socialized and exercised dogs are the happiest dogs. I have been around dogs and cats my entire life, and love taking care of them to get to know each one on an individual level. I currently have a ten year old 90-pound and five year old 45-pound mixed breed dogs whom I exercise and love daily. I consistently socialize them in order to reinforce good dog behavior, and I hope to do the same with your pup. Over the years I have dog-sat for many friends and loved every minute of it. I adhere to all owner's rules regarding feeding, medication, and other house rules. I am available weekdays and weekends. I currently work during the day, so mornings, evenings, and weekends are generally times when I am most readily available to care for your pet. Currently I do not have the space in my own home to care for other pets, however I am of the belief that a pet thrives better in a familiar environment. I follow all client's instructions in how to best care for their cat or dog.
“Katherine did a great job watching all of our animals. She was able to handle multiple days and nights with multiple pets and could handle complex instructions and gave them the best care. Would definately use again”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - West Des Moines
Jessica was so great to work with. She was communicative, sent daily pics and updates of my dog, and my dog absolutely loved her. In addition, when she had a long shift at work, she had her boyfriend hang out with Rory so she wouldn't be locked up all day (we agreed on this before even booking.) Will absolutely book again!

I was truly impressed by how our 1yr old mini dachshund who hasn't been around strangers a lot actually warmed up to her in the span of 7 hours. We didn't have much instructions to leave as Carl doesn't really require much effort to care for. Our only concern was that Carl might be anxious the whole time and may not try to socialize. She walked him around the neighborhood multiple times and reassured that she's chill. Towards the end, he ended up being cuddly and even slept laying down on her lap. It was so cute. We were so proud of Carl. All thanks to Shannon! <3

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in West Des Moines on Rover is $46.62 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 637 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across West Des Moines. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred West Des Moines walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in West Des Moines maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in West Des Moines choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in West Des Moines. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 94% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
