Rachel provided care for our two dogs in our home for 3 days and 2 nights. She went above and beyond to befriend and bond with our shy pups. Rachel was a considerate and responsible houseguest as well. We highly recommend her and will definitely ask for her the next time we need a sitter for our dogs. -Nancy V

Jenna was such a wonderful sitter for our 2 dogs for a 3 day vacation. House was very clean and she took out the trash and stripped the beds, even though we didn’t tell her to do so. The dogs were so comfortable with her and it was like we weren’t even gone! We will definitely be booking again in the future!!

About: Ive dog sit for friends and family at their home. Taking care of them in their own personal environment. Clients home care would to be following their rules/routines for their pet. Rather that be a walk or playing with their toys, feeding schedule..etc. ive sat older dogs, younger dogs and even taken a blind pup out for a day from the shelter! I work a full time job but i am able to leave once or twice during my shift to take care of the animals in your home! I will stop by and let them outside and play with them for a bit during my shift. I would stop by before my shift and immediately after, i always make sure they have enough time to play and go to the bathroom before i leave. I have dogs at home that arent dog friendly so i do have experience with reactive dogs! I cant keep other pets in my own home while you are not home but i am more than happy to hangout at your home and care for them!

Katlin was so considerate with us and our two doggies. She house sat for us while we were out of town. We've got a puppy, Peach and a 5 year old, Zelda. Peach is definitely a handful and Zelda requires meds daily. Katlin did a fantastic job of handling everything they threw at her. Peach ended up having stomach problems and Katlin took care of everything beautifully. We came home and the house was absolutely spotless and I know our dogs can make quite the mess. To top it all off, our construction contractor decided last minute that they were going to start on the exterior of our house and Katlin was extremely accommodating even though there was a dump trailer in the driveway and I'm sure lots of noise the last few days of her stay. I would definitely recommend Katlin to anyone, your doggies will without a doubt be well taken care of and your house will look like nobody had been there.

About: I was raised volunteering at a local animal shelter. I have experience with both small and large breeds of dogs. I have a teacup Chihuahua and a black cat of my own that I am here for, walk, and groom. I am able to work with any breed. I love cats as well and will gladly provide care for them too. I am looking for regular daily drop in care for either cats or dogs. I am willing to provide walking services as well. I am free from early morning to early afternoon. I currently work second shift from 3:30 to 10 PM as a Security garden Sunday through Friday. I understand the privacy of your home and will respect that. I believe, compassionate and empathy is very important and I hope to gain the trust and love of your furry family. I am clean and organized and will respect your living space. I have no criminal record and I have good references.

About: At the age 16 I got my first job at a doggie daycare connected to a vet clinic. At the location I was apart of the doggie day care as well as their boarding services. After just over a year at that location, I decided to move on a different doggie day care and stayed there for 6 months doing about the same thing. I am currently a senior studying at Iowa state university. I am majoring in animal ecology. I have a fairly relaxed schedule and try to fit walks/visits in where I can! I have dog sat for plenty of my family friends and listen very well to instructions. I know how important a schedule and structure can be for an animal so I do my best to make sure things are just like they are when the parents are home.

About: I currently work as a kennel attendant for an animal hospital and have been in the pet care field for about 3 years. In the time I’ve been in pet care I have learned to do nails and baths ( including sanitary trim ). I’m currently working part time and I am hoping to spend my spare time taking care of your babies and getting to know them all!! I have a friendly puppy. She loves other dogs but is scared of people. I love to take my dogs for a walk until she’s ready for a nap. I also love to snuggle and play with my fur babies.

This was my first time with Molly watching the boys. She was awesome! She sent so many pictures and videos which was great, I could tell that they were comfortable with her. She even let them sleep with her and hog the bed! I had several issues with my flights and she was more than willing to be on standby if I didn’t make it home on time. I’ll definitely use Molly again in the future 🌟

Angela did such a great job watching my three pups over the Fourth of July weekend! My weimareiner has anxiety, and Angela pulled out all the tricks to keep her calm with picture updates. She was also kind enough to bring our packages in, (they weren’t small..) and she cleaned up the house before our arrival back. Her attention to detail in the home, communication skills, and seeing how my three pups warmed up to her are all the reasons we would recommend her to anyone else. We will definitely be booking with Angela in the future!

FAQs for House Sitting - Urbandale

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Urbandale on Rover is $38.85 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 605 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Urbandale. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Urbandale walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Urbandale maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Urbandale choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Urbandale. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 92% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
