“Lori took very good care of our 2 very different dogs. One has anxiety issues and one is so little and hates being alone. We had to be away for 8 days, and since this was our 1st time using this service we were a bit nervous...but it all turned out fantastic and I feel so much better about leaving my girls. I will be using Lori again and highly recommend her to care for your 4 legged fur babies.”

“Jessica was great! We were out of town 4 nights, and then our flight got delayed and she was able to adjust her schedule to stay a 5th night to take care of our dog. She sent photos and updates at least twice a day and I felt better knowing I had someone here at our house to care for our dog (instead of boarding him). Our dog has some anxiety and allergy issues and she took care of all his meds and gave him lots of love and cuddles. She also washed all the bedding, towels and took the trash out (which she didn't need to do but did it anyhow). Highly recommend! Thanks again, Jessica.”

“Jen was a wonderful dog sitter for our dog Rafiki! She has excellent communication, kept us updated frequently, and genuinely enjoyed her time with our special little guy! We found out Rafiki had an ear infection right before we left and Jen was so gracious as to administer his medicine. We will definitely be working with Jen in the future!!”

About: At the age 16 I got my first job at a doggie daycare connected to a vet clinic. At the location I was apart of the doggie day care as well as their boarding services. After just over a year at that location, I decided to move on a different doggie day care and stayed there for 6 months doing about the same thing. I am currently a senior studying at Iowa state university. I am majoring in animal ecology. I have a fairly relaxed schedule and try to fit walks/visits in where I can! I have dog sat for plenty of my family friends and listen very well to instructions. I know how important a schedule and structure can be for an animal so I do my best to make sure things are just like they are when the parents are home.

About: I love dogs and have one myself! I have been caring for dogs for 10+ years and am willing to accommodate any special requests. I understand the importance of maintaining a structured lifestyle for dogs and keeping them on a schedule/routine. I am willing to care for your pets in your home or mine. Let me know how I can help you and your family today! I look forward to meeting you and your pups.
About: I have been a vet tech for 4 years and have had animals all my life, dogs, cats, horses, and pocket pets. Love them all. I work full time, but have longer lunch breaks so can usually make mid day, can have busy weekends but make time work as needed. I have a dog and two cats myself. I love to focus on play and cuddle equally. If a pet ever needs to come to me, I have a separate guest room just for them!
“Melissa was awesome during her stay with my goldendoodle for the week. She sent pictures and videos, took him for walks, had a few play dates with other pups, and took great care of our home. I would recommend her to others, and I have already rebooked!”

“Allison is a pro. She was fantastic with communication and was very detail-oriented. We have a 10-page manual about our dogs/house, and she read the whole thing and even asked about a discrepancy she noticed! She showed up when she said she would, on time, and she did a great job getting our persnickety dogs to take their meds. The house was well in order when we got home, which is so nice and not always the case with other sitters. She sent pics and updates consistently too, which was much appreciated!”

“Meg took wonderful care of our doggies this weekend! She sent us photos, videos and text message updates of our pups. When we arrived home the dogs were relaxed and happy and our house was neat and tidy. Thanks Meg!”

“Mackenzie and Anthony were great! We got lots of photos and videos of the pups having a blast and we returned home to three very tired and happy pups! Thanks, again!”

About: Animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I helped care for injured and orphaned wildlife including deer, raccoons, owls, and other wild animals, giving me a deep appreciation for treating every animal with patience and kindness. As an adult, I've shared my home with both cats and dogs and volunteered with the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Today, I have two beloved indoor cats, one of whom is medically complex and has required extra care over the years. That experience has made me appreciate how important routine, trust, and thoughtful care are when someone else is looking after your pet. While I enjoy caring for both dogs and cats, I have a special soft spot for cats and understand that every one has a unique personality. Whether your pet wants to play, cuddle, or simply have a calm, reassuring presence while you're away, I'll meet them where they are. Because I work remotely, I have a flexible schedule and can provide dependable, attentive care along with updates and photos so you can relax knowing your pet is in good hands. I'd love the opportunity to meet you and your furry family members! I work remotely with a flexible schedule, which allows me to provide dependable care throughout the week. Whether it's drop-in visits, overnight house sitting, or keeping your pet's routine consistent while you're away, I enjoy building pet care into my day. I strive to be reliable, communicate clearly, and give each pet the time and attention they deserve. I know that pets are often happiest in their familiar environment, so I do my best to keep their routine as consistent as possible. I'll carefully follow your instructions for feeding, medications (when appropriate), exercise, litter box care, and any other special routines. I'll treat both your pets and your home with the same respect and care I would my own. You'll also receive regular updates and photos so you can enjoy your time away with peace of mind.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Grimes walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Grimes maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Grimes choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Grimes. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 92% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
