Hailey is a wonderful Petsitter. She took care of our 2 dogs and 1 cat, staying overnight at our house for 4 nights. She made sure the dogs had fun in the backyard and pool, and gave all 3 furries plenty of cuddles. Frequent communication via text with photos and video. Highly recommend Hailey!

We are so grateful for Austin’s taking care of our Doberman Fred. From the very beginning Austin was super responsive, came over to meet our dog to make sure they are a right match. Afterwards Austin returned to observe Fred’s habits couple more times and to walk him with me. During our 1 week trip he remained in contact with us with frequent updates, helping us with our separation anxiety. The dog and the house were in one piece upon our return (even with some treats left for Fred and us, along with a sweet note ). We would recommend Austin to any dog owner wanting to have a peace of mind during their absence and looking forward to having him over dog sitting again in the future.

About: I grew up in Mexico up until I was 6 years old and my family had so many different kinds of animals that ranged from cows, turkeys, chickens, pigs, cats, dogs and even the random peacock. Moving to the US, I grew up with a few dogs & a bunny who I loved very much. When I moved out on my own, I never had my own pet due to my living circumstances but my friends always would ask me to help take care of their pets while they’d be away and even during the pandemic, I assisted my friend who fostered animals. That experience singlehandedly changed my life for the better and made me love taking care of animals even more. Animals are such smart creatures and its important to connect with them well so they can trust you and respect you as well! Currently have very open availability as I moved back home to my family’s as I am taking a year to focus going back to school to get my MBA and would like to still work a bit while I study and apply to schools. Even if I were to get a full time job again, I would want to keep taking care of pets in my free time! Unfortunately, I won’t be able to take care of pets in my home as my mom runs a daycare but I will ensure your pet and your property are both well taken care of. I will clean up after myself and the pet(s) but also ensure they feel comfortable in their space. If needed to stay overnight, I will do as told and ensure the space is the same as it was left! Respecting someone’s home and pets is my number 1 priority.

About: Animals have always trusted me, and I take that seriously. I've cared for pets in all stages of life—whether it’s a high-energy pup needing structure or an older cat who just wants safe and spacious company. I pay close attention to each animal’s unique temperament and needs, and I’m often told I bring a calming presence. Friends and family have relied on me for years to step in when they’re away, knowing their pets—and their homes—will be treated with care and respect. I am a musician and work my own hours. This to say that I am uniquely available to meet the needs of your pet- routine included. I take great care to create a calm, gentle, attentive environment that feels safe and familiar for animals. I pay close attention to their routines, signals, and comfort zones. I am someone who insists on clarity. I understand the importance that instructions are clearly understood and for you to feel the comfort of that while you’re away. I communicate clearly, efficiently, and effectively. It takes a real trust to leave your animals and your home in someone else's hands, and I take that responsibility with utmost seriousness—treating your space and your companion with the respect they both deserve.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gaia was amazing with our two dogs! They are not always comfortable with new people, and Gaia went above and beyond to make sure they felt safe and comfortable with her. Before staying with them, she came over for multiple meet-and-greets just to spend time with them and let them get to know her at their own pace. That meant so much to us. She then stayed with them for a few days, and we were able to actually relax knowing they were in such good hands. She was incredibly patient, reliable, communicative, and genuinely caring. Most importantly, our dogs were happy and comfortable with her, which says everything. We would absolutely trust Gaia with them again and highly recommend her!

About: Hi! I’m Julia and dogs have always been an important part of my life. I grew up with an Old English Sheepdog that I miss dearly, and caring for her showed me how amazing it is to have a strong bond with a pet. Over the years, I’ve been trusted by friends, family, and neighbors to care for their dogs. I’m reliable, attentive, and committed to making sure every dog feels safe, comfortable, and loved while in my care. I have a flexible schedule and would love the opportunity to help care for your pup! I’m an online graduate student, so I have a fairly open schedule. I'm available most weekdays and weekends, allowing me to provide flexible care for your pets. I understand how important it is to trust someone with your pet, and I treat every animal with the same care and attention I would give my own. I strive to create a calm, positive environment where pets feel safe, comfortable, and loved. Whether we're going for a walk, playing, or simply keeping a routine, I focus on making sure your pet is happy and well cared for while you're away. I'll also keep you updated so you always know how your pet is doing.

About: I have been taking care of a variety of dogs over the last ten years. I have been able to give love to puppies, animals in their last months of life, and even three legged friends. I enjoy taking dogs on walks, hikes, playing fetch, and interactive enrichment games. My schedule as a substitute teacher gives me a lot of flexibility throughout the week. I typically work anywhere from 2-4 days Monday-Friday, usually from around 8 AM–3 PM, so I have plenty of availability before and after school, as well as on days when I’m not teaching. I love being active, spending time outdoors, and being around animals, so caring for pets is something I genuinely enjoy and look forward to fitting into my routine. Whether it’s a walk, time to play, a drop-in visit, or house sitting, I’m happy to give pets the attention, exercise, and companionship they need! I always start by learning each pet’s individual routine, personality, and needs. Most importantly though, I follow the owner’s instructions closely. My goal is to make the pet feel like nothing has changed, even though their owner is away. For walks and drop-in visits, I enjoy getting to know each pet and finding fun ways to keep them happy and engaged. Depending on their personality and energy level, that might include going for a walk, playing fetch, trying interactive games, spending time outside, or simply giving them plenty of attention and affection. I like offering more than one way for pets to get their energy out while also making sure they have everything they need before I leave. For house sitting, I’m happy to follow their usual feeding, walking, play, and bedtime routines while keeping them company and making sure the home stays clean and secure. Since every pet is different, I’m always happy to adjust my care to their individual temperament, preferences, and needs.

About: Hello! 🐾 Working with animals has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I have over a decade of experience caring for dogs and cats, including experience in dog grooming, working in a veterinary clinic, and providing professional pet-sitting services. I’m responsible, trustworthy, and truly dedicated to providing the best care possible for every pet I look after. I love going the extra mile for my clients and making sure their fur babies feel happy, safe, and loved while they’re away. Whether that means taking the pups on fun little field trips and adventures or simply staying home, cuddling, and keeping them company, I’m happy to tailor my care to their individual needs. 🐶💕 Your pets are family, and I treat them that way! 🐾🌸🩷 Feel free to send me a message so we can set up a meet-and-greet. I’d absolutely love the opportunity to meet you and your fur baby! ☺️🐶🐾💕 I have a very flexible schedule and am able to work around each client’s individual needs and routine. I’m happy to accommodate different schedules, whether that means daily visits, overnight stays, walks, or simply providing companionship and care while you’re away. My goal is to make sure every pet feels comfortable, loved, and well cared for while their family is away. When caring for pets, I like to learn as much as possible about their individual routines and needs so I can provide the best care possible. I like to know their feeding schedule, any medications they may be taking, and whether there are any behavioral or special needs I should be aware of. I also take into consideration their age, whether they are a puppy, kitten, adult, or senior, as some pets may need a little extra attention, patience, or care. For every pet-sitting arrangement, I also appreciate having an emergency contact and the information for their regular veterinarian or a nearby emergency vet, just in case something unexpected happens. My goal is to make each pet feel safe, comfortable, loved, and cared for just as they would be at home.

Hayley took great care of my 2 Australian Shepherds, Max and Marley, for a week while I was away on vacation. She communicated regularly, stayed aligned with my detailed and particular instructions (including walking them separately at times!), watered my outdoor potted plants during a heat wave, and sent photos, which I appreciate. Her boyfriend even fixed my patio door handle, so I gave them a little tip so they can go out to dinner as a thank you! When she came back to pick up something she left accidentally, the puppies were *very* excited and happy to see her, so I know they were in very good hands. :)

I was faced with a very difficult situation just a couple of days before Zack began his stay with the dogs. I had a flood in the kitchen and the HOA insisted on Disaster Mitigation, which was horribly unsettling, disruptive and noisy. My entire kitchen was and still is, 4 weeks later, turned upside down and inside out, and for most of the tie he had no cooking facilities or laundry. Zack dealt with this very calmly, took it completely in his stride. Because he was so calm the dogs were calm too, despite all the upset on top of my absence. I did everything I could to make the situation easier for him but I left for a 24 day trip to Europe and had only very limited wifi for most of the time.

FAQs for House Sitting - Thousand Oaks

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Thousand Oaks on Rover is $100.52 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 10,372 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Thousand Oaks. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Thousand Oaks walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Thousand Oaks maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Thousand Oaks choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Thousand Oaks. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
