Jeremy took incredible care of our bullmastiff, Bernie, who can definitely be a handful! He kept us updated with photos and messages throughout the stay, left our home spotless, and gave us complete peace of mind while we were away. We couldn't have asked for a better sitter and will absolutely book him again. Highly recommend!

Jeff was outstanding! He worked with Otto who was initially shy. By the time I returned he was having a great time with Jeff, playing and eating and being himself. I would definitely ask Jeff to watch Otto again!

Jacqui took extremely good care of our pups tending to all their needs . She was very transparent and communicative about everything happening and she is a very reliable sitter . We left our dogs at our home under her care for almost 6 days while we were traveling and we had a stress free vacation knowing that our dogs were getting the right care and attention .

Lilly was fantastic with our three dogs. Two of them are 15 y/o and needed a lot of personal attention - and she was terrific. The dogs all loved her, she stayed in touch with us and sent pictures. You know when you meet Lilly that you have a super dependable and kind person that will care for your pets like they were hers. The ratings only go up to '5' but she earned a '10'!!

Liana was such a good sitter and friend to Karl!! Came in town for the weekend have never used Rover before so was a little bit nervous. We were also staying at an Airbnb. So it was a little bit of a complex situation seeing as how we came in town for an event on Sunday so we needed Liana all day but she made us trust rover and she was amazing with our corgi Karl, took him on a hike and showed him around town with our permission! Sent us pics and updates! We know he was well taken care of and had a great time exploring with Liana! Anytime we’re back in the area will def ask her again! Def recommend to any family or friend or any other paw parent!

Julie is truly amazing! She stayed in my apartment for five days to care for my dog, Oliver, and went so far above and beyond my expectations. Her schedule is very flexible, she’s completely reliable, and she followed every single one of my (very detailed!) instructions to a T. She took fantastic care of Oliver, with plenty of walks, attention, and love, and kept me updated with wonderful photos and messages. When I got home, she had even left a personalized “report card” for Oliver, which was so thoughtful and adorable that I’ve actually hung it up in my kitchen! Julie is incredibly respectful, easy to communicate with, and just a lovely person all around. I can’t say enough good things about her. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, caring, and genuinely dedicated to your pup’s happiness.

About: Animals have always been a big part of my life. For over 15 years, I’ve cared for pets of all kinds, from playful dogs and cuddly cats to unique reptiles. I’ve raised and been around energetic puppies and kittens, and I understand the extra patience and gentle care senior pets need. Volunteering at an animal shelter deepened my love for animals and taught me how to work with different personalities, temperaments, and special needs. I treat every pet as if they were my own — with patience, attention, and plenty of love — because I know how important it is to trust someone with a member of your family. Taking care of pets is my full time job while going to school so I am available 24/7. My school is all online so i can dedicate most of my time to your pet. I have one dog who goes out 4-5 times a day with at least one 30 minute walk. He's very friendly and loves to snuggle. I also have a 9-month-old kitten who's full of personality and very curious. She loves other animals and loves a good sunbathing moment.

We were hesitant to leave our senior dog with someone new, but after meeting Lilian, we were immediately at ease. She didn’t bat an eye at my extremely lengthy instructions and sent lots of photos and videos. Our sweet girl takes some extra care and patience and we are so grateful that we were able to enjoy our vacation knowing she was in the best of hands. Our furnace went out the day before we returned and she handled it all without a glitch (despite a freezing cold house). We feel lucky to have found Lillian!

About: I’ve been caring for animals for most of my life and currently have 6 horses, 5 ducks, 5 cats, a dog, bunnies, and a hamster. All of these animals are under my responsibility, and I help provide their daily care, including feeding, cleaning, exercise, grooming, and monitoring their health. Growing up around so many different types of animals has taught me patience, responsibility, and how to understand each pet’s unique needs and personality. I am a true animal lover and treat every pet as if it were my own, ensuring they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their owners are away. I am a full-time equestrian show Jumper and we usually go out of town about once an every other month from Wednesday to Sunday. I will know if I'm leaving out of town months in advance. It will be no surprise. I also ride horses almost every day, so I'm usually at the barn in the a.m. but can always switch times and be flexible. When caring for pets in someone else’s home, I am always respectful of both their animals and their property. I grew up understanding the importance of treating other people’s belongings with care and respect. I will follow all instructions provided, keep the home clean and secure, and make sure pets maintain their normal routines so they feel comfortable and safe. My goal is to provide dependable care while giving owners peace of mind that both their pets and home are being treated as if they were my own

Hayley dog sat our two little dogs last Saturday and she was lovely. If she has availability to sit your dog, definitely contact and book her! First of all, our one dog is a 15 year old diabetic with a host of other problems. He has to eat at a certain time, take oral medications, and get his insulin shot at a certain time. With a meet and greet, Hayley actually came over and learned how to give him his shot. To be honest, it's really hard to find someone to give an insulin shot who'll also sit, but Hayley got the gist right away! She's really nice and very responsive. I felt very comfortable leaving our dogs in Hayley's care. I got photos all night, updates on their feeding/meds, and when I came home late at night, everything was very tidy and cleaned up. So, the point being, if you can get Hayley to sit for you, do it. It was such a relief having her here with our little guys. We will definitely be asking her to sit for us in the future :) She's great!

FAQs for House Sitting - Malibu

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Malibu on Rover is $64.2 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 11,230 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Malibu. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Malibu walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Malibu maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Malibu choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Malibu. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
