“We had a great experience with Destiny. She looked after our reactive and anxious pup (and our home) for long weekend with minimal orientation or prep, and they formed an amazing bond. Our neighborhood is not easy for dog walking! Destiny was extremely diligent with our dog's daily schedule, needs/wants, med administration, and separation anxiety. It is clear how seriously she takes her responsibilities. Our home was very clean upon our return. We will definitely reach out to Destiny again the next time we need to leave town without our pup.”

“Norwyn was wonderful Great communication, provided photos & updates Was empathetic to our pups injury and knew how to properly approach & interact with them. Our pup was calm and relaxed upon our return. We look forward to having Norwyn sit for us in the future.”

“I cannot recommend Ryan enough! She dog sat for my two fur babies and was an absolute pleasure to work with. Responsive, communicative, kind, respectful, and a calming force - the perfect care taker for my two high energy, very spoiled dogs. We look forward to booking her again soon!”

“Madeleine is kind and caring with My cocker spaniel. She grew up with animals, including a cocker, so she knew just what my dog needed. I have many items in the daily routine, and she tried to make it work. She’s very loving with him. And since this was also a house sit, Madeleine made a great effort to Clean up bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. I would recommend her without reservation.”

“We are so happy we found Viva! Viva quickly evidenced attentiveness, experience working with dogs with needs, and overall care and enthusiasm for our dogs. Viva was punctual, easy to communicate with, and proactively shared photos throughout. Thank you, Viva!”

“Celine was a wonderful companion for our somewhat anxious dog. She provided regular updates, great communication, and left our place very clean at the end of her stay. We highly recommend her!”

“John was an awesome pupsitter and we would definitely hire him again! He was communicative, thorough, and very attentive to our 2 dogs over the course of the week that he watched them. Highly recommend him!”

“Ashton was a great sitter for our dog and cat while we traveled out of town for a few days. My dog can be a bit anxious so it’s always a bit nerve wrecking leaving her with someone else but Ashton was up for the challenge and my anxious girl warmed right up to her. She even made an extra trip over during the day when my dog was having a little bit of a panic moment. Will definitely use her again!”

“Megan stayed with our dog, Margot, and was excellent. Our dog can be unfriendly to other dogs and Megan followed our instructions to a tee! I can’t recommend her enough. Margot was happy and healthy when we returned and Megan was communicative with photos throughout the stay. So happy we booked Megan!”

“Bret accepted our short notice booking and stopped by for a meet & greet before we headed out for a weekend trip, which was great. Our pets are currently pretty low maintenance but it was important for us to have someone stay the weekend while we had some R&R. We’d have Bret back on a future vacation.”
“Martha was amazing! She asked great questions to make sure my pets got the best care and she was constantly sending updates. She even cleaned the bedding after staying and it was like she was never even there! Would definitely book again.”

“Brooklynn did an awesome job watching our dog Sadie for the night. We reached out to her with fairly short notice and she was very accommodating in setting up a meet and greet beforehand. She was great with communication, followed all of our instructions, and kept us updated with pics.”

About: I’ve had dogs my whole life, and have been helping to care for them (walking, feeding, etc.) since I was around 10 years old. I’ve pet sit for many family friends throughout the years - dogs and cats alike. Recently I even housesat for 4 dogs and 2 cats all at the same time! My family dogs both recently passed away and I’ve been looking for something to fill the whole in my heart. Would love to take care of your pets! I am a freelance writer, musician, and retail associate, so I’m able to make my own schedule a lot of the time. I’m free during the day Monday-Thursday to walk your pooch or for drop-in visits, and I’m available after work on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (I typically get off around 3-5 pm). I can walk, feed, or house sit for your dogs or cats. Also just love spending time with them in general! Whatever you need, I’m here to help.
“Jackiellen is the best! She house sat our two senior cats and pup and it was so wonderful knowing our pets and home were looked after! She gets the best photos, is a great communicator and takes her time and care with our girls. We have two pets that need meds and it’s such a relief to have someone trustworthy take care of them! So happy we found Jackiellen :)”

“Sarah was amazing! She was available for a last minute booking with Athena and stayed at our house. Her communication was prompt, and we felt at ease on our trip knowing Athena was well taken care of. Will definitely reach out for future trips!”

“Heather was wonderful, my Husky pup seemed to feel very at ease with her and she understood him and his quirks very well. I also really appreciated all of the photos and updates she sent!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Portland
Jules was absolutely outstanding! She had wonderful communication with us, and really took the time to get to know us, our dog Daisy, and Daisy’s routine. She is absolutely wonderful with animals and treats them like they’re her own! Daisy is already looking forward to the next time Jules comes back to stay with her!

Highly recommend Maddie! She was fantastic with my elderly dog, Oliver, who has separation anxiety. During our initial visit, she was wonderful with him and asked detailed questions to understand his needs. Throughout my entire work trip, Maddie was highly communicative and sent regular photo updates, giving me total peace of mind. I returned to a clean house and a very comfortable, happy dog. It is rare to find someone who provides this level of specialized care, patience, and affection. I will absolutely use Maddie again!

“Everything went really smoothly with Meagan” said Clover when being interviewed after the weekend. “Belly rubs, treats and cuddles were top notch. Though the guy that normally rubs my belly wasn’t hear, I barely even noticed since Meagan was clearly a pro. She took care of me and my little heart condition awesomely”, she continued. From that guy that is normally around, thanks for making that part of my quick weekend away stress free.

Elise was wonderful. There were a few bumps in the road the first day (on my side) she handled calmly and effortless. I came home to a very happy dog (she is a rescue and not happy being left alone so when she was not anxious when I got back that is a plus) and my house was spotless.

Kari did a wonderful job caring for our dog, Butters! She took care of his medical needs and was very good at communication, providing us routine updates and photos. She also left the house clean, which was greatly appreciated. We would be happy to have Kari back to help us out in the future and highly recommend her!

Viva is the absolute best!! I am so grateful to have found her and cannot recommend her enough. It’s such a relief to know your dog is not only in caring, knowledgeable hands but is also having the most fun day!! Our pup absolutely adores her. We appreciate all the picture updates she sends, her flexibility, clear communication, and her incredible positive energy.

Samantha did such a great job taking care of the dogs! Walking, snuggling, doing meds and generally helping them feel like they were home (they were!) and nothing had really changed (except I wasn't there). She sent me pictures of them so I could feel connected.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Portland on Rover is $70.66 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 684 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Portland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Portland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Portland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Portland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Portland. On Rover:
- 98% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
