“Destiny was amazing with our dogs! We have 3 dogs which can be a handful at times but she took great care of them. Put my mind at ease day 1 of our trip. Highly recommend and will be booking again in future!”

“Zed enjoyed his staycation immensely. He was spoiled rotten and got to do all the fun things. Now I wonder if he's secretly hoping I'll leave again, which is better than him getting depressed when I'm gone. Communication was good and the house is just as I left it.”

“This is the first time we have used a dog sitter. Previously we had always used relatives to watch our dogs. Since we moved that was not an option. Tamara did a fantastic job taking care of our shy dog. She was able to gain Mia’s trust very quickly. I would definitely use her in the future and would highly recommend her.”

“I could not have asked for better last-minute care for my stressed out pups, than Sayla. She was punctual, professional, adored my dogs and asked all the right questions, was super honest about everything going on. She went above and beyond —several visits beforehand and extra care once settled in—and you can tell she sincerely loves dogs and their welfare and making them comfortable is her top priority. I would recommend Sayla in a heartbeat!”

“Lexie was amazing! She sent photo updates and made sure we were constantly aware of how our pups were doing throughout the day. We are so looking forward to hiring her again! Our dogs love her!!!”

“Emily was fantastic! This was our 1st time leaving Theo with someone other than family and we were very nervous. Theo became best friends with Emily I know he enjoyed her staying with him very much. She was fantastic at communicating with us. I will definitely call Emily again to come stay with him. P.s I think he misses her 🙂”

“This was our first time using rover and the first time leaving our fur baby behind from any of our trips, Alex is great she sent updates and pictures of our Teddy daily! This was very comforting to us ! She even walked him several times which is a job in itself, Teddy is not the best walker he likes to pull . But it didn’t stop Alex from doing it. If I could give her 100 stars I would .!! Will definitely have her watch our Teddy in the future. If you want peace of mind hire Alex as your next pet sitter . You will not be disappointed! Thank you so much Alex you’re awesome !❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”

About: Hi! My name is Heidi, and I’m a caring, reliable pet lover who truly enjoys spending time with animals of all kinds. I understand how important it is to feel confident and comfortable leaving your pets in someone else’s care, and I treat every pet as if they were my own. Pet care fits well into my schedule after 3:00 PM on most weekdays. Mondays are limited due to working late, but I have open and flexible availability on weekends for walks and drop-in visits. When it comes to your pet, I am flexible and happy to accommodate their individual needs. We can play fetch in the yard or go for walks, as long as there are detailed instructions for your pet’s care. I am willing to help in any way I can to ensure your pet feels safe, happy, and well cared for.
“This was our first time using Rover! Kory was awesome in so many ways. She was completely reliable and went over and above to care for our sweet Mr. Oliver and our house! We will definitely be calling on Kory again!”

“Great experience! The did what we agreed upon, when we came home our house was clean and tidy & was a relief that we came home to happy, well exercised & fed pups. We appreciate you!!!💕✨”

“Anne-Renee was a great communicator, and took great care of our injured boy while we had a night out. She kept us in the loop and gave us peace of mind while we were gone. I’d happily book her again.”

“this young lady watched our two dachshunds overnight in our home. one of our dachshunds is handicapped with some paraplegic issues which affect her ability to control her bladder. We keep her in a doggie diaper when inside. she also needs to be lifted up and down so no jumping, stairs, etc. Lyris did an excellent job. she arrived on time, displayed a true caring attitude towards both our pets and us. We returned home to a clean house and two happy dogs. Will definitely call on her again...and again.”

About: While I’m new to Rover, I’ve grown up around dogs my whole life and have always been a big dog lover. In 2022, my family got our dog Roxi, who is like my best friend. With Roxi, I’ve been fully involved in everything, walking her, feeding her, training her, and making sure she stays active and happy. I’ve also grown up helping to look after family dogs when relatives go away, so I’m used to different personalities and routines. I’m originally from Ireland and recently moved to Florida after completing my MBA at Marshall University in West Virginia. I now coach youth soccer, so I’m very active, responsible, and used to being around people (and animals) all the time. Moving to the U.S. has been a big change for me, and being away from my family and my own dog has definitely made me miss them a lot, and it’s made me appreciate even more how much I love being around dogs every day. I’d say I’m quite laid-back, reliable, and easy to get along with. I like being outdoors, staying active, and I’m always up for a walk or keeping a dog company rather than just sitting around. I’m also very respectful of people’s homes and routines, and I understand how important it is to trust someone with your pet. I know how much dogs mean to their owners because mine means everything to me, so I always treat every dog like they’re part of my own family. I’m happy to send updates and photos as well, so owners feel completely comfortable while they’re away. Right now, I coach soccer in the evenings during the week and sometimes on weekends, usually for a couple of hours. Outside of that, my schedule is very flexible. I’m generally available in the mornings, afternoons, and often evenings for walks, drop-ins, and house sitting. My coaching hours are not long, so I’m able to work around pet care easily and adjust my schedule when needed. I take care of pets in their own homes so they can stay comfortable in a familiar environment. I make sure they’re well looked after with things like feeding, fresh water, walks, playtime, and giving medication if needed. I also keep things clean and stick to their usual routine as much as possible. I always spend time with the pets too, whether that’s playing with them or just keeping them company so they don’t feel lonely while you’re away. I’m happy to send regular updates and photos so you know how they’re doing. I treat every pet like my own and make sure they feel safe, happy, and cared for the whole time.

About: I have had 2-4 pets in my home for my entire life and they have always been cared for lovingly and well. I am consistently trusted to check in on or dog/house sit for family and friends. I am a college student home for the summer so I have full availability during days and nights. I am willing to overnight sit and drop in throughout the day. I have a fenced in yard and two small elderly dogs. They are crate trained and can stay separate from the dogs I am dog sitting if needed. They are friendly and low energy. All size dogs welcome for my services!
“Matt was an excellent sitter for our three dogs. He stayed at our home and was incredibly respectful, adaptive, and easy to work with throughout. He left the house spotless, and most importantly, our pups clearly enjoyed his company. We felt completely comfortable knowing they were in good hands. Highly recommend Matt to anyone looking for a reliable and thoughtful sitter.”

“Sophia was so great with our Beau. She followed our instructions to a T, sent us updates on him a few times a day, and even let him convince her to take him on more walks than he usually gets 😂 it was so great to be on vacation and not have to worry that Beau was being taken care of with the same amount of love that we would. Beau loves her and so do we! I couldn’t recommend her enough!!!”

“THE best sitter ever! Seriously. Kind, attentive and great communicater. She sat for our 16.5 yr old doxie and we came home to a happy pup. At 16.5 he does have a couple special needs for caring and walking. She will for ever be our sitter. Without a doubt. She even left US a thank you note. She, herself, is absolutely a lovely person.”

“Lucy was amazing! She was super responsive to all our messages and very attentive to our dog, Blue. She walked him several times each day, spending lots of time at our house to make sure he received all the love and playing that he needed while we were traveling.”

The median cost per night for house sitting in Melbourne is $50
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Melbourne
Mindy was amazing with our pups. I was so impressed by her attention to detail and dedication. She was able to keep up with our potty training schedule and my dogs felt at home with her. I highly recommend her services and will definitely rebook in the future!!

5 stars again! Ciara is an excellent cat sitter and went above and beyond throughout her stay. She sent regular updates, spent quality time playing with the cats, made sure they were well fed and hydrated, and kept their litter box and areas clean. She also administered medication on a strict schedule and was incredibly attentive to their needs. I would highly recommend her!

We highly recommend Brianna! She watched our three dogs—Tucker, Lacy, and Charlie—for five nights, and we could not have asked for a better experience. From the moment we left, we felt completely at ease. Brianna provided excellent communication, sending us regular updates and fantastic pictures of the dogs looking happy and well-cared for. It was clear our dogs were getting lots of love and attention. She also went above and beyond our expectations by leaving our house spotlessly clean upon our return, which was a wonderful bonus. We will absolutely be using Brianna again! If you're looking for a reliable, caring, and trustworthy dog sitter, look no further.

This is the first time we have used Jen for dog sitting and we were very pleased. She sent us photos of Dunkin throughout the week and he looked very relaxed. If she had any questions about Dunkin's care and/or the house, she reached out and texted me. Jen made this a very relaxing vacation.

Tina gave consistent care with feeding, potty breaks and medication. Our only reason for giving 4 stars is that our dog was given 3am potty breaks (as evidenced by our doorbell camera) because of Tina's work schedule. That resulted in a disruption of our dog's normal routine. Since returning home, we have had to work on getting her back on "normal" schedule with an approx breakfast/dinner potty breaks.

FAQs for House Sitting - Melbourne
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Melbourne on Rover is $43.05 per night (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of June 2026, there are 646 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Melbourne. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Melbourne walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Melbourne maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Melbourne choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Melbourne. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
