“Mariah was very attentive to my instructions and left my house looking spotless. She made sure to send plenty of updates and my boys looked like they had a blast. Highly recommend Mariah!”

“Michelle was absolutely amazing with our dogs! She gave regular, detailed status updates, spoiled them with so much love, and just went above and beyond. Our pups adored her, and we felt completely at ease the entire time. We’d hire her again in a heartbeat!”

“Johanna was fantastic with Luna and Pete. They were very comfortable and happy with her and instantly cuddled with her the day we left. When we arrived back home they were happy and well cared for. I highly recommend Johanna.”

“Jeff is great. Extremely reliable and compassionate with my dogs. He took great care of them. And left my house in the same condition as it was when I left. I highly recommend him. I have had a lot of problems with Rover in Austin and Jeff is one of the few sitters I feel comfortable leaving my dogs with”

“I can't speak highly enough of Christine! She was attentive, communicative, and overall just such an amazing sitter for our pets. She went above and beyond to make our pets feel at home, safe, and loved. We will also reach out to Christine to watch our babies and you should too!”

“Megan was amazing! This booking was very last minute and it was so appreciated. Meredith loved her and we got lots of photos and videos. We will definitely be booking Megan again in the future.”

“Michael always does a wonderful job watching our critters. He takes good care of our home and makes sure that our dogs and cat are well cared for when we are away. We are very happy and grateful for Michael's services.”

“There are not enough good things to say about our experience with Alex. I am normally a basket case with just leaving LeeLoo but now we have our 3 month old, Zeppelin, whom we cannot board. Alex was beyond attentive to their needs, schedules, and our instructions. He is very respectful and knows animal behavior. Our home was left in the same (actually better) condition than when we left. He provided updates frequently. But most of all, when we got home… the dogs weren’t even that excited to see us 😂😂😂😂. They were comfortable and cared for extremely well. Will be booking Alex again for sure.”

“Jamie is the best! Our dogs loved her; she was great with them. Took them for walks and snuggled with them on the couch. She communicated regularly with videos and photos, so we were able to relax and enjoy our trip. And she cleaned the house before we got home. All really great!!”

“Willow was amazing. I am always an overbearing pet parent to my kiddos and she was so sweet always answering my texts and sending me pictures every day. Truly the best!”

“German Shepherd mix) for three nights and did a fantastic job. She was super organized and communicative — we got an update after every walk — and left the house clean and tidy. We’ll definitely be booking with her again!”

“I can’t recommend Joely enough! We needed a pretty last minute dog sitter for our two-week vacation to Italy, and she was a complete lifesaver. Our two boys absolutely loved her, and she sent photo updates everyday, which we were extremely thankful for since we missed them so much! We will definitely rebook Joely again for all of our dog sitter needs :)”

“It was so great to be able to rely on Dina for the best service possible for my Kaila. Kaila is a high energy pup and I was so grateful for Dina to make sure that she would be all tired out and happy to see me home! I highly recommend Dina - she's wonderful with Kaila!! I would have given this 10 stars if there was an option. thanks, Dina!”
“Cayla is a great dogsitter for our rescue dog Annie. Annie tends to get really nervous when we're away and Cayla is very good with her; she's responsible and made us feel very comfortable having her stay in our home. Would highly recommend.”

“Magdalene was amazing she stayed at our house and watched Ella. She took great care of our little stinker and our house. She was very accommodating taking her to doggie daycare and even giving her a bath when she needed. She sent us pictures and updates regularly. Ella was having tummy issues and she went and got her some pumpkin to help out. She is amazing thank you so much for everything.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Hays
For those of you who get bored with long reviews, let me save you some time: stop scrolling through profiles and BOOK HOPE. If we could leave a 10-star review for her, we absolutely would. For the past eight years, we've had a wonderful pet sitter who kept our pets in her home whenever we traveled. We knew her, trusted her implicitly, and most importantly, our animals adored her. This year, however, she wasn't available during the dates we'd be away, and I immediately panicked. Where was I going to find an A-level replacement with only a week to spare? We've had less-than-stellar experiences with boarding facilities in the past, so that wasn't an option. After exhausting my personal network, I pulled up Rover. I started scrolling through profiles, and while many people seemed great, none truly stood out. Then I came across Hope's profile, which boldly stated, "I'll care for them like they're my own." Okay, you've got my attention. As I continued reading, it became clear that Hope was a thorough, thoughtful communicator with a flexible schedule and a genuinely nurturing heart—qualities that were important to us. Since I needed to make a decision quickly, I reached out right away. She responded within 20 minutes, confirmed her availability, and patiently waited while I finalized our travel details. Once everything was settled, she scheduled a meet-and-greet for the very next day. She arrived right on time with warm energy and a welcoming smile. We introduced her to our senior dog and mischievous cat, then spent time discussing her background, experience, expectations, medications, feeding routines, overnight care, and all the details that come with leaving your pets. One thing that impressed me was the quality of her questions—she brought up things I hadn't even considered. By the end of the visit, I felt a tremendous sense of relief. I knew our fur babies would be in good hands, and I was convinced that her profile tagline was a true statement. When we left for our trip, we felt confident about their care, though naturally a little nervous about how they would handle our absence. By the end of the first day, we had already received photos and a detailed update. What immediately stood out was Hope's honesty. She didn't simply tell us everything was “fine”—she shared that they seemed a little sad and were clearly adjusting to the change, but she was confident they'd settle into a routine in no time. That level of transparency reassured me that she was truly paying attention and interacting with them, not just stopping by to refill food bowls and move on with her day. The first few days sounded like an adjustment period. There was some pouting, lower energy, and understandable reluctance to embrace their new human. Since our pets had never stayed in our home without us before, I worried they might struggle to adapt to the new arrangement. Thankfully, the transition was short-lived, and before long everyone had found their groove. Every single day, Hope sent us colorful updates about their adventures. Even while on vacation, I found myself looking forward to her messages. They were informative, funny, and full of personality. More importantly, they made it obvious that she was spending real quality time with our pets and getting to know them as individuals. Through her words, I could see their personalities shining through. The photos and videos consistently showed happy, healthy, well-loved animals, which allowed us to fully relax and enjoy our trip. At the end of her stay, Hope let us know that we were out of dog food and offered to pick up a bag so we wouldn't have to rush out immediately after returning home. Our dog certainly wasn't going to starve, and he probably could have skipped a meal if necessary, but having that errand taken care of was truly above and beyond. It's those thoughtful details that separate a good pet sitter from an exceptional one. If you're still reading this review, I commend you—I usually tap out around sentence six myself. The truth is, I could probably write a short novel about how wonderful our first experience with Hope was, but I'll stop here so you can go book her before someone else does. We will absolutely be booking her again in the future, and I've already referred her to several friends. I'm going to miss getting her daily updates, and if I'm being completely honest, I'm pretty sure our pets are going to miss her even more.

Suzanne was wonderful with our lab, Dixie! From the moment she arrived for the meet and greet, her love for animals was evident and her professionalism impressive. Suzanne was attentive to detailed instructions, asked pertinent questions, and clearly had Dixie’s welfare in mind at all times. And when there were last minute plan changes, Suzanne was ON IT!!!…..she was patient and flexible, always willing to ensure Dixie received the best care possible. Her daily updates and praise for our girl put our minds at ease, knowing that Dixie had the love and affection she craves. What more could you ask for?!?!?! Suzanne was a WIN for everyone and we won’t hesitate to use her in the future! Thanks again, Suzanne!!!!!!

Trinity took great care of Emi and kept me updated with photos throughout the stay, which I really appreciated.😊 She also left the sweetest little drawing of Emi with a World Cup theme, which was such a thoughtful touch. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and reliable pet sitter!

I had a wonderful house / pet sitting experience with Kaitlyn. Her exceptional reliability and timely communications/updates provided much appreciated travel peace of mind and both of my dogs were happy and healthy. She was very attentive to my "girls" too - even quickly reacting and caring for a heat rash that developed on one of them. Lastly, she took great care of my house too - leaving it clean and tidy. We'll definitely use Kaitlyn for future sittings.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Hays walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Hays maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Hays choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
