“Michael was a great pet sitter! We have a personal protection dog - a Malinois- and she can be a handful. He quickly learned how to handle her. To those that have these dogs - let me tell you- Michael knows how to deal with Maligators and make them calm & happy.”

“Trista stayed with my young, sociable cat on short notice for 5 nights. She was communicative and responsive. Trista took care of my space and left it just as she found it -- including washing the sheets on the bed. I came home to a happy and well-cared for kitty. I wholeheartedly recommend Trista as a pet sitter. Thanks Trista!”

“Ellie took wonderful care of our beloved pets and home. She gives attention to detail and regular updates which helped us enjoy being away, knowing our pups were getting plenty of love!”

“Sam took incredible care of our dog and our home. We booked her pretty last minute, and she was quick to respond and set up a meet and greet. While we were gone, her communication was excellent and she sent multiple updates/photos of Sarge each day. We also came home to a super clean house. Would 100% recommend Sam and use her again - our dog loved her. Thanks, Sam!”

“Lucy is great! She is super respectful, responsible, and easy to work with. She took excellent care of our large and active dog for 9 days with lots of dog walks, treats, and snuggles! She sent updates and pictures of our dog to set our minds at ease and left our home clean for our return. I will definitely book Lucy again if she is available! Thank you Lucy!”

“Sammy was amazing. We received pictures everyday with a little recap. Luna seemed perfectly happy while we were away, I don't think she missed us at all. Sammy also left the house very clean, which was appreciated when we got home late.”

About: I’ve taken care of my own as well as close relative’s pets (cats, dogs, horses, chickens) numerous times. My friend owns 5 cats and each one enjoys my company. I work mornings at my primary job, but after 1 pm, I’m free to begin any services. Two days during the week, I can provide services in the morning as well! I would really like to add a fur buddy or two to my outside time! I’m pretty good with following steps and routines. My friends and family relatives trust me entering their homes and caring for their pets, I’m hoping to be given opportunities to get to know your pets!
“Sarah watched our dog and home for a bit over 2 weeks and was absolutely wonderful. She regularly sent us photos of activities she was doing with our dog and was very respectful of our space. This was our first experience with an at-home sitter and we were a bit nervous at first but as soon as we met Sarah we were put at ease. She's kind, respectful and excellent with our dog. Can't recommend her enough!”

About: Hi everyone! My family has always had dogs, we had a rhodesian ridgeback and a mut while I was growing up. My family has also fostered puppies on and off for the last few years. Through middle and high school I would pet sit for my parents friends, and I was a stable hand for our neighbours horses down the street. I love dogs and have always surrounded myself by them, weather through having my own, fostering, or pet sitting. I’m currently in nursing school. When I don’t have clinicals (which my availability will reflect), I just have classes in town for a couple hours a couple days a week. I don’t have a yard where I’m living right now, but I love taking dogs to the river, hikes, dog parks, ect. I live a super active lifestyle and am always outside doing stuff, so having a dog to accompany me on my adventures works out perfectly!
About: I have lived in a dog friendly household ever since I can remember. Growing up, my family always had Boxers so I am more than used to taking care of energetic dogs. I have helped raise many a puppy, as well as cared for our family dogs as they eased into old age. I recently adopted a puppy from Northern Arizona Animal Search and Rescue. We are working on socializing her with both dogs and people. She absolutely loves playing with other dogs! I currently work from home full time so I will be home the entire time your pet stays with me. I am also a runner and run 7 days a week, so I would be more than happy to take your pup with me for a short run, walk, hike or whatever it is that you would like! I have a larged fenced in yard with a gate for your dog to play in. I also have plenty of room in my house to store a crate if needed!
“Deanne was amazing while taking care of our two year old Aussie mix. She was patient with our dog who takes a while to warm up to new people, she provided regular updates, fully gained his trust quickly and took him on walks and gave him snuggles. I would definitely use her services again and highly recommend her for anyone needing any type of pet sitting service!”

About: As an avid outdoor enthusiast and dog lover you can be sure your dog is getting the attention and exercise they need! I try to take the dogs out 2 times a day for walks and every couple of hours for potty breaks. I do have a wonderful pup-o of my own, Luna so your doggo has some company. Is your dog more of a runner? If so I’ll pop on my mountain bike and let them do some trail running... more of a lazy doggo? How about some ice cream? Just kidding... no ice cream! Definitely a happy household and a fun loving environment for everyone! If you have any questions, concerns or special needs, feel free to reach out. Thanks and I look forward to meeting with you and your pup!
“Kendyl was wonderful. She helped us out in a pinch, as we had to scramble to find a house/pet sitter in a few days. She met Emmitt the next day, and it was an easy decision. The house was neat and tidy, and the animals were happy. I'd gladly use Kendyl again!”

“Mary was a wonderful house sitter. We came home to happy pets and a clean house. She did a great job communicating throughout her stay and sent pictures and updates regularly. We will definitely book Mary again!”

Lucy was so great with our super anxious geriatric Mastiff. Our Calli girl is so picky but she started warming up to Lucy right away! Lucy took amazing care of Calli and our home while we were out of the country. She sent us updates and was great at communicating even with the challenges of the time zone differences. 10/10 recommend!

Sam took incredible care of our dog and our home. We booked her pretty last minute, and she was quick to respond and set up a meet and greet. While we were gone, her communication was excellent and she sent multiple updates/photos of Sarge each day. We also came home to a super clean house. Would 100% recommend Sam and use her again - our dog loved her. Thanks, Sam!

Chris was great. I’m someone who worries about her animals when I’m gone. I had absolutely no worries with Chris. He sent me pics and notes each day. We came home to happy and calm pets and a sparkling clean house and yard. House, dog, cat and plants were all in great shape!

Deb was absolutely wonderful with our two little Yorkies. We were visiting Durango on vacation and wanted to do a full day activity that our little guys could not do with us. From the very first contact she made us feel completely comfortable with leaving them for the full day. She texted every few hours and sent pictures as well which we absolutely loved!!🥰 We could not have asked for anything better!!

Ana did a wonderful job staying at my house, taking care of two large dogs. Ana is wonderful with communication and updates throughout the stay. After returning from vacation, my house seemed to be in much better condition than when we left. My pups are so happy and really enjoyed spending time with Ana!

Trista stayed with my young, sociable cat on short notice for 5 nights. She was communicative and responsive. Trista took care of my space and left it just as she found it -- including washing the sheets on the bed. I came home to a happy and well-cared for kitty. I wholeheartedly recommend Trista as a pet sitter. Thanks Trista!

Elizabeth has watched my cats several times now. She is so considerate and always leaves the house and cats in great shape. I recently went on a trip and had to leave the cats for longer than I ever have before, which was probably more difficult for me than the cats but Elizabeth made sure I knew they were in great hands with cute pictures and updates every day. Please never move away, Elizabeth!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Durango on Rover is $53.5 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 142 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Durango. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Durango walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Durango maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Durango choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Durango. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
