He showed incredible patience, especially with one of my pups who can be a little shy around new people. It was clear right away how great he is with animals — calm, attentive, and genuinely caring. He followed every single instruction, which gave me so much peace of mind. I could tell my dogs absolutely loved him — their tails were wagging nonstop when he arrived, and they came back from their walks happy and relaxed. About: I have been a pet carer since I could hold a spoon and scoop cat food onto a plate. My family had two cats for my entire childhood; they lived to 18 and 19 years old! I have cat-sat for friends and family for all my life and through this have become extremely comfortable with cats—from the grumpy to the cuddly. I have given cats medicine in most forms that don't require a certification (pills, syringe, in food, inhalers, ointments... just no injections!) and have sitted for kittens, cats with illnesses like chronic respiratory issues, cancer, and severe skin allergies, and have no queasiness when it comes to the realities of life with cats! With dogs, I have more of the proper pet-sitting experience. That has really ramped up in the last year, since we moved to Portland and into an apartment that is pet-friendly. I have loved getting to know each dog and adjusting so they have the best time possible (it can't be easy leaving home for a stranger's house!). For example, one dog tends to have a much better, more peaceful day if I get him out to the woods for a run/walk in the morning before work (who wouldn't!) Another loves to cuddle, so we put a blanket on the couch so that she can snuggle while we watch TV at night with constant pets. Another is whip-smart, so I try to make sure we do extra enrichment/play time. With all animals, I try to go above and beyond and see them as individuals with distinct personalities and needs. :) I am a work-from-home journalist who would absolutely love some company, playtime, cuddles, and more reasons to get outside during the day. Sadly, I travel too much right now to adopt a pet of my own. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to bond with and share my space with an animal! My work schedule is incredibly flexible, but in general I am home all day, with some sort of exercise in the morning that I would be happy to make part of the pet sitting experience, a remote work day wherein I have a lot of freedom to take breaks. I also have a small porch, a medium-sized fenced yard, a larger non-fenced yard, and a beautiful suburban area to walk with nearby parks. I am often away from home for a few hours in the evening, but I am flexible and happy to stay home with an animal if necessary. Flexibility is the name of the game! We live in a very safe area, in a pet-friendly home. It is just my partner and I, two young professionals, in an apartment that regularly hosts animals for boarding. As a previous long-time pet owner and sitter, I am aware of the best practices regarding animal safety (depending on the animal). I prioritize comfort and respect with animals. I think of animals as a member of the family, and will care for their interest and safety as I would a child who was in my care.

About: I work at The Bark Yard, a fear and force free doggy daycare and boarding facility, where I care for dogs daily in a positive, stress-free environment. I’ve grown up with small to extremely large dogs—mainly Boston terriers and Great Pyrenees—and have hands-on experience with feeding, medication routines, enrichment, and reading canine body language. I also personally own and care for a cat, so I’m comfortable providing attentive, gentle care for both dogs and cats. Pet care is already a regular part of my daily and weekly routine. I work hands-on at a doggy daycare and boarding facility, so caring for animals, following schedules, and reading behavior is second nature to me. At home, I care for my own cat with consistent feeding, litter maintenance, playtime, and observation. Because pet care is built into my lifestyle—not something I squeeze in—I’m reliable, attentive, and able to adjust my routine to meet each pet’s needs. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I prioritize safety, trust, and maintaining their normal routine. I carefully follow all written and verbal instructions regarding feeding, medications, walks, and household rules. I respect the pet’s space, read body language, and move at their comfort level—especially for shy or anxious pets. I keep doors, gates, and leashes secure, maintain a clean environment, and leave the home as I found it. My goal is for pets to feel calm, safe, and cared for in their familiar environment.

About: My first job was at Mainely Dog, a doggy daycare where I fed and entertained groups of dogs-all sizes and personalities. I’ve grown up with many dogs in my family. We also fostered and took in dogs with behavioral difficulties, even had up to 5 dogs at once so I’m used to handling multiple dogs at a time! My dream has always been to own my own business to help and love animals. I can’t wait to meet your pups! I currently work a part time job where I work 3-4 days a week from 4:30-10:30 so I am available the rest of those days and my days off. I am attentive and can keep your pets safe whether that’s in your home or outside in the yard. When out on walks, I am skilled at reading your dog and other dog’s ability to interact in a safe environment from my experience at the doggy daycare.
