“I have rebooked with Susan several times for drop in visits. Susan takes great care of my dog and is very reliable. She always leave me detailed notes about the visit with lots of pictures. I can tell my dog likes Susan and her dog a lot. It’s nice that I don’t have to worry about my dog when I’m gone for long periods, having Susan check in on him has been working out great for my dog and me.”

About: I'm a retired officer, background-checked through Rover, and have more than 10 years of experience caring for my own dogs as well as friends', family members', and clients' pets. Throughout my career and personal life, responsibility, trustworthiness, and attention to detail have always been important to me, and I bring those same qualities to every pet I care for. In 2016, I adopted Barney the Shih Tzu, followed by Jack in 2019. Both were estimated to be about four years old at the time. In 2025, Jack passed away from bone cancer, giving me firsthand experience caring for a senior dog with significant medical needs. In 2022, I rescued Penny, the white pup in my profile photo. Certifications & Experience • Cat & Dog First Aid (American Red Cross) • Experience administering oral medications • Experience caring for senior pets and pets with special needs • Experience caring for dogs and cats of various ages, sizes, and temperaments, including a large Rottweiler I believe every pet deserves patience, kindness, consistency, and individualized care. Whether your pet is energetic and playful, senior and slower-paced, or simply happiest sticking to a familiar routine, my goal is to provide dependable care while helping them feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you're away. Pet care is a natural part of my daily routine, and I'm home much of the time. This allows me to provide regular companionship, potty breaks, feeding schedules, walks, playtime, and supervision throughout the day. Because I intentionally limit the number of pets I care for at one time, I am able to provide a more personalized level of attention and maintain a calmer environment for the pets in my care. Whether caring for pets in my home or in a client's home, I strive to maintain their normal routine as closely as possible. Consistency helps pets feel comfortable, secure, and relaxed while their owners are away. My schedule is generally flexible, allowing me to accommodate a variety of care needs, including daycare, overnight care, drop-in visits, and pet sitting in a client's home. Pick-up and drop-off service may be available depending on distance and scheduling. My dogs are part of the family and spend much of their time relaxing near us, on the furniture, or curled up on a lap. Visiting pets are treated with the same level of care, attention, and companionship while in my home. Dogs are welcome on furniture unless owners request otherwise. I intentionally limit the number of guest dogs I accept at one time to help create a calm, safe, and low-stress environment. This allows me to provide close supervision and a more personalized experience than many high-volume pet care settings. If you prefer your dog to be crated for sleeping, feeding, or when unattended, I'm happy to accommodate as long as a crate is provided. Visiting dogs should be reasonably housebroken, with exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis for puppies and special circumstances. Meet-and-greets are strongly preferred whenever possible before services begin. They allow me to learn about your pet's personality, needs, and comfort level while helping determine whether my home and care style are a good fit. When caring for pets in a client's home, I respect both the pet's routine and the owner's home, providing dependable care, companionship, exercise, and attentive supervision. I believe every pet deserves patience, kindness, consistency, and respect. My goal is to provide a safe, comfortable environment where pets can feel relaxed, secure, and well cared for while their owners are away.

About: We have a busy, loving home with 3 kids, one cat, & two dogs. If your dog loves to be with a busy family, we're the right place for you. I have many years of pet care experience including veterinary care and dog training experience (specifically, I've trained my own dogs through the Petsmart dog training program and passed the Canine Good Citizen test). I'm very comfortable around all types of dogs and animals. I've always treated my pets as part of our family and would always treat any animal in my care with the same devotion. We have three kids (ages 14-16) and they are all used to animals and they are very caring and love to play with all the dogs when they come home from school. The cats can easily avoid the dogs if they want to as they have their own outdoor catio and room. We keep our air conditioner on for our dog already during hot days so any dogs with thick fur will feel very comfortable. There's no carpet in our house so potty issues are easier to manage as well. I work from home, so other than errands or short outings the dogs have someone home with them nearly all the time. We have a gated kitchen so dogs can be separated if needed. We have a large fenced yard with a covered patio and when it’s too hot to be outside, the dogs are in the air conditioned house with us.

After only two visits, Teddy was already on his back asking her for belly rubs, which he NEVER does with strangers. That alone says how comfortable and safe he felt with her. I’d absolutely book Emily again and highly recommend her! ❤️🐾”

About: I’ve been surrounded by dogs my whole life. Growing up, I even cared for four dogs at once from puppies to adults so I understand the different needs at every stage of life. From feeding and walks to playtime and even bath time, I’ve always been hands on and attentive. What makes my home unique is the genuine love we have for dogs. My children don’t have pets of their own (just stuffed animal pups!), but they adore dogs and treat every furry guest with kindness and care. With me, your dog will not only be safe, but also feel like part of a warm, loving family. I work from home as a freelancer, which means I have a flexible schedule and plenty of time to give your dog attention throughout the day. I truly enjoy going for walks, so daily exercise and outdoor time naturally fit into my routine. Caring for dogs isn’t just something I add on it blends seamlessly into my everyday life. I provide care in my own home, which is a pet-friendly apartment. There’s a safe walking trail right by my building and a park just across the street where dogs can enjoy walks, fresh air, and playtime with me. Inside, pups are welcome in the living areas and always supervised. I make sure they get regular walks, play sessions, and plenty of love so they feel comfortable and happy throughout the day.

About: I am an insured pet care professional, and I bring the same kindness and thoughtfulness I would want someone to show my own pet. What sets me apart is that I’m dependable, attentive, and very detail-oriented. I take the time to learn each pet’s personality and routine, carefully follow your instructions, and keep you updated with plenty of photos and notes. My goal is simple: to help your pet feel safe, comfortable, loved, and genuinely well cared for whenever they’re with me. I cared for my own dog, Charlotte, for 10 years—from her puppy stage through her senior years—so I understand how much a dog’s needs can change over time. My experience with puppies began even earlier, when a neighbor who bred dogs trusted me to help care for her newborn litters. I understand the patience, consistency, and routine puppies need, including reinforcement of potty training, basic commands, leash manners, and good habits. I also know that senior dogs may need slower walks, extra time, and someone who pays attention to the little changes. I'm currently working part-time, so I will have the flexibility to walk your pet or drop in for your pet during the day while you are away. Looking forward to new clients! I currently provide care in my clients’ homes, where pets can remain comfortable in their familiar surroundings and routines. I carefully follow each owner’s instructions for walks, meals, playtime, potty breaks, and companionship. I take time to learn each pet’s personality, preferences, and needs, keep their space tidy, and send photos and written updates after every visit. All dog walks are private and on leash. At this time, I do not offer care in my own home, overnight stays, transportation, or medication administration.

About: I am a dog lover and fiber artist who works from our currently petless home. Our beloved Chu-chan (who I often used as a model for my tapestries) passed a few years ago. My high school teacher husband, Dennis, and I miss her lots and would be happy to care for your dear house trained over 2 year old pup while you are away. Doggies must be up to date on their shots, on a flea prevention regimen, NOT use 'pee pads' inside the house, wear dog tags (whether or not they have a chip), and, especially, be able to sleep on their own in the living room. We prefer dogs under 40 pounds but larger, mellow dogs might also be workable. Pup can hang with me as I weave in my studio or have free rein of the fenced back yard. I'm happy to take breaks during the day for puppy walks. We are conveniently located in Walnut Creek near the Iron Horse Trail and can walk or drive to the Heather Farm Dog Park. Various open space trails are also a short drive away. Currently we do not have any animals living with us- just my husband and I- and are happy to host yours. Our fee, before Rover's add-on charges, per 24 hrs. is $50 ($60 holidays) if your dog can be with other dogs- we like to have 2 to 3 dogs at a time. Please be aware that Rover does add additional fees- the number you see listed on the site is the total per day fee. If your pup does not get on well with other dogs and needs to be the only 4 legger around the fee is $150 per 24 hours if we can accommodate you. In addition to overnight boarding we accept dogs for daycare in our home. For daycare during the daytime our fee is $45 or $50 during holidays- again, Rover tacks fees on so check to total price on the website. Please identify any food bowls you bring with your dog's name on them and know that we don't guarantee that any toys you bring will not be damaged ;) Please check the calendar for availability as I might be away leading trips to Guatemala to explore the Mayan Textile Culture or in Japan showing my artwork**. I also speak Japanese and Spanish ** Even if the calendar says unavailable please feel free to send an inquiry as we might be able to accomodate you depending on the timing of drop off and pick up. I work from home and am almost always there. Happy to have doggies around when I work and also happy to let them out into the fenced backyard when they desire.

About: Dogs have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I have years of hands on experience caring for dogs. I own and participate in IGP sport (Schutzhund). I provide calm and reliable care. My goal is for every pet to feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while you’re away, and for every owner to have complete peace of mind. Pet care is a big part of my daily routine. I have three dogs, so I’m very comfortable with consistent schedules, feeding, exercise, training, enrichment, and keeping a clean and organized environment. I prioritize their physical and mental well-being every day, with dedicated time for walks, training, play, and individual attention. I also have experience caring for other dogs through my home-based boarding business, so I’m comfortable managing different routines, personalities, and care needs while maintaining a safe, structured environment. I provide a safe, structured, and individualized approach to pet care. In my home, I keep dogs separated from my own pets as needed, follow their normal feeding and medication routines, and provide regular potty breaks, walks, play, and one-on-one attention. I do not use unsupervised group play. When caring for a client’s pet, I follow their instructions closely and maintain their usual routine as much as possible. I’m attentive to behavior, comfort, safety, and any changes in appetite, energy, or bathroom habits, and I communicate with the owner throughout the stay so they know how their pet is doing.

About: My life has always been my dogs. I have been taking care of dogs and other pets my entire life and it's truly my life's purpose. I have experience with all breeds especially elderly chihuahuas and timid breeds. No breed is too difficult for me. I have experience with rescuing and fostering for the past 15 years as well as volunteering at shelters. I've been exposed to all different backgrounds, personalities, sizes and breeds. No matter what all dogs are good dogs it's just matter of giving them the attention they need and that's what I'm here to help you with! I'm an avid hiker and walker for my two boys and will customize play time and amount of exercise to your baby. I'll make sure you get pictures and updates and can promise I'll do anything to make sure you furry child has a doggone good time! I have a flexible schedule currently and will be attending school in the spring. At the moment I am available mostly between 11am-10 pm Monday-Saturday. I can do mornings on occasion or Sundays if necessary. Don't hesitate to ask and I will always see what I can do. My dogs get fed twice a day and get their preferred treats. They get daily walks and 2-3 hiking adventures a week. They are very different temperaments and energy so I am used to tailoring their exercise routine accordingly. I will care for your pets in a similar way or as needed and agreed upon during our communications. I am very in tune and attentive to what your pets needs are. I will respect the rules set forth by the client and most importantly make sure your pet is cared for and truly enjoyed their time. I will always do my best to leave your loved one in a better state than when I arrived making sure all their needs are met including any meds, feeding, treats, water and waste removal and exercise. If you have special requests please let me know.

About: No walk is too long with a four-legged companion! I've raised and walked dogs since they were puppies to "mature" adults. Also, dealt with large dogs with aggressive tendencies. I am currently a self-employed chef, so I have the freedom to make my own schedule. I can almost always be available with one day's notice. I love playing with dogs in their own yards and or homes. It shows you a whole other side of them. And, of course, feeding time is the way to any dog's heart! (or human) I am living in a 2-bedroom apartment so large dogs are not preferred. However, I have had large dog sleepovers with no problems. Just lots of walks! :)

About: Every walk is a new experience for a dog, even if it's in familiar territory, and I enjoy helping a dog to have a great one. I have taken care of dogs for family and friends for 30+ years and walked them in a professional sense for five. A few of the settings I've enjoyed with dogs are parks, beaches, forests, downtowns, and suburban areas. For most of the year, I am available: Monday morning & evening; Tuesday morning & evening; Wednesday thru Friday mornings only; Saturday most of day; Sunday all day. In a client's home, I will follow the directions of the pet parent and leave it as I found it, as well as making sure the property is secure.

About: Hi there! I have taken care of 5+ different families pets that include dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, etc! I love taking care of dogs & cats especially and have experience in pets of all ages. I also have experience in emergency situations with elderly pets, that called for immediate vet attention, puppy emergencies of all sorts, and even reactive pets. I develop a deep care for animals and prioritize learning each and every pets personality and needs. My professional work consists of freelance work, so in between I love to surround myself with animals and nature. A lot of the time my freelance work is done from my computer. To balance that out, I frequently go out into nature as part of my routine when time allows so for those who have pets who need outdoor time, I'm a great fit for you! As long as I have my cup of joe, and my laptop I'm a pretty easy going person! My approach to taking care and building a trusting relationship with your pet would focus on prioritizing their needs by learning their personalities. Some pets who have separation anxiety require a lot of affection, some who are high energy require a bit more exercise, and some who need mental stimulation just need exposure to different smells or visual stimulation! It just depends on what your pet needs.

FAQs for Pet Sitting - Contra Costa Centre

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.

Before booking, confirm:

  • the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
  • the care instructions the sitter should follow;
  • which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
  • how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.

Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.

Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.

During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
