“Laina was an excellent caretaker for Cooper. Cooper has lots of anxiety and needs lots of patience which Laina was able to provide. She had great communication the whole time and made me feel comfortable Cooper was cared for. As difficult as Cooper can be to handle she was able to do it. I would happily recommend Laina to anyone who wants their dog cared for properly for their specific needs. She even got Cooper to feel comfortable enough to lick her hand which is not like him with new people. Great communication, great care, ten out of ten experience, by far the best I could’ve hired. Thank you so much Laina!”

“Natasha was a dream petsitter. Easy communication, positive vibes, and clearly competent with the dog/cats. She’s quick to respond, very communicative, sends tons of pictures, and responsible. I would recommend her to anybody looking to make your vacation as stress free as possible. Thank you Natasha!”

“I can't imagine a better pet/house sitter. The cats are often either especially needy or even standoffish when I come back from a trip but this time they treated me like I'd just gone for a walk, fell back into their usual routine, which is exactly what you want. Summer left the house better than when I handed it to her, had extra sheets washed etc etc. Over and above.”

About: I grew up with dogs as family pets and have always considered myself a “dog person.” My family had a sheepdog, a black lab, and a Scottish sheepdog, which helped shape my lifelong love for animals. About 30 years ago, I met my wife, a true cat person through and through, and over time I happily transitioned into becoming a devoted cat lover as well. Over the years, my wife and I have shared life with three cats, even taking them on leash walks around the neighborhood—yes, I am proudly that person now. Bella, my 18-year-old super senior cat, just lost her struggle with kidney disease and we miss her dearly. My wife and I spoil our animals all the time. Our cats have always been like children to us and the bonds we build with our animals over the years have been deeply meaningful. I believe animals teach unconditional love, friendship, and have a beautiful way of offering comfort exactly when it’s needed most. In addition to caring for my own pets, I have spent years looking after neighbors’ chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats, hamsters, and even a rat! After 13 years of teaching English at a nearby Early College, I recently retired from education and am excited to begin this new chapter with Rover. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. When I am not caring for animals, I run a professional mountain biking guide service in Asheville called Pisgah Mountain Bike Adventures. With more than 40 years of passion for mountain biking, being outdoors and in the mountains is where I feel most at home. I also run an Airbnb in our finished basement and I am currently writing a memoir. I am excited to be part of the Rover team and I look forward to caring for your dog, cat, or other beloved pet with the same level of attentiveness and heart that I have given to everything in my life. I am all in. I am excited to continue growing with Rover and embrace this new direction in my life with enthusiasm and hope, proving it’s never too late to follow a new calling! I am available 7 days a week for dog walks, overnight care, drop in visits, pet transport and housesitting. I am pet first aide and CPR certified and ready to help care for your fur babies anytime. I will board your dog or cat in my home or yours. I am an outdoor enthusiast, so will provide outdoor enrichment, long walks and various activities like playing fetch in the park or snuggles and extra 1 on 1 time for your pet. As a retired teacher, I bring professional level customer service, reliablity and professional pet care for you and your fur babies. I am very flexible with scheduling. Your pet or house is in good hands, leaving you free to go about your day and not worry about your home or fur babies. Thanks for trusting in menfor your pet and houshold needs.

“Ana did an absolutely amazing job! I will use her in the future and I would recommend her to anyone. She gave incredible updates and she totally blew me away with her communication and dedication to my animals.”

“Kiera was excellent with my Teddy! She sent pics and updates while I was away which helped ease my nerves about leaving him home. I can’t thank her enough, and I will DEFINITELY book with her again.”

“Shannon did a great job housesitting for our dog! She was very communicative and left the house so clean, which we really appreciated. She was very flexible when our flight home was delayed a few hours and made sure our dog was well cared for. She also gave our dog his meds (he had a rash from allergic reaction) and updated us on how the rash was looking. We would definitely use her again!”

“Caitlin was wonderful. She was on time for a meet and greet, and after going over everything, we booked her for a vacation coming up. At the last minute, we needed Caitlin to spend the evening with Luna because our dog was adjusting to losing her companion and changing locations, and we were going out with friends all day and then again all evening. Luna was very chill when we got home late. I look forward to a stress-free vacation knowing that Luna is in good hands with Caitlin.”

“Alex is the best house/dog sitter ever. He loves animals and took exceptional care of our two loony German Shepherd puppies. He also is a perfect gentleman and we returned to a tidy house. Such a pleasant surprise. We will definitely use him again”

“Ashley was absolutely amazing! Her communication was excellent—she sent us videos and photos where our dogs looked so relaxed and happy, just as if we were there with them. She left our home spotless and even surprised us with sweet cookies to welcome us back. It truly gave us peace of mind to relax and enjoy our vacation, knowing our pups and our home were in such great hands. We’ve already raved about her to friends and family, and we’ll definitely be repeat clients!”

“Juliann was fantastic with our pets and our home! She took excellent care of all four pets and was great about sending pictures and updates. And the pets LOVED her! We will definitely be calling on her again!”

“Thyra was awesome with my dogs! I could tell she spent a lot of time focused on them and she left my house cleaner than she found it. Sent lots of photos/updates too. :)”

“Giuliana was very professional and upfront about questions and requirements. My dogs and home were very well cared for. Giuliana provided regular updates and pictures to keep us connected during the week.”

“Our experience with Constance was one of the best we had with Rover! Our dog is very nervous around new people. Our dog was particularly scared this time, we are unsure why. But Constance was extremely kind and patience with our dog. Our dog came around fast and was fast friends with Constance after all. She went above and beyond!”

About: I have been taking care of other people's animals since middle school and just love getting to know your pets! Experience with dogs, cats, horses, chickens, goats, and fish! Willing to take on pets with medical needs! I work 40 hours over 5 days days a week. I am typically away from the house from 9 am - 5 pm or 11 am - 7 pm. Depending on your location, I may be able to pop back to the house on my short lunch break. I am comfortable walking your animals on leashes, pushing them in strollers, using a treadmill, playing with them in the yard, or whatever else is your routine and preference!
About: I’ve had dogs in my life for as long as I can remember and have years of experience caring for them through every stage of life. Today, my wife and I care for our Australian Cattle Dog, Dakota, whom we adopted when she was a year old. Training Dakota has given me valuable experience in understanding canine body language, behavior, and communication. I’ve learned how to recognize signs of stress, excitement, fear, and overstimulation, and how to respond in a calm, positive way to help dogs feel safe and comfortable. Whether we’re out on walks, visiting public places, or relaxing at home, I’m always attentive to a dog’s needs and surroundings. I’m comfortable following feeding schedules, administering basic care, maintaining routines, providing exercise and enrichment, and giving each dog the patience and attention they deserve. Every dog has a unique personality, and I enjoy getting to know what makes each one feel happy, secure, and loved. Above all, I believe every pet should be treated with the same care, respect, and affection that I’d want for my own! I’m currently a full-time online student and teach online part-time, so I will have plenty of time to play with your pup! I can build my own schedule, so I'm fully available. I believe pets are happiest when they can stay in the comfort of their own home and follow their normal routine. My goal is to provide dependable, personalized care that helps them feel safe, relaxed, and loved while you’re away. I’ll carefully follow your instructions for feeding, potty breaks, walks, medications (if needed), playtime, and any other routines that are important to your pet. I pay close attention to body language and behavior so I can make sure your dog is comfortable and enjoying our time together. Whether I’m stopping by for a visit, taking your dog on a walk, or staying in your home, I’ll treat your pet with patience, kindness, and the same level of care and attention I’d want for my own. I’ll also keep you updated with messages and photos, so you can have peace of mind knowing your furry family member is in good hands.
About: I've grown up with several cats. My best friend and the love of my life is a tabby cat I've had since I was 12 years old. I didn't have a dog growing up but I frequently cared for my neighbors Great Pyrenees. My first dog as an adult was a rescue coonhound mix and my current dog is a purebred Redbone Coonhound. I live in an apartment with 2 cats and a dog. I work part time at Food Lion, but I'm wanting to be a full-time pet sitter. Humans are too complicated for me. Plus it gives me the opportunity to spend more time with my dog! I live in an apartment but I'm very active. I utilize all the trails and parks in the area and I bring along my buddy Cheeto, a foster Redbone Coonhound who loves other dogs, as well as my new puppy!
“Theresa was so wonderful while she watched our pups on my most recent trip. She was friendly, responsive, and loving to our pups. She sent updates and pictures which I so appreciated. Would absolutely recommend Theresa and will be asking her to sit again!”

“Casey was a great sitter! She was very communicative, and most importantly, our dogs seemed super relaxed when we came home. It was clear she had spent a lot of time with them and made them feel cared for and loved. We will definitely use her again!”

“Jeni was great! Super thorough on the front end of making sure everything was set before she arrived. She was detailed in asking me questions to prepare her to stay with my dogs that I hadn't even thought of. Jeni was very professional and dealt with issues as they arose. 10/10 recommend.”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Black Mountain walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Black Mountain maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Black Mountain choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Black Mountain. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
