“Lydia was a fab sitter for Vinnie. Very attentive and he felt very comfortable with her. She gave us lots of pupdates which helped us feel at ease. We will ask her to look after Vinnie again in the future! Thanks Lydia!”

“Jodie was a fantastic sitter! She left our house spotless and we came back to a very happy cat. We really appreciated her updates and felt at ease whilst we were away knowing Humphrey was in her care.”

“Agnes looked after my English Bulldog Hugo for two nights and I couldn’t have been happier with the care she gave him! From the very beginning, she was fantastic to communicate with and asked lots of thoughtful questions, which really showed she had taken the time to understand Hugo’s needs and routine. While I was away, she sent plenty of lovely updates and photos, which gave me complete peace of mind and made it so much easier to relax knowing he was in such good hands. When I got home, the house was absolutely spotless too, which was a lovely bonus! I wouldn’t hesitate to book Agnes again and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone caring, reliable and attentive to look after their pet!”

About: I have my own family Cockapoo, Oscar, who is 12 years old. We go on daily walks together through the nearby fields and villages. I also grew up with two cats, so I have experience caring for both dogs and cats. I understand how important it is for pets to feel loved, cared for and comfortable, and I would always treat them as if they were my own. I work fully remotely, so I’m able to be at home with pets throughout the day if needed. My schedule is very flexible, and as I manage my own time, I can easily fit walks, feeding and plenty of attention around my work. I care for pets with the same love, attention and patience I would give my own. I’m happy to follow their usual routines, including feeding, walks, playtime and plenty of company. I’ll also make sure they feel comfortable and settled in their home, while keeping owners updated so they know their pets are happy and well cared for.
“Alex is an absolute superstar! Put our slightly nervous 10 month old puppy totally at ease, which allowed us to have some much needed family time out. Could not recommend her highly enough!”

“Bethany looked after our cat, Winnie, in our home for five days, and she was absolutely fantastic! From the start, we felt completely at ease leaving Winnie in her care. She looked after Winnie so well, making sure she was happy, fed, and getting plenty of attention. Kept us updated while we were away. On top of being great with Winnie, Bethany left the flat tidy and clean, which we deeply appreciated coming home to. She is reliable, respectful, and a true professional. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for a cat sitter!”

“James was excellent! He went above and beyond ensuring my pup was cared for the way I wanted. He kept me updated the entire weekend. Highly recommended. I have already rebooked him for my next trip and will continue to use him as long as he is available.”
“Helen has been a huge hit with our dog …and us! She is obviously very experienced and coped with everything excellently. Helen was very respectful of our home on her stay for 5 days while we were abroad. She kept us up to date with lots of photos and kept the dog immensely entertained with walks, toys, new experiences and places! Have booked to use Helen again as we were so impressed.”

About: I've always had cats and dogs from a young age. Our family have rescued a greyhound and husky over the years and know firsthand the amount of unconditional love that these animals can give you. I have experience with big dogs and little dogs and appreciate that all dogs have different temperaments. I want to get to know your dog as if it was my own and give it the love that it deserves! I can walk your pooch in the mornings and evenings and weekends. I've dogsat for people in the past and am able to do this but the current rescue we have is not good with other dogs so it would have to be at your house. I work from home with a flexible schedule so I'm always on hand to provide walks and pets! I'll schedule work around any additional needs your pet may have too. I also know the art of emailing with one hand and petting with the other! I know the importance of routine and respecting the boundaries of each pet as an individual. I'll get to know your pet in their own environment and make sure they feel safe and secure with their comforta.
About: I have chosen to be a pet sitter as I am now retired & have lots of time on my hands and a lot of love to give. I have had cats and dogs all of my life right from when I was a child. I recently lost my cat at the grand age of 20 and am lost without a pet to care for. I would love to board a cat or dog on a short-term basis. I am a kind caring lady who has a lot of love and affection to give to anyone’s pet. I currently work as a home help 3 days a week. The longest I’m away from the house is about 2 1/2 hours at a time! So I’m around most of the time. I live in a lovely 100 year-old cottage that is very spacious - I’m happy for cats to have the run of the whole house ! I also have a lovely garden which is very secluded and quiet. I have plenty of time for affection & love!
“Sherry was great - Flo had a wonderful time on walks and chilling in the garden and on the sofa. Sherry also kindly watered my plants and left the place clean and tidy with sheets and towels washed for me! Thoroughly recommend and will use again.”

“Pedro was wonderful. He took care of our rambunctious and sometimes challenging young Labrador for a week and a half and when we came back she was happy, knew some new commands, relaxed and was clearly very well taken care of. He sent us daily updates, photos and videos. I will absolutely be requesting him again if we have another holiday.”

“Julie took wonderful care of my two spoiled dogs and looked after our home like it was her own, even surprising me with some beautiful tulips for our return. I certainly recommend her and hope Julie comes to watch over our dogs again soon. Truly professional.”

“We had Ryan over to look after Whiskey for 2 days while we were away. He was responsible, caring and had a good understanding of Whiskey’s behaviour. Kept us constantly updated with how they were doing through messages and pictures. 🙂”

About: Antonia and I are both dog lovers looking for extra company on walks and in the holidays. I have had 2 Border Collies growing up as a child, one of which my parents still have now called Lily. I helped to train her from a pup, and have confidence with helping other dogs recall. I was also on borrow my doggie looking after other people dogs which have varied in size, breed and one had a disability. This went well and kept me busy in the school holidays however it was only a voluntary role. I am a teacher therefore will be busy on most days from 7am to 4:30pm School holidays or weekends would be a great time to care for your dog I have a fenced garden which is secure. Opposite the house there is a large green and small forest perfect for walks. In the house the dogs will be cared for as you wish. We are happy to have the dogs on the sofa and upstairs or in a crate if you prefer We often look after my mums dog so there are treats and toys in the house already
About: Over the years, I’ve been extremely lucky to be trusted to care for friends’ and family members’ dogs while they’re at work, away for weekends, or on holiday. I’ve looked after a variety of breeds, including Labradors, Shiba Inus, and mixed breeds, and I understand that every dog has their own unique personality and needs. Some dogs are happiest relaxing quietly, others love long walks, some enjoy hours of belly rubs, and others just want to play and cuddle. I take the time to really listen to owners and learn about each dog’s routine, preferences, and personality, which helps me provide care that feels familiar and comfortable for them. This individual approach is what has led to trusted, ongoing dog-sitting relationships. I truly believe no two dogs are ever the same, and I care for each one as if they were my own. I currently work full-time Monday to Friday, but I’m available for local walks or drop-ins during my lunch breaks. With notice, I’m also available from Friday evening through to Sunday evening, to help care for your pets. I’m reliable, organised, and happy to plan ahead to make sure your pet’s needs fit comfortably into my routine. I had my cat Gizzy for 8 years in our 3-bedroom home, where she was free to roam and enjoy our large, fully fenced garden. She loved spending hours basking in the sun on our decking during the spring and summer months. Inside, she had full access to furniture and especially loved relaxing on the sofa. When caring for friends’ or neighbours’ pets, I follow their instructions carefully and respect their home and routines. I’m often entrusted with a key and any special requirements their pets may have. I prioritise safety, comfort, and creating a loving environment so every pet feels secure, happy, and well cared for while in my care.

About: I’ve grown up surrounded by animals my whole life — dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and even the occasional rescue. Caring for pets has always come naturally to me, and I’ve always been the first person friends and family trusted to look after their pets whenever they travelled or needed help. I also have a rescue dog of my own, so I understand the patience, gentleness, and consistency that some pets need to feel safe and comfortable. This experience helps me connect quickly with nervous, shy, or sensitive animals. I’m DBS‑checked and pet first aid certified, and I take pride in offering calm, reliable, and loving care. Whether it’s drop‑in visits, feeding, companionship, or longer overnight stays, I treat every pet as if they were my own — with kindness, routine, and genuine affection. I’m available throughout the week, so I can plan my days around the needs of the pets I’m caring for. I don’t currently offer standalone dog walking, but I’m always happy to walk dogs as part of an overnight stay or longer pet‑sitting booking. Having a flexible schedule means I can give pets plenty of attention, keep to their routines, and make sure they feel safe and comfortable while their owners are away. I care for pets in their owner’s home, where they feel most comfortable and secure. I follow each pet’s normal routine as closely as possible such as feeding times, walks (if part of a pet‑sitting stay), playtime, and any little habits that help them feel relaxed. For drop‑in visits, I make sure pets are fed, have fresh water, get some company and playtime, and I always send updates and photos so owners know how their pet is doing. During overnight or longer pet‑sitting stays, I stay in the home to keep pets in their familiar environment. I keep the house tidy, maintain their routine, and give them plenty of attention and reassurance. I don’t offer boarding in my own home, and I don’t provide standalone dog walking but I’m always happy to walk dogs as part of a pet‑sitting booking.

We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter for our German Shepherd, Max. Lydia took exceptional care of him and kept us updated throughout our 10 days away with regular messages and photos, which gave us real peace of mind. It was clear that Max had a fantastic time and was treated with great care. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lydia to anyone looking for a caring and reliable dog sitter.

Lucia took great care of our two dogs and was wonderful in adapting to their needs and personalities. Our little dachshund can be shy and a bit anxious and Lucia gave her space and was very gentle with her. Our rescue dog loved Lucia who gave her lots of attention and treats. Loved all the cute pics and updates during the stay as it put our mind at ease!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Stevenage choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 89% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
