“Last week, we entrusted our beloved Golden Retriever to Alex for a week, and we couldn’t have been happier with the care she provided! As it was the first time we had left our dog with anyone other than family, we were a little nervous. However, Alex immediately put our minds at ease with her professionalism, kindness, and her very calm nature. From the start, Alex was incredibly responsive and attentive. She was keen to understand and adapt to our dog’s routine, which she did quickly, making sure he felt comfortable and at ease during her stay. What really stood out to us were the daily updates she sent each evening—pictures and little anecdotes showing how much fun he was having. It was such a relief to see him so happy and relaxed! We could tell that Alex truly loves dogs and is dedicated to providing a safe, loving environment. We’ll definitely be asking Alex to care for our dog again in the future and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring pet sitter! Thank you, Alex, for giving us peace of mind and treating our dog and home like they were your own!”

“Jessie-Lyn stayed at our house for a week to look after our 2 cats. We have 2 cats that hate each other and must be kept apart both inside and out, so it was no easy task for her, especially with one cat that doesnt like strangers. She has done an amazing job. Both cats were well fed, looked after and indeed kept apart. The house was also absolutely spotless when we got back Would definitely use Jessie-Lyn again and would also recommend her to others”

Currently have Cookie, a toy poodle who is the chillest dog in the world. Cat experience - Had a cat called Kitty that appeared in my room when I came back from uni one Christmas, loved her to pieces. Pride myself in sharing the laid back caring attitude with pets of all size. I'm currently working at home full time and have availability all the time to help when needed! I'm always at home spending time with Cookie. He loves it when family and friends come to visit for the day or weeks! Stay in a 4 bedroom house, giving ample space for your bundle of joys. “Absolutely fantastic!! Krystal was great, kept me updated throughout her stay with videos and photos of Kai. Left the house as she found it and was a pleasure to deal with. Would highly recommend!”

“Lydia was fantastic looking after our dog Marshall. She was very conscientious and did everything we asked, while Marshall very much enjoyed her staying too! We would definitely book Lydia again!”

“Vilte has been amazing at looking after Smoulder. She got along well with the other pets at home too and we couldn't be happier having picked her to look after our little family. She's been very professional and active in sending photos with updates, so I was always aware of how my pets are. At the end of the day, I came home to a happy puppy and kitty, so I know they were well looked after.”

“I’ve never used a house sitter before and was nervous, but Cheryl was brilliant. Lots of communication & our dog absolutely loved her, would happily rebook again.”

About: I’m a pet sister from Hong Kong, now living in the UK for the third year. I moved here with my four cats, who are now 6 to 7 years old. After settling down, I adopted a 1.5-year-old Border Collie. I truly love all my pets—they’re my family. Pet care is a big part of my daily life—it’s not just a job, it’s something I truly enjoy. Every day, I plan my schedule around the needs of the pets I care for, whether it’s morning and evening drop-in visits, regular walks, or spending quality time with my own pets at home. I make sure to stay organized so that each pet receives the attention, exercise, and care they need. Being around animals brings me joy and keeps me active, so I always look forward to every visit or walk. When providing drop-in visits or dog walking services, I always make sure pets feel safe, loved, and respected in their own environment. I carefully follow each owner’s instructions, whether it’s feeding, cleaning, giving medication, or following a specific walking route or routine. I take time to build trust with each pet, using calm energy and gentle care so they feel comfortable around me. During walks, I stay alert and prioritize their safety at all times—avoiding busy roads, checking their body language, and ensuring they’re always on-leash unless instructed otherwise. I treat every pet like family, and always keep owners updated with messages and photos so they know their furry friend is in good hands.
“Sonia was amazing with our little Oscar! Not only taking extreme good care of our old boy, but also sending us little videos with updates regularly! We know Oscar was very well looked after and loved the cuddles with Sonia! Thank you so much xx”

“Jodie was excellent with our dog. He is a new -ish rescue and a bit barky - she was kind and patient with him, stayed in our house and kept us updated during the trip. She communicated very promptly and was professional throughout - thanks so much Jodie!!”

“So pleased Alex was available for our repeat booking- she’s SO great at sending us updates and Bertie loves her. Was sleeping belly-up less than 30 mins after we left!”

“Megan is absolutely fantastic! She’s a lovely, caring person and follows instruction well when house sitting. She was gentle and considerate of our dog, Mitzy and two Guinea Pigs. 10/10 recommend, will definitely use again! Thank you 🥰 xx”

“Charlotte was wonderful with our little cat Peach. She took the time to sit with her in her favourite spots in the sun and made sure to give her quality playtime over the 4 day period she spent at our home. About: I’ve grown up surrounded by animals my whole life — dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and even the occasional rescue. Caring for pets has always come naturally to me, and I’ve always been the first person friends and family trusted to look after their pets whenever they travelled or needed help. I also have a rescue dog of my own, so I understand the patience, gentleness, and consistency that some pets need to feel safe and comfortable. This experience helps me connect quickly with nervous, shy, or sensitive animals. I’m DBS‑checked and pet first aid certified, and I take pride in offering calm, reliable, and loving care. Whether it’s drop‑in visits, feeding, companionship, or longer overnight stays, I treat every pet as if they were my own — with kindness, routine, and genuine affection. I’m available throughout the week, so I can plan my days around the needs of the pets I’m caring for. I don’t currently offer standalone dog walking, but I’m always happy to walk dogs as part of an overnight stay or longer pet‑sitting booking. Having a flexible schedule means I can give pets plenty of attention, keep to their routines, and make sure they feel safe and comfortable while their owners are away. I care for pets in their owner’s home, where they feel most comfortable and secure. I follow each pet’s normal routine as closely as possible such as feeding times, walks (if part of a pet‑sitting stay), playtime, and any little habits that help them feel relaxed. For drop‑in visits, I make sure pets are fed, have fresh water, get some company and playtime, and I always send updates and photos so owners know how their pet is doing. During overnight or longer pet‑sitting stays, I stay in the home to keep pets in their familiar environment. I keep the house tidy, maintain their routine, and give them plenty of attention and reassurance. I don’t offer boarding in my own home, and I don’t provide standalone dog walking but I’m always happy to walk dogs as part of a pet‑sitting booking.

Alex looked after our dog Barley for the day during the recent heatwave. She was great with him and we were so happy to leave him in her capable hands. Alex is so calm and knowledgeable. We'll definitely be booking Alex in for dog sitting again - Barley will be thrilled!
Louise did a fantastic job taking care of our dog when we were on holiday for a week. She came over before the sit to meet Henry and chat about the sit. As time got closer she reached out to get information about Henry’s routine and was very thorough in making sure she understood my notes. She came over the day we left and we went over last minute details. We felt very safe knowing she was taking care of him. While we were away, she kept us updated with pictures and comments on the day they had. Henry really took to her and looked like he was having a great time! When we had gotten home, Louise had cleaned the house and left it better then when she arrived. Amazing job, we would love to have her back!

We are very pleased we have found Vilte. She has done a brilliant job looking after our dog. She has updated us daily by messages and photos of the dog. She has stayed in our house for 5 nights and left the house super clean. Would recommend and will book Vilte again in the future.

Charlotte was wonderful with our little cat Peach. She took the time to sit with her in her favourite spots in the sun and made sure to give her quality playtime over the 4 day period she spent at our home. We really appreciated the extra care and attention and will be rebooking without a doubt. :)

Anna was amazing! Our doggie Ivy is a super nervous and reactive dog and Anna managed Ivy to open up to her and show her soft side during the dog sit. Before booking started Anna came around twice to discuss any questions, learn about Ivy etc. Anna was super friendly, professional and sent loads of pictures while we were away. Hope Ivy has plenty more dog sits with Anna! Thank you 😊

I was looking for someone who could help with all my animals while my husband and I was away. This would be the first time we had left them with a non family member so I was a bit worried at first of finding the right person. I came across Laura and after meeting her, I was happy that she was able to help with my animals. We kept in touch finalising details. She was very attentive to all there needs and was very patient with them especially Ronni who is a bit of a spoilt girl and likes things her way ! We touched base every day and Laura would send me daily pictures of there walks and snuggles which definitely made me feel happier about leaving them. I’m so glad that I came across Laura. I would definitely use Laura in the future. Thankyou so much for the care and love you gave them x

Ilinca and her sister were great with Troy and Penny. It was Pennys first time as a 5 month old puppy being left overnight with dog sitters and they were great with her. The dogs got loads of exercise and love, and we were kept very well updated. Our house was very well looked after too. Would definitely recommend and happily have back.

Ross was fantastic, he came for a meet and greet first which meant by the time he was here to sit Bernie, he’d warmed straight up to him. You can so clearly see Ross sits dogs because he loves them. Lots of play and lots of cuddles, would definitely recommend ☺️

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best time to agree on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a 'home cheat sheet' that includes your preferred North Hertfordshire walking routes, the location of your favourite pet shop, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in North Hertfordshire choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 87% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
