I am so relieved to have found James to look after my Jack Russell, Jasper, for me. James is a very calm and gentle person and was amazing with Jasper. He also looked after the house beautifully and kept it pristine. My tomatoes were lovingly watered and are thriving too. Travelling next time will not be stressful knowing that I can count on James.

About: Hi, I’m a second-year undergraduate student studying Zoo Biology and Animal Science, with a Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management. I’m passionate about animal welfare and have experience working with a wide range of species, breeds, temperaments, and behavioural needs. I’m confident caring for both dogs and cats of all ages, from energetic puppies and kittens needing patience, routine, and basic training reinforcement, to senior pets who may require medication, gentle handling, or extra support. I understand how important it is to maintain a pet’s normal routine, so I’m happy to follow feeding schedules, exercise plans, enrichment activities, and any specific care instructions closely. Having worked with animals in both practical and educational settings, I’m comfortable with nervous, shy, reactive, or high-energy pets and always aim to create a calm, safe, and positive environment for them. I’m reliable, attentive, and genuinely love spending time with animals, making sure they feel happy, comfortable, and well cared for while you’re away. Your pet’s wellbeing and happiness will always be my top priority I study from home and am currently working on a research project/ dissertation for ky final year at university. This means I am completely open and have no set schedule, flexibility is key. I have qualifications in animal handling and I will always put animals first. My home is safe and so is your fur baby.i have a dog of my own, a little 4yr dachshund and his temperament is very docile and he is recall trained

Jess is a dog loving person. She is very friendly and bubbly . Bella stayed with her for 4 days while we were away. House was left very clean. Bella was happy from the day one . She can be nervous meeting new people but with Jess she was at ease . We got updates throughout the stay. Videos and pictures which were lovely. We already booked Jess for 2 more stays. Looks like Bella has a lovely new friend. Highly recommend!! Thank you Jess for looking after Bella ❤️🐾

I can offer all the cuddles and kisses to you pups. I work from home 4 days a week so it works perfectly and I am here with the dog all day to let them out. I also live right near a green area to take them out before and after work but also on my lunch break. Lauren was fantastic in everything from communication, flexibility, sending pics and updates and most importantly, a very nice human being :)
She genuinely cared about our Great Pyrenees, Alan, and you could tell how happy she was to be spending time with him while staying at our home. He had lovely, long walks and was given his medication with no problem. In every picture, Alan looked at Lauren like he was in love! We absolutely would have Lauren take care of Alan again!

About: I absolutely adore dogs and cats and have been around them and have taken care of them throughout most of my life. I have a professional background in pet care as I have worked for two different services while living in New York City (Barkly Pets and Oh To Be A Dog) where I traveled all around the city visiting and walking dogs. It was one of my favorite jobs I've ever had and it would be my pleasure to help out anyone in or around Hertford who need someone to look after this furry little friend! I'm currently working part time and will either have the day or evening fully open on weekdays to walk or visit your pet! During the weekend, I am more than happy to be fully available to have your pet stay here in my home. I have a very flexible schedule so I can more than likely adhere to your schedule and needs! I live in a house in Hertford that has a fairly small fenced in garden where your pet can use to relieve themselves or sunbathe. I also have a very cool basement where your pet can go if it's a bit too warm outside. There is also a huge and beautiful park right near my house where I can take your dog for nice long walk as well. I will make sure to have water and snacks on hand as well if they are ever hungry or thirsty as well.

About: I've grown up with both cats and dogs, from Rottweilers to Schnauzers, animals have always been a big part of my life. I have looked after friends and family dogs, which I adore. My partner Hernan works from home and adores dogs, he is very excited to have another dog to play with ! Meaning your dog would never be alone. We share our home with little Stanley, a 6 year old rescue dog who is full of love. He enjoys playing with other dogs and is a big fan of his afternoon naps. Your dog would be treated like family and given all the love, attention, and care they deserve. Stanley and I go on two daily walks and he’d be thrilled to have a new friend to join us on our adventures. I am a part time flight attendant, so your dog would be with me on my days off and never alone. I am fully DBS checked. We have a lovely fully fenced in garden and live two minutes from the park. The dogs can have free range around our home, sofas aren’t off limits :)

About: I've had dogs all of my life. I've recently lost my show cocker spaniel in December 2023 named Buttons. I miss him dearly and miss the company of having a dog in my life and home. I have the pleasure of looking after my son's working cocker spaniel Jessie aged just 10 weeks when he is off on holiday. I work in a primary school in Hoddesdon as a teaching assistant and I have lived in Hertford all of my life. I work term time so I am only available in the school holidays and most weekends. I have a fenced garden and a locked outside gate. Dogs can be crated or have the downstairs to themselves. They are allowed on sofas and beds.

About: Give Your Pet the Next Best Thing to Your Love And Let Us Care for Them Like Family! 🥰 Fully insured and DBS checked. I'm a lifelong pet owner who grew up with a cat and four terriers, three of whom were born at home and remained with us throughout their lives. My partner also grew up around dogs and we have our own little Bichon, a very placid 14 year old called Elsie. Dogs are part of the family and I never hesitate to take them everywhere I can, be it a yomp on the Heath, a cemetary stroll, a canal run or a pipe and slippers afternoon in my local, nursing a pint and wrestling with the Sunday supplements. I'm a full member on the Rover site and have walked and boarded dog’s regularly for over ten years. I am fully DBS, (police) checked, and I have access to veterinary support via Rover. I also have certified Pet First Aid training provided by an accredited award winning company. In my spare time I volunteer for the Cinnamon Trust, a UK charity that supports elderly and terminally ill people with their pets, so I also regularly walk dogs for local beneficiaries near me. I enjoy photography and would be happy to take a few 'pawtraits' and send videos whilst looking after your family member. I’m keen to adhere to any social rules you have with your dog such as ‘not jumping up’, sitting for treats, walking well on the lead and can help with any training in these areas. 🐾 We work from home so can accommodate various day care and boarding requirements. I am happy to discuss any particular requirements you may have for your pet. We can provide pick up and drop off, so wherever you are in London, we can accommodate. We have two properties and live between both; a flat with a large fenced garden in Islington and a house in Walthamstow with a 100ft fenced garden. Our Islington pad is close to Finsbury Park, Highgate Woods, Hampstead Heath and Regents Park, and the Walthamstow house is walking distance to Epping Forest, so there are plenty of opportunities for exercise, play and long walks with your pet.

First time we have had Hugo looked after in our own home so we wasn’t too sure what to expect. Chloe was on time and very warm and Hugo took an immediate liking to her which made us feel comfortable from the start. Chloe updated us with photos and what Hugo was up to. Will definately use her again as we can see that Hugo enjoyed Chloe’s company and we felt very much like Hugo and our house were in safe hands!

About: While I’ve spent a lot of time caring for cats, my love for dogs is just as strong—and I have hands-on experience caring for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments through sitting for friends, family, and neighbours over the years. From playful puppies to older dogs who need a slower pace, I’ve cared for them all. I understand how important consistency, calm energy, and clear communication are when it comes to looking after dogs—especially when they’re adjusting to someone new. Whether it’s sticking to a regular feeding routine, administering oral medication, or making sure they get enough exercise and attention, I’m dedicated to giving every dog the personalised care they deserve and acknowledging when your pet requires nurturing, affection and play time. I’m confident with walking, feeding, basic grooming (like brushing and wiping muddy paws!), and giving your dog the companionship they need while you’re away. I also make sure to learn each dog’s individual personality and preferences—some love long walks, others prefer cuddles and quiet time—and I adjust my care accordingly. Although I don’t currently have a dog of my own, it’s always been a dream of mine—so caring for yours is truly meaningful to me. I’ll treat them like part of the family, ensuring they’re safe, comfortable, and most importantly, happy! I currently have a commitment which durates to just 3 hours a day, Monday to Friday (3 PM – 6 PM), which leaves me with plenty of time and energy to care for your furry family members! 🐾 I’m available and flexible every day—including weekends and bank holidays—and I’m more than happy to work around your schedule. Whether you need early morning check-ins, midday walks, evening cuddles, full-day care or even overnight stays, I’ll do my best to accommodate your needs. Your pet’s comfort and routine come first, and I’m here to make things as smooth and stress-free as possible for both the family and your pet. At home, I have one very spoiled Ragdoll cat who even has his own house attached to ours! While he’s a house cat, we’ve created a safe, secure outdoor space so he can explore freely. He’s treated like royalty—endless cuddles, enrichment, and affection—and I bring that same level of care and compassion to every pet I look after. Although I don’t currently have a dog of my own, I’ve always dreamed of having one. So caring for your baby will genuinely fill a little hole in my heart 💛 Whether it’s long walks, playtime in the garden, or just a comfy cuddle session, I’m ready to give your pet the same love and care I give my own. Although I understand that every pet is different, I acknowledge their individual needs and always provide the best possible care for them. Whether your pet is shy, energetic, senior, or needs medication or special attention—I adapt to their personality and routine to ensure they feel completely safe, relaxed, and happy while you’re away.

We couldn’t have asked for a better dog-sitter than Louise! She looked after our dog for almost 10 days, and her calm, relaxed nature won him over straight away. Not only did she take amazing care of him, but she was also incredibly respectful of our home, going above and beyond our expectations.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in East Hertfordshire on Rover is £45.88 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 15,153 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across East Hertfordshire. Enter your postcode to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best time to agree on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a 'home cheat sheet' that includes your preferred East Hertfordshire walking routes, the location of your favourite pet shop, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in East Hertfordshire choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 87% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
