“Marian was excellent, we can highly recommend. Great feedback and communication, dog happy and well cared for, as was the house. He even watered the plants, very kind, would definitely book again. Thank you Marian”

“Anusha and Pavan helped take care of our dogs Buddy and Bimba. They both have special requirements as they have elbow dysplasia and Buddy takes regularly medication and they both had their walks as requested and were never left alone more than 3 hours. Thank you again for your help durong a last minute family Emergency!”

“Joe stepped in and really saved our holiday by agreeing to house sit Millie for us. We exchanged several messages and pictures whilst we were away which reassured us everything was ok. When we got home we found Millie was quite happy and had obviously been well looked after. Would definitely use Joe again - thank you so much Joe.”

“James was amazing, my dog Toby immediately took to him and they seem to be best friends now. James has a wonderful demeanour, calm and yet in full control, Toby is a large dog and a puppy and not everyone can handle him. I could not have had a better person look after Toby whilst I was away.”

“Sena was honestly incredible! My needy little cat couldn't have been in better hands. Not only was Sena wonderful with him, but she also spent plenty of quality time with him. I trust her completely with our cat and wouldn't hesitate to book her again. Highly recommend!”

About: I have lifelong experience caring for dogs and studied canine behaviour for two years. I am responsible, caring, and consistent in my approach, and I work hard to support positive behaviour. While not a specialist, I have strong foundational knowledge and ensure every dog in my care is well-behaved and well-looked-after. Pet care is a core part of my daily routine. I work full-time as a dog walker/handler, so my days are structured around walks, feeding, training, and providing consistent care. I also have two small dogs of my own—Sheeva (12) and Poppy (11)—which keeps me experienced and engaged every day. Caring for dogs isn’t something I fit in around life. It is my routine, and I truly enjoy giving each dog the attention, structure, and affection they need. I mainly provide care in my own home, where dogs enjoy a clean, tidy, and comfortable environment. There’s plenty of indoor space for them to relax, as well as a fully fenced, safe garden for toilet breaks and supervised outdoor play. I maintain a calm, structured routine and make sure each dog receives the right balance of attention, exercise, and affection. I treat every dog as if they were my own, ensuring they feel secure, welcomed, and well cared for throughout their stay.
“Pavan came and spent a day with the dogs, he is very polite and well educated and demonstrated to genuinely love dogs. He paid attention about their food and medication needs so she can do it in the future and showed a very good attitude.”

About: Since losing my dog a couple of years a go at the grand old age of 15, I’ve been looking after pets for friends and family since. I live right next door to a lovely park, plenty of fields and trails. Happy to put the mileage in if your pet requires it. I’m patient and dogs seem to love me. Happy to help with training also. I work from home at present and I can pick and choose my hours. I can adjust my routine to suit your pet if needed, no problem at all. If your pet is unsociable I can walk early and late if necessary. I have a large flat with a safe and secure balcony. I am 30 seconds away from a park, 5mins away from fields and there are a number of trails and woodland walks close by. If required to sit in at your place, I am clean, quiet and respectable. Happy to be adaptable to your pets needs. Whatever it takes to make the feel safe and secure.

About: I’ve been surrounded by animals for as long as I can remember. Growing up, our family always had either a dog or a cat, so caring for pets has been a natural part of my life. Over the years, I’ve also looked after friends’, neighbours’ and family members’ pets while they were away, giving them peace of mind that their pets were safe, happy and well cared for. For the past year, I’ve been providing pet sitting and care professionally, offering reliable, attentive care tailored to each pet’s individual needs. Whether it’s walks, feeding, playtime, administering routines or simply providing companionship, I treat every pet as if they were my own. I understand that every animal has its own personality, and I take the time to build trust and make them feel comfortable. My goal is always to ensure both pets and their owners feel happy, confident and relaxed. I currently work full-time as a Social Media Manager, mostly from home, so I have good flexibility with days and times for pet sitting or dog walking. I don’t currently offer overnight boarding or staying in clients’ homes, and I don’t take pets into my own home due to having two indoor cats who keep each other company. My services include dog walking and cat/dog sitting for up to 8 hours during the day. I can be flexible with timing to suit individual needs, but I don’t provide overnight stays.
About: I had dogs as a child. Due to work never been able to have my own. Now have more time and have recently fostered for Guide Dogs. Looking to have more contact and enjoy dogs and the outdoors. Enjoy a woodland walk in particular. I generally work 4 days per week until 2pm. I am usually available Monday or Friday plus weekends and school holidays. Flexible with timings to suit your pet’s schedule. Overnight often also available. I take safety and security very seriously and always check doors and gates are closed. In my home I have a secure fenced garden. I have space for play with your pets and for naps!
“Jewel really helped me out last minute when another sitter didnt show up! Jewel communicated well, sent me pics and updates. Took Koda on a few adventures. very trustworthy and will definitely be using Jewel again for the future especially as Koda loved her!”

“Requested a puppy-sit in my home while I went out for the evening. My little puppy was clearly comfortable when I returned, despite being shy when I first left. Jess gave me an update with a photo mid-evening, which helped me feel relaxed (and less guilty!) When I got back she talked about everything they'd done together - including practicing sit and learning 'lay-down'. Very happy with her help for the evening, especially given it was a somewhat unusual request.”

About: My family has loved animals ever since I was little. When I was very young, we had three large dogs at home. I learned how to look after them. From an early age, I was in charge of refilling their water and food bowls, and sometimes helped my parents bathe them. We still have three dogs at home now. One is a Teddy that we have raised for nine years. The other two are puppies around three months old. We brought these two puppies over from my grandma’s house, and I even watched them being born. Therefore, I believe I have extensive experience caring for dogs at all life stages. I have just graduated from university and only work part-time, so I have plenty of free time most days. This allows me to dedicate lots of time to things I love, such as looking after cats and dogs. I’m more than happy to care for dogs during my free hours: any time before 11 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Spending time with pets will bring me great joy. If I take your pet back to my home, I promise to follow these rules strictly: First, I will keep the lights on at all times so the pets won’t feel scared. Besides, all doors and windows will be fully closed to guarantee their safety around the clock. If it is a dog, I will take it out for a walk every three hours to let it burn off extra energy. If it is a cat, I will play with it, and I have plenty of cat toys at home for it to enjoy. If I come over to your house to care for your pet: To start with, I will fully respect your privacy. I will send you photos of your pet, but I will never take random pictures of your house as we agreed. In addition, after spending time accompanying your pet, I will take away all food waste I generate. I will only leave after sending you photos to confirm your pet is safe and sound.

“Julia was great with our dog, Rey. She was well-taken care of and very happy throughout the stay. Julia always responded promptly when I checked in and she sent photos and videos of Rey enjoying her time. The house was kept clean and orderly and she very kindly put out our bins as well. There was an issue with our door lock on the last day but she dealt with it very quickly. We will definitely ask her to house sit for Rey in the future!”

“Both of my dogs took quickly to Katherine. She was very respectful of my pup’s quirks and it made me and them feel at ease. I will be asking for her help in the future with confidence.”

“It was immediately clear that Mary is super comfortable with any challenges a dog might throw at her, and I had no worries at all about her taking Romy on off lead walks. Mary was flexible and very understanding about the fact that Romy didn't allow for much sleep during her stay. The house was also left perfectly, and we got regular updates. Very reliable and lovely. Thanks Mary!”

“Sacha and Cristina were fantastic sitters. Communication was excellent both before and during the sit. We had a meet and greet in advance where they both demonstrated that they are natural animal people, and in particular were great with Bertie who is a slightly nervous dog with new people and needs a careful introduction. While away we were very confident and relaxed knowing the animals were in great hands. On return, the animals were clearly happy and settled and the house was absolutely spotless. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them and will certainly have them back for future trips if they can!”

Jack is lovely and a big dog lover. His own dogs are also absolute cuties. He’s very knowledgeable on canine care and gave my dog hero a lovely outing. He was totally exhausted when he came home after a fun day with jack and his pups. I would definitely recommend jack for dog sitting/ walking. He is great :) and will put you at ease.

I couldn’t be happier with how Debra and Bearsac looked after Bella and Sasha while I was away. Debra was incredibly patient and attentive, and it really shows - both girls looked happy, relaxed, and very well cared for when I returned. It gave me real peace of mind knowing they were in such loving hands. The house was spotless, everything left just as I’d hoped (or better!), and the communication throughout was brilliant. I received regular updates, which made me feel totally at ease while I was away. Thank you, Debra and Bearsac, for treating Bella and Sasha like your own. Highly recommended!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.

- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Hertsmere choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 91% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 87% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
