Pet care experience

Capable Autistic woman and her trusty teddy bear!

I have pet-sitter insurance. I have spent two years pet-sitting for free on another platform where I benefit from free accommodation worldwide, in beautiful homes. Prior to that I cared for a senior staffy for about 3 years and walked another friend's dog on occasion. Now I feel experienced enough to charge for my time, so I have joined Rover.   Being paid, can mean I can be less fussy about the accommodation! So, if your abode is humble don't let it be a barrier! I have sat up to three dogs at a time. And 4 cats.  Also mixed pets. Although I am strong and fit, I opted out of walking and sitting GIANT dogs. However, I am happy to sit giant dogs that don't require walking, (say if they have a regular walker or if you have enough land for them to run on). As well as cats and dogs, I have cared for: - Leopard geko - Turtles - Fish - Rabbits I have administered medication (by tablet, within food, by mouth and into eyes). As a young adult, I had budgies. At school, I looked after the hens, budgies and finches. My lifestyle of lots of spontaneous travel and living in unsuitable accommodation, means I can not have pets myself. The bonus of this is that I am free of preconceived ideas of how pets should be looked after. I can therefore readily accept your requirements. I work ad-hoc and mostly online. Therefore, I have a lot of time.

Safety, trust & environment

I follow the guidelines given by pet-parents and use common sense. I don't let myself be distracted by endless use of my mobile phone! I walk dogs away from the road side of pavements. I watch videos on pet care and safety. I make sure that any open windows are not unsafely open. With a dislike of loud noises myself, I will be quiet for the sake of your pets, so that I won't hurt therir sensitive ears. I can assure you that I won't scare your cats with cucumbers! Yes, those videos are funny to watch, but it is not nice for the cats!

House Sitting • Jul 25, 2025

I couldn’t be happier with how Debra and Bearsac looked after Bella and Sasha while I was away. Debra was incredibly patient and attentive, and it really shows - both girls looked happy, relaxed, and very well cared for when I returned. It gave me real peace of mind knowing they were in such loving hands. The house was spotless, everything left just as I’d hoped (or better!), and the communication throughout was brilliant. I received regular updates, which made me feel totally at ease while I was away. Thank you, Debra and Bearsac, for treating Bella and Sasha like your own. Highly recommended!

Debra has been absolutely wonderful with my cat! Reliable, caring, and clearly a true animal lover. I came home to a happy, relaxed kitty and regular updates while I was away made all the difference. Highly recommend!

Debra house-sat for us in June 2025. Debra went above and beyond to ensure that our dog, 2 cats and about 50 koi fish were well cared for and looked after as if they were her own pets. Debra is an excellent communicator and we received regular updates and photos while we were away. Our house was left spotless and we would therefore not hesitate to recommend Debra and Bearsac, her travel companion as pet-sitters to owners who is lucky enough to receive an application from her.

Deb looked after my three dogs – Honey, Pearl, and Darcy – and I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. Honey can be a bit of a handful on walks, but Deb handled her so well and even took her out on some lovely little adventures, which really impressed me. It was clear she took the time to understand each of their personalities and routines. I came home to three very happy, relaxed dogs and a spotless house. Communication throughout the sit was excellent, with updates and photos that gave me total peace of mind. I’d absolutely recommend Deb to anyone looking for a kind, capable, and experienced sitter – and I’d welcome her back any time!

Debra looked after my cat Missy and my house during the Easter holidays. She kept in touch with me everyday, sending me photos and videos of Missy and letting me know how she was getting on. Debra was extremely caring and attentive towards her and I could tell when I got back that she felt safe and comfortable with Debra. Missy is a very shy cat. My house was spotless and she even washed the bed linen! Debra is a very responsible sitter and I higly recommend her.

Debra and I met when we both volunteered for a local charity Gratitude. We became friends after we did an art project for the charity, around three years ago. Debra used to regularly walk Boo, an elderly Staffordshire Bull Terrier for a disabled friend Alan who was living in a hotel. When the hotel no longer permitted Alan to keep Boo, Debra arranged for me to look after him. She continued to walk Boo, and also walked my Labrador/Alsatian cross, Yuki if I was unable to. Yuki is a very strong and energetic dog, that can become aggressive towards other dogs in the protection of me or a person walking him. He is hard to handle. Debra is one of only 5 people that can handle him. Later when Alan had died, my oldest kid Ren who is at university near Brighton, has adopted Boo. When the students went on holiday, they asked Debra to house sit and walk and look after Boo for five days and Debra gladly accepted. Debra is polite, thoughtful, and has a keen sense of logic and intuition. She is quick to take appropriate action and is generally very reliable and punctual. I trust her with a key to my house and am confident to leave Yuki and the house in Debra’s care knowing that I will always find everything in order when I’m back. Debra is firm, loving and responsible with Yuki and was with Boo too (who was also aggressive to other dogs). She is disciplined about not feeding the dogs unsuitable food or too many treats. Dogs, in general, seem to gravitate to her. Yuki and Boo love her to bits. She is the best dog walker I’ve ever had.

Schedule

I work very part-time, ad-hoc and mostly online. Therefore, I am time-rich and can work where I have internet connection. So, my daily and weekly availaibility is very flexible for pet care. I am free of my own routines, but stick to those that come with pet care. Ad-hoc walking and drop-ins suit my lifestyle of lots of travel, better than regular repeats. With house-sitting, I am better with a day to 2 weeks notice (depending on distance and duration). Longer notice is not suitable for my lifestyle as although I comit to bookings, I don't want to tie myself to availability. I prefer to do sits of between 3 to 7 nights. Less if in Borehamwood. I am better with notice of under 2 weeks, than long notice.

Please give me details of any special requirements. Or any behavioural quirks that are useful for me to know about. How are they with other dogs and animals. What their recall is like. Whether they pull on the lead (big dogs). These are things I can handle but knowing these in advance helps me know a little bit about who they are before I meet them.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
