“John & Joana are wonderful with Oscar and also with us. They are very responsive, kind, and caring. They send pictures and videos regularly. They know so much about dogs, I feel comfortable leaving my furry baby in their care anytime. Thanks, Joana and John.”

About: I've had a dog in my home my entire life, and am always the one my friends/family turn to if they need someone to look after their pets. I have also fostered multiple dogs with leash reactivity, and have had some 1-1 work with an R+ (positive reinforcement) trainer to ensure pups can have the best experience out and about in the world while still getting their sniffs and exercise in. I occasionally run outside so I can offer to run with your pup(s) 1-2 times a week if you'd like, and I live 5 minutes away from Baron Cameron park if you like for them to play with other pups during the day at a dog park as well. Or of course we can just snuggle most of the day while I work from home. Well either way there will be lots of snuggles and pets... My last dog passed away in 2025 after a year long battle with cancer, so I have no problem giving medicine and making sure we stay on a strict schedule with food/medicine if that is what your dog needs. I look forward to becoming your pup's new best friend! I work part-time from home. I'm available for day-sitting while you're at work or overnight boarding when you're out of town. I'm typically up by 7:30, have a fenced in backyard, go on walks/runs throughout the day and love going to the dog park if your pup enjoys it! I have a 6 foot fence in my backyard that your pup can play around in. Take 2-3 x 25 minute walks around the neighborhood throughout the day and can occasionally go for 30-60 minute jogs if your pup enjoys more exercise (1-2/week)
“Lisa and J. provided my dogs a home away from home. My two pups were fed and exercised regularly and treated like family. There was an ample back yard, safely fenced. They were very precise with following my instructions, responsive to questions and accomodating to change. My dogs were happy and I was comfortable that they were in good hands. We will definitely be boarding our pups with Lisa and J. again.”

“5 glowing stars to Deborah for graciously boarding Baxter on such short notice and showering him with exceptional, loving care while we were out of town. Being new to VA, we were understandably a bit hesitant about leaving him, but Deborah instantly eased our worries and gave Baxter the joyful, pampered experience he truly deserved. Thank you, Deborah!!”

“Kaylyn and Naman are great pet sitters! I highly recommend them. They took great care of our dog Alli, she was very happy and relaxed with them! They were attentive to her every need and always made sure she had walks and outside time. Alli had an eye problem and they took really excellent care of her. I would definitely trust your pets with them, they’re great!”

“Sierra was great! This was our second time having her watch our pup and we got daily updates with pictures and videos! She brought up any questions or concerns and we were able to talk through them. Will definitely book again!”

“Vidhi did a wonderful job taking care of Buddy. Communication was smooth throughout his stay, and she sent daily pictures, which gave me peace of mind. I also loved that she also has a mini Goldendoodle, so Buddy had a buddy to keep him company! He looked very comfortable and happy in her home. I would definitely recommend Vidhi, and I have booked her again for next weekend.”

“Valerie is a very dedicated and professional dog watcher. Her whole family is involved in taking care of the dogs and cares for them as their own. Her dog Nutella was also a great companion for our dog- she is mellow and I think that helps the dogs adjust to the home. Valerie kept us informed with daily pictures and videos which allowed to enjoy our vacation without worry. We highly recommend Valerie to care for your dogs while away!”
“I recently had the pleasure of having Judy dog sit my 16-year-old pug, Gator, and I couldn't be more pleased with the experience. Judy did a fantastic job taking care of Gator while I was away. Not only did she ensure that all of Gator's needs were met, but she also provided him with plenty of love and attention. Judy's professionalism and genuine love for animals were evident from the moment I met her. She was attentive to Gator's special requirements due to his age, and I felt completely at ease leaving him in her care. Judy's communication was excellent, providing me with regular updates and even sending me pictures of Gator enjoying his time with her. It's clear that Judy is passionate about what she does, and her dedication to providing top-notch care for pets is truly commendable. I will not hesitate to use Judy's services again in the future, and I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a reliable and caring individual to look after their beloved pets. Thank you, Judy, for your wonderful care of Gator. I know he's looking forward to his next visit with you!”

I can’t recommend her enough! From the moment I dropped off my cats, I knew they were in great hands. She has such a genuine love for cats, and it really shows in the way she cares for them. A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
