We absolutely loved Genevieve, but more importantly, our little pups loved her. Genevieve is a fantastic communicator, clearly loves dogs, and was so respectful of our space, a calming presence for our girls who were wondering who this new person was in their habitat. We would have her come back anytime we weren't able to travel with the pups. My only hesitation in leaving a glowing review is that she won't be available for us because you will all want to book her.

We reached out to Cordigen with a last-minute request, and she was incredibly accommodating, kind, and flexible from our very first messages and meeting. She immediately recognized that our pup needed support with calm greetings and was so thoughtful in how she approached her, speaking softly and offering gentle, kind reminders to Scout not to jump. Throughout the day, Cordigen was wonderfully communicative, sending photos and updates so we always knew how Scout was doing. She even played calming music on the TV and was happily playing with Scout in the backyard when I arrived home. At pickup, she gave a detailed rundown of the day, from bathroom breaks to how she helped Scout stay calm when she heard noises outside. We truly couldn’t be happier to have found Cordigen as a sitter and would enthusiastically recommend her to anyone looking for dog care, especially for dogs who may be a bit anxious or need extra help staying calm. Thank you, Cordigen!

About: Hi, I’m Dawn and I have been a pet parent for over 25 years to rabbits, guinea pigs and 4 dogs with 2 of them of senior age. All 4 dogs were raised since they were puppies and they are currently based in my hometown with my parents when I moved here. My intuition and experience allow me to provide your pet with the best care and most comfortable environment away from home, so rest assured that they are in good hands. Let’s chat! I’m mostly available during weekdays from 7am to 12 midnight and certain weekends. Date and timings can be further discussed if you require my services. I have a balcony at home and have space available for your pet to roam around freely if needed. Happy to chat more to see what else you’ll require

Katie was a hit with our two dogs right off the bat! From the first moment they met she immediately had their attention and enable them to take direction quickly. While we were away Katie took them to the park numerous walks spent tons of quality time with them and in general made the weekend as much a vacation for the pups as it was for us, the home was in great shape when we came home, and even personalized cute report cards for the pups! Book Katie while you have the chance!!

About: Animals have always been my jam. One of my favorite quotes is, "Dogs are angels sent down by god to teach us how to unconditionally love". When I'm surrounded by animals I feel at peace and because of that they feel content and loved. I've always had connections with animals on a very deep level. I feel they have so much to teach us and that earning an animals trust is one of life's most highest honors. With all my friends and family I've always been "chosen" by their cats and have been their dogs favorite person outside the family. I have a gift with animals that has allowed me the privilege to take care of and connect with many throughout the years. I do most of my work at home online and I'm a homebody so my pet care is part of my normal daily routine. I want them to feel that they're never alone. I feed, walk, play games cuddle and treat them as my own.If they need medicine, I can help with that as well. The hardest part of doing a service like this is when I leave them I miss them dearly until next time I see them.

About: I have my own 7 year old corgi whom I love to take on social outings, and have always wanted to own a ranch to foster dogs and other animals. for now, this will do🤓 I enjoy popping in to see my friends’ dogs while they’re at work to take them out for potty breaks & play, and watching my friends’ dogs when they go on trips~ Currently on a 3 month LOA from my nursing job, but am planning on taking a break afterwards due to burnout. Because of that I’m flexible and able to adjust to whatever needs pets may have! Currently I wake up, walk Toast (my corgi), hangout with him for a bit and then run errands if there are any. I can then pop in for a drop in/walk elsewhere (and bring toast too possibly)! He’s an integral part of my life so he’s always involved if he can be! My husband is an anesthesia MD resident at Stanford so he’s often at the hospital with long hours — all that to say he’s not very high maintenance as well so I have more wiggle room with my schedule :) I love dogs, and will always treat yours like I treat mine :) Will leave Toast at home if your dog is not up for socializing, but can also bring Toast if your dog needs some doggie time.

Rachel was fantastic. She house sat for dog for seven days. From the beginning, she was communicative, responsive, and incredibly responsible. She sent regular updates and photos throughout the stay—enough that I always knew Banjo was doing well, but never so many that it felt excessive. When I got home, Banjo was relaxed, happy, and completely himself, which honestly tells me everything I need to know. He’s a pretty affectionate little Velcro dog, and it was obvious he’d been well cared for. Rachel even came back later to take him on one last walk because of my return time, let me know when he’d last gone potty, and left him with a Kong before she headed out. Those little thoughtful touches really stood out. She also left my home spotless and organized, and I felt completely comfortable having her in both my home and Banjo’s care. Being able to travel without worrying about your dog is priceless, and Rachel gave me exactly that. I was able to be present with my family because I knew he was safe, happy, and in excellent hands. I genuinely can’t think of anything she could have done better. I’d book her again without hesitation and recommend her to anyone looking for an exceptional sitter.

FAQs for House Sitting - Stanford

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Stanford on Rover is $69.93 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 9,091 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Stanford. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Stanford walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Stanford maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Stanford choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Stanford. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
