“Marion was very responsive, sent updates of my dog while we were gone, and was respectful of our home! I definitely felt comfortable my dog was in good hands which helps when you’re away from home❤️”

“Cj is wonderful. He is kind, professional, responsible and thorough. We couldn’t be more grateful. Cj took care of our elderly Simon and our house for three days. He sent updated photos of himself during walks and meals, which gave us peace of mind. We definitely recommend Cj to anyone who wants their pets to be in the best hands. We are planning our next trips to call Cj again. 😃”

“Kimberly was absolutely amazing! we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. She sent daily updates, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away, and her personality really shines through, she’s warm, funny, and genuinely kind. It’s clear how much she truly cares about the dogs. Roku and Toki were so well loved and cared for, and she went above and beyond not just with them but with our home too. She even rolled out the trash for us, which was such a thoughtful touch. Roku can be a bit difficult on walks and tends to pull, but Kimberly handled him so patiently and confidently. That really meant a lot to us knowing he was in capable hands. We would 100% trust her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone attentive, responsible, and genuinely caring.”

“Amara was the very best sitter we have ever had - she is so very kind, polite, caring, genuine and my dog and I absolutely loved her! My dog is sweet but I have never seen her take to another like she did with Amara. I am so grateful for her help!”

“There’s no one I’d trust my shy little pup with more than Katie. She was patient, professional, and thoughtful when house sitting with our dog. She even cleaned while she was there! We wish we could keep her all to ourselves! I would recommend her to anyone with a shy dog.”

“Jeanette was amazing. Jake was being difficult and wouldn’t come in but Jeannette wouldn’t give up and go to bed till she finally got him in at 3AM. I felt bad and told her to go to bed, but she wouldn’t until he was in. He is usually good for her and comes in before dark,, but not this time.”

“Genevieve did a great job taking care of our 3 girls while we were out of town. She followed our instructions well and we truly felt comfortable knowing they were in good hands.”

“Sara was SO amazing! She was very attentive to Finny’s care instructions and sent plenty of videos and pictures to put my mind at ease while I was away from my kitty. Finny warmed up to her way faster than he usually does to new people, and she even brought him a new toy! I highly recommend her for house and pet sitting and will definitely be booking her again in the future :)”

“I fully trusted Klara in our home and with our dog. She sent amazing updates and I know my dog had the best time. For being a last minute schedule I could not be happier and at ease with Klara! Highly recommend for any other dog parents looking for doggy care.”

“Sydney was wonderful with my dog while I was out of town. She asked great questions beforehand and obviously cared about trying to keep things as normal for my pup as possible. While I was gone, I trusted her in my home, and appreciated her updates along the way. It was clear Bailey enjoyed her time with Sydney!”

“Zoe went above and beyond to make sure our dog was well taken care of while we were away! She was very reliable, communicative and helpful in every way. She even had to deal with an unexpected leak in our washing machine and handled it like a champ. We are so appreciative of her and would definitely ask her to dog-sit again!”

“Arianna was really receptive to Willow's needs and very communicative. We really appreciate that she went above and beyond to give Willow company and to make her comfortable. She was also a terrific and considerate house guest. We recommend her wholeheartedly to other pet owners!”

About: I’ve cared for and owned dogs, cats, reptiles, and rats since I was a kid. I love dogs of all sizes and cats of all temperaments. Currently I just have a quail. I love caring for animals of all kind! I am patient and am open to caring for pets with special needs, especially with detailed instructions. Non-traditional pets don’t scare me, although spiders are not my favorite. They’re cute, I just don’t want to touch them. Haha. Am happy to take doggos on fun outdoor walks and give them lots of exercise! Cats will get lots of exercise, playing, and love, catered to their preferences. I currently work part-time tutoring kiddos virtually, and caring for my elderly Father-in-law in Monterey some weekends. I prefer drop-in care and giving walks, but am open to house-sitting depending on the details. I am happy to come to your home to meet and talk about the care if your pet(s). I live in a small apartment, so I won't be boarding any animals. Not only do I follow instructions well (I’m an elementary teacher, so I’m good at that), I also love to give animals snuggles and care and am happy to send hourly pictures.
“Joshua showed up with less than 2 days notice and hung out with my 3 dogs and 2 cats for the day. The really great thing was the sight off all my pets immediately taking to him. He has really positive, calming energy that relaxes. I will use him again.”

“Trina took care of Xander and Teal over the holidays. So grateful to her for taking such good care of my babies, especially giving Xander his meds which is a tough job. She is responsible, caring, clean and loving. Would trust her with my babies any day!”
“This was our second time booking Ghazaal for in home cat sitting and I definitely felt a lot more at ease leaving our cat because we knew she was in excellent hands. We got regular updates, Ghazaal is so kind and easy to interact with. All instructions were followed and our house was like she was never here, except for a very happy cat! We have already booked Ghazaal again!”

About: While I've had dogs somewhere in my life as far back as I can remember (belonging to relatives and friends), my big pet care experience started when my family got a dog of our own in 2018 (we named him Fletcher). When we got him, his foster family had mostly potty trained him, but we had to teach him other commands and house rules. In 2023, I spent a summer abroad and helped foster a couple cats, including entertaining, feeding, and cleaning litter boxes. April of Last Year, Fletcher suddenly passed from our lives and left our lives feeling quite empty indeed. Late December, we adopted another dog (named Dashi) with a very different personality than Fletcher. Dashi is very sweet but very skittish, and is much more people/"pack" oriented than treat oriented. Being a student, my hours are limited by class times. Thus, I am happy to walk or visit your dog between 8:00am-11:30am Mon-Thur, and 8:30am-5:30pm Fri and Sun. When walking dogs, I am typically one to go at the dog's comfortable pace, and will plan walk routes accordingly (although, I definitely take suggestions!). At home, I will gladly play with your dog, whether it be tug-of-war, tag, fetch, or any other game. Situation permitting, I would also be willing to take your dog on play-dates or bring my own dog (Dashi, see above) if requested. Please tell me what commands are useful for your dog, and any quirks or behaviours you want me to watch out for. While I can bring my own dog treats, I by far prefer treats that you know your dog likes and will respond to. I am not willing to take your dog off-leash in public until I am sure that your dog will return when I call.
“We really appreciated how communicative Devin was, and our dog seemed comfortable with him from the get go, even crawling into bed with him to cuddle. Respectful of home, dogs, and humans. Appreciated his sitting”

The median cost per night for house sitting in Los Altos is $75
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Los Altos
Jeanette took exceptional care of Bella while we were out of the country for two weeks. She treated Bella as if she were her own, followed her routine carefully, and kept us updated regularly with messages and photos. Knowing Bella was in such caring and capable hands gave us complete peace of mind, so we were able to truly enjoy our trip without worrying. Jeanette also went above and beyond by collecting our mail and watering our houseplants, which we really appreciated. When we returned, Bella was happy, healthy, and clearly very comfortable with Jeanette. In fact, Bella seemed to miss her after she left, which speaks volumes about the wonderful bond they formed during those two weeks. We couldn’t have asked for a better pet sitter and would absolutely trust Jeanette with Bella again

Mica took wonderful care of our German Shepherd! She sent us great photos, took him on some nice walks, and kept us updated with excellent communication. We would absolutely book with Mica again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, thoughtful dog sitter!

Is there a 6-star option? There should be! Stephen did an excellent job of caring for my dog and my house. From the pre-stay visit, to the gentle and appropriate reminders, detailed notes, and the charming and informative daily updates. Bonus: new skills and tricks were learned by my pooch! Stephen's gentle and calm approach -- superb!

Rachel was fantastic. She house sat for dog for seven days. From the beginning, she was communicative, responsive, and incredibly responsible. She sent regular updates and photos throughout the stay—enough that I always knew Banjo was doing well, but never so many that it felt excessive. When I got home, Banjo was relaxed, happy, and completely himself, which honestly tells me everything I need to know. He’s a pretty affectionate little Velcro dog, and it was obvious he’d been well cared for. Rachel even came back later to take him on one last walk because of my return time, let me know when he’d last gone potty, and left him with a Kong before she headed out. Those little thoughtful touches really stood out. She also left my home spotless and organized, and I felt completely comfortable having her in both my home and Banjo’s care. Being able to travel without worrying about your dog is priceless, and Rachel gave me exactly that. I was able to be present with my family because I knew he was safe, happy, and in excellent hands. I genuinely can’t think of anything she could have done better. I’d book her again without hesitation and recommend her to anyone looking for an exceptional sitter.

I’m 100% satisfied with how CJ cared for our dog and our home while we were away. He quickly made friends with our Coda, managed her different medications, played with her and took loads of pictures which he sent us twice daily with updates. He even took out the trash, washed the sheets and remade the bed. Definitely would book CJ for our future needs!

Korinne was fantastic. She took care of my kitty for 4 days and spent ample time with him, stayed the night, provided several updates a day and made me feel that he was well taken care of. Will definitely try to have her visit again in the future when I need help!

Cynthia did a great job taking care of Mabel over a 10 day trip. She was respectful of our place and left everything as it was once we got back. We got timely updates and did lots of activities with our pup who has a lot of energy. Would love to book her again in the future

Jaya was super accomodating and flexible with the dates. My dog Mila was super comfortable with her. Jaya had excellent communication and took great pics, kept regular updates. I was able to travel with peace of mind, so I will continue booking with her again for sure!

Holly took care of our goldendoodle for a weekend. She was very responsive and we appreciated the photos and updates from her. Our dog sometimes doesn’t want to eat his food when we’re away. Holly put in extra effort into making sure that our dog ate his meals, for which we’re very grateful. The house was just as we had left it. We’re very happy with the experience and would love to book her again.

Barbara was outstanding in every way, from our first communications through the end of the stay. She is an excellent communicator, was very comfortable with my senior dogs, sent photos and updates, left the house in great shape, and was a pleasure to deal with. I would be happy to have her come back.
I cannot recommend William highly enough! From the moment we left town, I knew Nala was in good hands. He was super-communicative, sending multiple photo and written updates every day, ensuring me that she was being cared and loved for while I was out of the house. I’ll be reaching out to him first when I need a dog-sitter again!

FAQs for House Sitting - Los Altos
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Los Altos on Rover is $66.6 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 6,515 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Los Altos. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Los Altos walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Los Altos maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Los Altos choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Los Altos. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
