About: From family pets, growing up on a farm, pet sitting in college, to multiple years taking care of animal ambassadors as a naturalist, I've been working with and caring for critters of all sorts for nearly as long as I can remember! For critters in the pet category, I have been caring for indoor cats since 2018, from kittens to seniors and every stage in between, including administering medications. My family has had medium/large dogs (rottweilers, labs, and border collie and boxer mixes) my whole life but I have also pet sat for smaller breeds like Boston terriers and cavalier king Charles spaniels. My time as a naturalist gave me experience working with not only varied species, but varied personalities. From grumpy skunks to mischievous snakes and dramatic birds, I have extensive experience across the gambit. It also provided experience with very specific care instructions and detailed documentation. I like to provide pet parents with a thorough summary of my time with their pet so they don't have to worry while they're away. My schedule varies week to week from periods of no availability to periods of open availability, I will make sure to keep things updated so you know what to expect! In fall of 2025, I finished my 2,200+ mile thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. What does that mean for pet care? I LOVE to walk and do so whenever I get the chance! I would love to have your pet join me! I am very detail oriented and will follow your care instructions to a T! I also provide my pet parents a detailed summary of my visit for peace of mind, every time!

About: I love animals, and I have been around and taken care of them since childhood, particularly dogs and cats. After moving to Chicago in 2017, I started walking and occasionally dog sitting for my friends’ companions. However, since living in the Shorewood area, I have worked with a variety of different dog (and cat) breeds and ages, including assisting with puppy training and senior care/mobility. I understand that each animal companion is unique with their own personality and temperament and that should be a major factor in providing appropriate care for them. Therefore, I strive to incorporate this mindset into each care opportunity I receive. I am currently seeking full-time employment so I have plenty of time to walk and play with your companions during the week! I am available for dog walking and drop-in visits Monday through Sunday. Your companions’ safety and health is of the utmost importance. With dog walking, I will inquire about any preferred walking places/parks, discuss beforehand any recommended locations, and follow the agreed-upon routes. In addition, I will ensure your companion is hydrated, monitor their environment for safety concerns, and properly dispose of waste products. Regarding drop-in visits, I recognize the level of trust it takes to allow a new person into one’s home. Thus, prior to the first visit, I will always ask about comfort level in terms of gaining entry into the home and areas to access or avoid. In addition, I aim to familiarize myself with your companion’s routine, such as learning their feeding times (and making sure their water bowls are always full), preferred playtime activities and toys, and any special needs. I value good communication and frequently provide updates on their well-being and promptly address any concerns/behavioral observations. If a dog is anxious upon first meeting me, I ensure they have time to get to know me instead of jumping right into an activity, which includes being patient and slowly offering my hand for sniffing, speaking in a calm tone of voice, and not forcibly entering their space before they are ready.

“Melissa had lightning fast-replies and helped us when we needed a last minute walker. She provided a really cute update and summary of the walks. I also forgot to book the walk before she was scheduled to stop in, but she still showed up and sent me a really nice reminder. I think there is something on the back-end of Rover that requires booking to happen first, but Melissa worked with Rover IT to get it sorted without me having to do anything. 10/10 would recommend. Also, we have a 90-lb Bernese Mountain Dog that can occasionally get pully and jumpy, and Melissa handled her just fine.”

About: I have pet sit for both friends and family for extended periods of time. Being responsible for care such as feeding, cleaning up after, and walking. I get done with work at 2 everyday so I am available for afternoon visits. I also have weekends and occasional wednesdays off so I can spend more time with the animals on those days. I make sure to follow owners directions exactly as written. And take care for animals how I would want my own animals to be cared for.

About: I have had experience caring for many different kinds of animals throughout my life, such as dogs, horses, guinea pigs, and fish. I am comfortable and confident with walking, feeding, bathing, etc. I am a full-time grad student, and I also work a part-time job. My schedule is a little different each weekday, sometimes with breaks in the middle of the day. I am available all day, every other weekend. I do not currently care for any pets in my home. I am not currently accepting jobs that require a pet to stay in my home.

About: I had dogs growing up and own two myself now. I just love our furry friends! Familiar with lap dogs, work dogs and hunting dogs. I have a great deal of experience with oral, eye and ear medications for dogs as well as being a nurse at a local hospital by trade. I have a flexible schedule that changes week to week, so I can arrange dog services to fit my work schedule before the week begins. I have a tendency to talk to my dogs, and others dogs, like a crazy person... but I promise I am not crazy. I find the level of attention they feel coming from you is amplified when you speak to them, even if they don't understand what you are saying, lol! I have an athletic dogs as well as a lap dog myself and I am therefore used to medium and high energy levels from them. My condo unit is filled with sun and nice and warm in the colder months. Dogs are allowed to roam when I am home and also my furniture is pet-friendly. I play catch and tug of war with one of my dogs and take them on walks daily. I am happy to do all the same things with someone's pet, or more if the particular dog requires.

About: I’ve been a dog sitter for over four years to a family that travels quite a bit! I also help my neighbors walk and feed their pets when they are gone! I also have a cat of my own in my hometown and love to spoil her!! I have PLENTY of weekend time on my hands to play with your pets!! I am super communicative and notoriously flexible schedule wise - for I want to be with your pets as much as possible!! My home offers a large open concept for your pets to frolic around! My current schedule allows me to be really good with feeding and potty schedules! I do not have a fence, but I will spend my time outside with your animals in my spacious yard and nearby walking paths and parks!

About: I’ve been around dogs my whole life, and friends and family have often relied on me to help walk or care for their dogs when they are out of town! Besides having had a dog of my own, I used to volunteer at both dog and cat rescues. I love making pets happy and helping to give them the best lives possible :) I am a medical school student so I have flexibility in between school and studying for your pet care needs, from daily walks to house sitting!
