“We had Nicolas come and house sit and watch our dogs while we were out of town. He was extremely communicative, providing updates daily on the dogs and our house. He is easy going, respectful and a great dog and house sitter! We will be using him for all future trips as he made us so comfortable and gave our dogs all of his attention and time. I’d book with Nicolas without any hesitation!”

“This was my first time using Amanda’s services and I couldn’t be happier! Communication was great from start to finish, my pups absolutely loved her, and she left my house spotless. Highly recommend!”
“Yajahyra is great and will definitely book again with her! She is so sweet, sent pictures and updates throughout the day which put me at ease. She also left a cute photo of my puppy for when I got home. Highly recommend!”

“Sara is a dedicated proffesional with a true love for our four-legged furry friends. We have three girls, all 10 years and older, each requiring individual care. One required injections twice a day promptly at 8:00. With Sara, we were kept informed of daily doings with videos and messages. We always felt like the girls were taken care of. We could tell from the videos that Sara communicated with each girl equally and lovingly. I was so pleased with Sara that I told all my fellow dog parents about her. Sara was also very prompt in responding to calls and messages. Our dogs require 24/7 care and Sara made this a pleasure, not a chore. When we returned home, we knew the girls had been well cared for. We travel a lot and I have had a total of 28 dogs and cats so far in my life. I would never consider boarding my dogs and would rank Sara as one of the best doggie caregivers I have known over the past 50 years. Thanks, Sara.”
“Sophia was professional, responsive, and so kind to our doggos! I got updates and photos regularly, and she helped us trust that the dogs were taken care of so we could enjoy our weekend away.”

“Angela was so amazing! She stayed with Murphy & was super attentive with walking and hanging out with him! She was on time & very communicative! She was so kind & respectful of our home, I felt so comfortable with her! Not only did Murphy love her, but I did as well! Highly recommend & we will definitely be booking with her again!”

I’ve been a volunteer at animal shelters, and love the bonds you can form with these furry friends we welcome into our homes. “Joel is such an unbelievably great sitter for our high-energy, high-maintenance pups. He was able to wrangle our 9-month-old malinois (NOT a job for the faint of heart) as well as our smaller but equally crazy 3-year-old mixed breed for four days without breaking a sweat! My husband and I felt super comfortable with him in our home and with our dogs; he's highly communicative, sends great pictures, and he and his wife are all-around great people. I'd give 10 stars if I could!”

“Anusha was everything we could hope for and more. She took care of 3 dogs over July 4 weekend. She administered medication as prescribed, sent pics/communicated well, and took great care of our home. More importantly, Anusha was kind and patient with our dogs. It means so much to know the dogs are in kind, capable hands while we’re away—thank you again, Anusha!”

I live in a house with a backyard. I have no kids just 1 small yorkie. I dog sit in my home and have never had any problems with potty breaks, walks, or with rough playing with my yorkie.

Anusha was everything we could hope for and more. She took care of 3 dogs over July 4 weekend. She administered medication as prescribed, sent pics/communicated well, and took great care of our home. Marilyn did a great job of communicating and caring for Max. She stayed overnight with him. We have moved to a new area and I decided last minute to take a quick 3 day trip. Marilyn came over to meet Max and said yes to caring for him. I’m very grateful for her handling this quickly. Max looks forward to her staying with him again soon.

Amanda was so great! She was really good with my crazy puppy and paid attention to my senior cat who usually keeps to herself. Amanda even went above and beyond and trimmed my pups nails a bit because she noticed they were long. Would definitely trust her to watch my animals again!

Yajahyra was friendly, professional, but most importantly, trustworthy. We gave her the keys to our house weeks before she came and felt 100% confident in her. Also, our cats are comfortable with us only, so we didn't expect much, but we could tell from the photos and videos she sent us (and also when we walked in the door after returning home) that they loved her. Highly recommended!

This was my first time working with Malia. She came in for a meet and greet and it was immediately a wonderful fit, not to mention my car Koa having an instant liking to her. Malia took the time to understand Mia and Koa’s elaborate routine and asked questions. The day of Malia was attentive to detail and communicative throughout the day which helped me feel good knowing Mia and Koa received the best care possible. I could tell she was also enjoying her time getting to know them and spending time with my lovely voids!

Alexandra was an amazing in-home dog sitter. She took excellent care of my senior dog, who has a specific diet and requires medication, and handled everything perfectly. She sent photos and updates a couple of times each day, which gave me a lot of peace of mind while I was away from my boy. It was clear he was comfortable, happy, and very well cared for. I would absolutely book with Alexandra again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring, reliable, and attentive dog sitter.

We used Laurel for the first time and she was awesome. Our puppy was sick with, let’s just say “GI issues” and Laurel had no problem with dealing with all that. She was a compassionate caregiver, up to the task of taking Cookie out multiple times, and cleaning up when the poor dog didn’t make it in time! I highly recommend her.

Danny was a great help during our time away, and he did an outstanding job of keeping up with a rascal of a puppy in addition to our adult Lab. Danny definitely went above and beyond to keep the chaos in control, and kept us informed along the way. We also appreciated that he went beyond expectations to leave the house clean and tidy before we got home. Would highly recommend!

The first thing I liked immediately about Belle was her good vibes ✨My dogs seemed very comfortable around her right away also. Belle stayed overnight at my home, and was very helpful, kind and communicative. She sent lots of pics, followed all of my directions left for her and if she had any questions did not hesitate to ask. She did a great job, is delightful and trustworthy. I would use Belle again in a heartbeat 💖🐶

Riham handled her first stay with our crew like a pro—and our crew is not exactly “beginner level.” We have two large dogs, including a German Shepherd mix who can be a little… selective about strangers (read: mild territorial opinions), plus an easygoing cat. So we don’t take bringing in a new sitter lightly. Somehow, Riham passed the test immediately. The dogs warmed up to her way faster than expected, and even our more skeptical guy seemed genuinely comfortable, which is not something we see with just anyone. She kept us updated with photos and messages (which we absolutely appreciated), and it was clear everyone was relaxed, safe, and well cared for. The house and yard were in good shape when we got back, too. Riham is kind, trustworthy, and very conscientious. We’d happily book her again.

FAQs for House Sitting - San Luis Rey
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Luis Rey on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 5,183 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Luis Rey. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Luis Rey walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Luis Rey maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Luis Rey choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
