“Danny did a phenomenal job watching our two dogs, three cats and one bird over the holidays while we dealt with unexpected must do travel. When we needed to extend a few days, he graciously accommodated that as well.”

“Jenny did a wonderful job taking care of our 2 cavapoos! She sent us lots of photos and communicated with us often. She also left the house spotless! We look forward to having her come again soon!”

“Eileen was excellent! Very organized, spent a lot of time with Milo and kept us abreast of his daily activities. I asked Milo how she was and he just smiled and wagged his tail. I was more than pleased with her services and very positive attitude!”

“Omar and Claudia are exceptional! They took excellent care of my puppy Ellie while I was away on a weekend trip. After our initial meet-and-greet, my husband and I felt comfortable and confident that my fur baby would be in good hands. Omar and Claudia are professional adults who are very polite and have kind, caring hearts. As a frequent traveler, I feel so fortunate to have met Omar and Claudia, whom I can trust, and who can give good care and love to my baby Ellie.”

“Jeffrey was amazing with our two pups. We have one who is a bit anxious and fearful around new people, especially men, and Jeffrey quickly won him over! He was available for a meet and greet and gave tons of updates and photos to put our minds at ease. He is fantastic!!”

About: I’m a reliable and attentive dog sitter who takes the time to understand each dog’s specific needs and routine. I have experience caring for both puppies and senior dogs, so I’m comfortable adjusting my approach depending on their age, energy level, and behavior. With puppies, I focus on reinforcing good habits like basic commands, potty training routines, and appropriate play. I stay consistent with whatever training style the owner prefers to help support their progress. I also have experience with senior care, including giving medications, monitoring mobility, and making sure older dogs stay comfortable and don’t overexert themselves. I pay close attention to any changes in behavior and keep owners updated. I’m patient, observant, and make sure every dog feels safe, cared for, and well looked after. I am a college student at Penn State University and am back for summer, so I’m free everyday and am flexible with timing to fit your needs. I follow each pet’s normal routine to keep them comfortable and stress-free. In a client’s home, I stick to their feeding, walking, and care instructions while making sure the pet gets plenty of attention and exercise.
“Karachi did a great job taking care of our dog, Charlie. She was very communicative, accommodated our schedule, and was diligent in giving Charlie his medicine. Charlie really liked her!”

“We were VERY pleased with Jony. It was a last minute booking for an unexpected trip. He came to meet our dog and go over house/animal instructions beforehand. When he stayed at our house he left it cleaner than when he arrived! He took excellent care of our 10 yr old rescue German Shepherd and our chinchilla. Communication was excellent. We will definitely book with him again.”

“Melissa was communicative, sent photos and was overall great to work with. Our dogs were very calm when we came back which is great! She will be watching. Then again in two weeks and are overall happy with the support.”

About: I’ve been pet sitting for many years now. I love animals and I love giving them all the attention they need. I am willing to help with pet care no matter what that means. It could be as simple as feeding and walks. It could also be more complicated and be about making sure an older dog gets their medicine. Secretly for me pet sitting is more about spending time with animals than it is about the money. I am free all day on the weekends. I will base my weekend schedule around the dog’s schedule. On weekdays I am currently working from home 8-4. If I need to stay overnight at your home I treat it with the upmost respect. I am also willing to do other basic tasks at the house. Like watering plants and taking in the mail. I know how helpful it can be for dogs to stay in a familiar environment.
“Korrey did a wonderful job taking care of our German Shepherd Quincy and hound mix Sydney while we were on vacation for a week. Sydney is a little skittish towards new people, but she warmed right up to Korrey - he has very calm energy. Korrey administered several medications for the dogs and also picked up the dog poop in the backyard. He followed all instructions, sent a few pictures, and I never had any issues getting in touch with him. I was nice to be on vacation and not have to worry about our pups at all!”

About: I’m a pre-vet student who just graduated from UVA and has grown up with two large dogs! I’ve also recently owned a hamster from a college lab! I have a lot of experience dog and cat sitting for friends and family including puppies, kittens, and senior dogs and cats. I also have about 100 hours of dog walking experience from a shelter so I am comfortable with reactive/fearful/energetic dogs, and another 100 from shadowing at a vet practice. I am currently looking for a vet assistant job so my schedule is open 7 days a week! I am used to all day pet sitting. I always make sure that I understand the instructions that I’m given and maintain clear communication with the owner if I have any questions. I never make any assumptions and always make sure that the owner is comfortable with any decisions that need to be made.
“Tabatha was fantastic! I had to go out of town to deal with sick family, and needed to not worry about my pets. Tabatha made everything so easy and took great care of my dog and cat. Will definitely be booking with her again.”

“Malek did a great job letting Gimli adjust to a new human at his own pace. He asked for guidance when needed, to help Gimli build trust in him. Gimli greeted him happily when he returned to pick up his things, so I know Gimli feels comfortable. As the owner of a sensitive, intelligent and active dog this was just what I was looking for. Thank you, Malek!”

About: I've been taking care of dogs for the past 10 years, and I absolutely love it! I come from a family of dog lovers, but we never had our own dog because we traveled too much. Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Potomac walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Potomac maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Potomac choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
