We are so grateful for the care our home and dog received during the five days we were away. Lauren was responsible, thoughtful, and treated Grace with genuine love. We came home to a happy pup and a clean house, which tells you everything about the level of care she provides. Communication was great and we always felt at ease knowing everything was in good hands. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and reliable sitter.

About: Hi, I enjoy all ages of dogs and cats. I have had many, many dogs and cats growing up raising them from newborn puppies or kittens all the way into their senior years. I am well experienced in training puppies, playing with active cats/dogs and caring for sick or aged pets as well. I have also volunteered for many rescue organizations, most recently Meriden Humane Society. The joy animals bring me, far surpasses any other career I've had throughout the years. I currently am transitioning into part-time retirement of running my own HVAC company and I would like to start doing what I enjoy more; caring for animals(and plants!). I currently have a very active, under one, golden retriever and a 6 year old golden retriever. We love to go outside and throw the ball, play in the wading pool, or let the dogs play together in the backyard.

If I could give Kat 100 stars I would. She came in to house sit and watch my mini Aussie for a week and left the place absolutely immaculate. She volunteered to help clean spaces I hadn’t looked at in months, took Nova on plenty of walks and adventures, sent tons of updates and even left some sweet homemade treats! If you’re looking for someone to help out with your furry family member, she goes above and beyond and is an excellent choice!

About: I've cared for the fuzzy family members of friends, family friends, and work friends for years. My own pets have been mostly senior rescues from owners who could no longer care for them. I have experience with medication, drop-ins, house-sitting, and more. I am currently an artist with open commissions, so my schedule is flexible and made for your pets. I usually crochet or draw when I care for lower-energy animals, and love playing with those with more energy. I am a no-shoes-in-house kind of person, and can bring separate house shoes if preferred. I am no stranger to cleaning up pet accidents. I keep to the living areas of the home, unless the pets are kept elsewhere, and provide a quiet presence for more introverted or timid animals. I ensure to adhere to the idea of "leave no trace", as though your home is the natural habitat for your pets.

Roger is a fantastic dog watcher. We were away for 10 days and had Roger watch our two greyhounds in our home. We received daily photos of our dogs — walking, at rest, sitting, at attention, being happy — very happy. Also, the house was well cared for and was just as we left it. We plan on using Roger on a regular basis. Having him to depend on will give us more freedom and peace of mind.

Kate was absolutely amazing! We were so worried about our special needs cat while we were out of town but both of our cats and dog loved her!! She was able to get out very shy cat to eat his medicine and play with her in such a short amount of time. We will definitely be using Kate in the future when we’re out of town!

Cayton watched our Great Dane at our house for 4 days. I had every confidence that she teated our dog like she were her own. She went above and beyond the time I expected her to be with her- I know she got lots of play time and snuggles. Being the first time, I was reassured with her texting and sending pictures. I will definitely have her watch Daisy again.

Dina took such good care of our fur babies! We had no worries while on vacation and she checked in with photos (and dressed our pups up for Fourth of July too!) We lost power at our house on the last day, and Dina was fantastic at keeping us updated and making sure our pups were safe! 💞

About: I have had pets my whole life, multiple dogs and cats to love and care for. I have pet sit for many family members and friends in the past because they know how much I love being around them. I’m currently working part time, so I have plenty of time to spend with all of the pups. My schedule can change around a bit, but I work around it and make sure I get plenty of time with the pets I make sure all of the home owner’s guidelines and rules for the pet/house are followed to a tee, and making sure it is just as the owner left it

About: Ever since I was a kid, I've always had a dog in my household. I enjoy the excitement and fun times that I share with them. I am a very loving, trustworthy, and respectable person to others and especially animals! Without having a dog in my everyday life I feel incomplete. I am known to consider animals feelings over people in my life, simply because animals are harmless creatures that just need to be loved and taken care of. I'd love to share my free time helping out others in the community by taking care of their own fury friends when they are unable to. I have two dogs myself and they are a very big part of my life. One goes to work daily, while the older boy stays quiet at home. I take daily walks for some good exercise and fresh air. I have a fenced yard and two very friendly dogs to keep your fur baby comfortable. I can easily crate if need be. I have plenty of space for exercise and separate areas for feeding.

About: I’ve grown up with both dogs and cats and have years of experience caring for animals. I truly love being around pets and understand how important it is to find someone dependable to care for them. I currently work fully remote, which gives me a very flexible schedule and allows me to provide attentive care and companionship for your pet. I am a very active person, so I usually go on a long walk or run in the mornings, which I would bring your dog on. I am a full-time student, so I would be at work during the days, but could come back during lunch if desired to let the dogs out, or leave them for about 8 hours. In the evening I would take them on another long walk or maybe to play at the beach. I am flexible and accommodating to individual needs! I would strictly follow the guidelines given to me by the owners with adding caution where I might see needed. For example I would be sure to never take their dog off leash unless we were in a very secure area and the owner had explicitly told me their dog was okay to be off leash in certain areas. I’m also happy to provide phone numbers of people I have pet sat for previously!

About: I’ve been taking care of dogs since I was 11 years old. I have walked, taken pups outside, fed them meals, kept them company and I’m able to do all of that for you and your puppies too! I currently work full time however my schedule allows me to still care for your puppies! The most amount of time I’ll be away at a time is 5-6 hours. I’m happy to chat about my schedule for the week you need me. I have 3 dogs who need much attention, I make sure by the end of the night they are out of energy by playing with them and running around outside. They love getting treats after dinner too and I’m sure your puppies will be just like mine, out of energy and happy!

FAQs for House Sitting - Old Saybrook

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Old Saybrook on Rover is $75.98 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 1,080 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Old Saybrook. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Old Saybrook walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Old Saybrook maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Old Saybrook choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Old Saybrook. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
