Alex was the best sitter for our dog April. She was super communicative and responsive. We felt so safe leaving April with Alex while traveling. We got updates whenever we needed on how April was doing. The love and care Alex had for April was so strong, we knew she was in the best hands. From the meet and greet to the final farewell, Alex treated April like her own. Alex also took great care of our house, leaving it just as clean as when we left. We couldn't be more grateful and thankful to Alex for taking such amazing care of April and giving her all the love and cuddles she needs. We look forward to booking with Alex again! Thank you!!!🙏🏼🤗🐶

She was super comfortable with Nheli (even during a rainstorm, which says something!) Nheli was responsive, and sent a bunch of adorable photos. Would love to work with her again!

Sierra stayed at my apartment in the BX to watch my 45lb rescue pittie for three weeks in May, and I highly recommend her! She was responsive and so generous coming all the way from NJ to meet my pup and me first and incredibly responsive before the day of. Every day she sent me text and/photo updates, and it was super clear my pup was very well cared for and loved. Coming back, pup was happy and healthy and the apartment was clean as I left it (thanks, Sierra!).

The dog was happy and the place was standing. In the end that's all that matters but a decent person who communicates well with an honest smile on their face and a personality to match makes the whole thing run smoother.

About: I started my experience dog walking 2 years ago for a professor’s friend in Winchester, Virginia. Twice a week, I would walk her hyper pups. She then recommended me to her father, whose dog I began walking twice a week as well. From there, my mini business boomed through word of mouth. I began dog sitting in people’s homes as well for multiple individuals for varying time spans. Most of the dogs I interacted with were seniors and required extensive care. However, all dogs owners loved and recommended me to others! I still walk the original dogs and add in others as my schedule allows with two other jobs. I am sad to leave my extensive clientele in Winchester, but I am moving back to New Jersey for graduate school and excited to meet new puppy friends!! For the summertime, I am incredibly flexible with nothing planned. I prefer weekly walks / drop ins, but also like sitting as well. In August, I start physical therapy school at Columbia University so my availability will decrease but I’d be willing to provide services on nights / weekends. During breaks, my availability will open up again! Whenever walking / sitting, I respect the owner’s rules, no matter what. I long to maintain utmost cleanliness and adherence to routine as physically possible. I am also very communicative and honest, building trust with my clients.

I booked a date with Esther and Jay so we could meet each other. I also thought it would give my cat an opportunity to become familiar with them. They arrived exactly on day and time we planned. Esther and Jay are warm and friendly and I found them a joy to have in my home. They asked good questions and I knew they would be wonderful caretakers for my cat. Now if I have to travel, I know my cat and my home will be well looked after.

About: I never anticipated become a dog dad. However, when my brother passed away 5 years ago, someone had to step up to take care of Hunter, the 3 year old lab who's life was just destroyed. Together, we have been there for each other through countless highs and lows while I do my best to give him the best life possible! My goal is to provide your pet with the above and beyond care that I would want someone to provide Hunter when I am not there to do so. This Summer, I plan to make myself available after 3pm on the weekdays, as I will be playing piano for some musicals in Westchester. Saturdays and Sundays I will be available all day long! I can't think of a better way to fill my weekend than spending time with your dogs! Pet safety is of the utmost concern, whether I'm caring for my own, or your precious child. When entering and exiting client's and pet's homes, I always exercise an abundance of caution and tranquility to ensure a peaceful visit from start to finish. What you can expect from my walks: lots of love, whatever enrichment they need, and a safe and fulfilling time for them!

About: I’ve spent years volunteering in different countries socializing, walking, and caring for all different breeds and sizes of dogs. I have genuine love and affection for every dog and their personalities and want them to get plenty of exercise and care to keep them happy and healthy. I”m currently working part time on weekends, so I will have plenty of time most weekdays for regular scheduling. I can commit to a regular routine as needed. I will happily create a positive space and relationship with any dog and make them feel genuine compassion and trust. I have plenty of space in my UV for safe transport if needed.

We are happy and satisfied with the three days that Keka has been house-sitting our pawlove Hazel. Sure they had quality time playing around the house and outside during their walk. On top of that she got to provide Hazel with some Training that she needed. We appreciate so much the time she spent with our Hazel. We will surely recommend her to our other paw parent friends and surely it won't be the last for Keka & Hazel.

Great experience! Communication was easy and consistent, and I felt very comfortable leaving my pets in her care. She went above and beyond — Rocket is currently going through a hard time and she cooked fresh meals for Rocket every day and was able to get him to eat without vomiting, which has been a big challenge for him. She was also wonderful with Luna and made sure both of them were well cared for. I really appreciated the updates and photos while I was away. They were clearly happy and comfortable. I would definitely book again and highly recommend her! 🐾

We are so grateful for the amazing care Alexandra gave our pets over Thanksgiving! She stayed in our home for a full week to look after our Rottie, Mini Schnauzer, and kitty, and she truly went above and beyond. She even checked in to ask if she could give them a little turkey on the holiday ~ which they were very excited about! Alexandra sent us pictures throughout our trip, giving us so much peace of mind, and we returned to three happy, relaxed animals. She also left our home clean and well cared for, which we deeply appreciated after traveling. We were extremely pleased with her service and will definitely be using her again in the future. My husband and I just came home with 2 puppies and were worried for our first day back to work. Michael made sure we had nothing to worry about. He texted us all day, sent photos, updates, provided above and beyond care to our puppies and is the most caring and kind person. We are so thankful we found Michael and are so lucky to have such a wonderful person to watch our pups with full care and attention for our 10 hour work days. He makes sure our puppies are safe and loved and we would recommend him to anyone needing excellent dog care.

FAQs for House Sitting - Hackensack

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Hackensack on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of June 2026, there are 18,821 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Hackensack. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Hackensack walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Hackensack maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Hackensack choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Hackensack. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
