“We couldn’t be happier with our experience! From the very beginning, we felt completely at ease knowing our dog, Zevs, was in such good hands. The level of care, attention, and genuine love he received was truly beyond our expectations. Throughout the entire stay, we received constant updates — photos, and little notes about how Zevs was doing each day. It meant so much to us to see him happy, relaxed, and having fun with the other dogs. It was obvious that he was not only well cared for but also genuinely enjoyed his time there. Zevs looked completely comfortable and settled, which says everything about the warm, calm, and loving environment he was in. We are incredibly grateful for the amazing communication, care, and effort. We’ll definitely be bringing Zevs back again — and recommending this sitter to everyone we know! Thank you for making our time away so much easier knowing our boy was safe, happy, and loved.”

Onyx lovesss going to Susan’s home! He saw me packing his night bag and immediately ran to the door haha! He has the best time and Susan takes great care of him and stays on top of his medication which I really appreciate. I always know that Onyx is in great hands at Susan’s house. Thanks again!

This was my first time having my dog stay with anyone not family. He immediately got along with Robert and was not anxious. When I picked him up, still upbeat attitude and no signs of distress. I could even hear him barking when I was walking towards the door on pickup day, which means he already considered Robert's place like home and was scaring off strangers 👍🏾. Robert was really easy to talk and coordinate with. He sent me photos if requested. He took the necessary precautions we discussed for my dog-aggressive dog, and didn't seem uncomfortable at any point.

Carolina is great with Zeke! She was able to take him for the week and provided wonderful updates. She gave him tons of playtime, walks, and he even ate normally (he usually does a hunger strike when he boards). So Zeke is very comfortable with her in her home & she has another Min Pin Zeke gets along with! Thanks to her for all her help and care for our furry child!

Christine was able to accommodate our very last minute need for boarding and was a wonderful caregiver for our older dog, Luna. She took her on multiple walks a day, managed her meds well and sent us daily updates with photos :) Christine’s love for animals is evident - she’s very kind and I will definitely keep her at the very top of our list for any future Luna-care needs.

We left our tiny (3.5 lbs) Chihuahua with Michelle and Otavio while we went to Japan for over a month. As soon as we left, he developed an ear infection. Michelle reached out to me right away to let us know. She made an appointment with our regular vet, took him to her (even though she is an hour away), and then gave him his medication for seven days. This is our third time having Michelle and Otavio watch Emerson. They’ve always taken such good care of him, I was not worried at all. The way they addressed this health issue was so impressive, I definitely hope to keep working with them in the future!

Alicia, was an outstanding host for our pups.she met us at a park before booking to get to know the dogs and had me over to her place so I could see where they would stay. I have two bigger dogs and one is a senior. She gave meds no problem. One of the pups was feeling sick from the extreme heat. She was quick to switch to a mild diet to keep him comfortable. She updated daily with photos and videos of how they were doing. I am not sure that you will find a more conscientious, loving, and communicative pet sitter. She was amazing.

Thank you so much, Esmirna, for taking such great care of Nadia! I was nervous about boarding her because I had never boarded a dog before, but Esmirna made the entire experience easy and stress-free. She was attentive and kind throughout Nadia’s stay. The updates and communication gave me peace of mind and helped ease my anxiety. It is clear that Esmirna is an animal lover and truly cares about every pet in her care. She treats them as if they were her own, and that made all the difference for me. Nadia had an absolute blast! She got plenty of playtime, made new friends, and even got to meet some cats. It was wonderful knowing she was having such a great time while I was away. I couldn’t have asked for a better first boarding experience. I would absolutely trust Esmirna with Nadia again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring, reliable, and loving sitter. Thank you again, Esmirna, for loving Nadia like your own! 🐾🩷

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in IL ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
