“Marissa went above and beyond for my dog. He had an upset stomach for several of the days she dropped in on him and she handled everything with grace. I highly recommend her as a rover.”

About: My name is Jana and I am a big time animal lover! I grew up with alaskan malamutes, hermit crabs, freshwater fish, and currently have 2 cats (Mactavish and Charley). I have experience with dogs and cats of all ages and sizes, with specifics in senior and large dogs. I currently am on summer break and not working, so my availability is open and super flexible! I am free from 7am-8pm Sunday-Friday! Because I have cats that live at my home, I cannot offer boarding. However, I am happy to do drop-ins at your home. I am always very respectful of the places I visit and can offer whatever care your pet needs.

About: Caring for pets has always been more than just a job for me—it's a passion. Over the years, I’ve gained hands-on experience with dogs of all ages, sizes, and temperaments. From playful puppies learning their first commands to senior dogs needing extra patience and care, I understand the unique attention each stage of life requires. What sets me apart from other sitters is my personalized approach. I take the time to learn each pet’s personality, preferences, and routine so they feel safe and comfortable in my care. I’m experienced with basic puppy training, leash manners, and crate training. For older pets, I provide gentle, attentive support—whether that means administering medication, helping with mobility, or simply offering lots of love and companionship. I believe communication is key, so I always keep pet parents updated with photos and notes to ensure peace of mind while you're away. Your pet’s safety and happiness are my top priorities, and I treat every animal as if they were my own. I work in IT from home, which gives me a very flexible schedule and allows me to be available throughout the day for pet care. Whether it’s regular walks, playtime, feeding, or just keeping your pet company, I can easily fit their needs into my daily routine. When caring for pets in your home, I treat your space—and your pet—with the same respect and attention I give my own. I follow your routines closely, whether that’s feeding schedules, walks, medication, or house rules, to keep your dog comfortable and stress-free. I understand how important trust is when someone enters your home, and I always communicate clearly, keep things tidy, and send regular updates so you feel at ease while you're away. Your pet’s safety and comfort come first. I pay close attention to their behavior and needs, and I’m happy to accommodate special requests or routines to help them feel secure. Whether your dog needs quiet companionship, active playtime, or just a calm presence while you're gone, I provide reliable, loving care every time.
“Melanie took excellent care of our kitty over the Christmas holiday. Our girl is very clingy and craves attention, so we always get nervous when we have to go out of town. Melanie was very flexible and easy to work with (which I know can be difficult during the holidays!) and always responded quickly to every message. Most importantly, she took the very best care of Penny, following all the instructions we left and making sure to give her the love and attention she needs. Melanie went above and beyond and I wouldn’t hesitate to turn to her again for our next trip.”
About: I have been caring for my 13 year old dog, Molly, for 11 years. I am also an active volunteer at the county animal shelter, working with dogs (1,000+ hours) and cats (400+ hours). I have a special place in my heart for dogs with behavioral and medical needs, and working with them at the shelter has taught me patience and skills that help to make the animals more comfortable. I also have training in puppy care, senior dog care, walking leash-sensitive dogs, and caring for injured animals. The time I get to spend with dogs is the most fun I have doing anything, and I take a lot of pride in caring for them with the appropriate level of attention and patience they need. I work remotely and have a flexible schedule, so I am available to walk and care dogs at a variety of hours. The length of walks is up to you and your dog-- I am happy to do short walks or longer outings depending on what you need! I am happy to refer you to references (animal shelter staff and volunteers) who can attest to my dog-handling skills and my ability to work with dogs from a variety of backgrounds. The safety of your pet and your home always come first, and I am very comfortable taking any steps needed to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
About: What can I say, I am an absolute animal lover! and I am sure your dog would have a great time with me! I have had animals my whole life and love to shower them with care and affection! I am local teacher with a lot of extra time on my hands for the summer. I love to go on long hikes and adventures or just hangout in my grassy fenced in backyard. Whatever your pet desires, I can make it happen! I live alone but do share my yard with two cats. Not only do I have years of owning my own pets, I also have years of experience volunteering at animal shelters. Working there I have learned some behavioral training techniques, though I am not fully a professional trainer. I am a full time teacher with summers off. I am single with no kids. I have availability in the mornings & afternoons and full availability in the summer. I have a fenced in yard and a pet friendly environment inside my house with no other pets. When at other houses I treat them with care and respect.
About: I currently have a pet cat and dog. I've had them for two years. I understand that both are completely different and have different needs. I'm able to work well with both (: I make sure to take my dog on daily walks as well as giving her baths when needed. I also set aside time for quality time / cuddle / play time for my pets every day. In my home, our pets are treated like family members. Their safety is very important to me. I make sure they get their exercise in, stay clean, eat well, and get the attention they need!
“Miranda was absolutely the best rover! My cats were well cared for and I didn’t doubt they were in good hands. The photos and updates were very much appreciated. Would absolutely hire Miranda again.”

“Excellent job again with my reactive guy. He was calm after she left which has not always been the case with dog sitters after they leave. She takes time to mellow him out and it pays off. Very grateful for your kindness and care for my pup <3”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs, big and small alike all my life. I grew up with a boxer and a golden retriever in the home so I’m accustomed to the joy of having pets in the house. More recently I’ve pet sat for families who have homes in Europe, and would go visit during the holidays. I’ve been caring for this elderly dog in particular for over 10 years. He’s a sweet tempered dog but takes medicine everyday so I’ve become well adept at hiding his meds inconspicuously to get him to eat it without any problems. I also love working with puppies and find that caring for younger dogs is a lot of fun, and is exciting too! I love aussies, border collies, and spaniels but find that I can get along with just about any breed. I’m the type of person to always stop to ask to pet your dog on walks, and love showering dogs with affection and love. One of my favorite past times, is letting a dog run free off leash, and play frisbee with him or her. I’d love to provide loving, friendly, and fun care to your furry friend and I look forward to our first paw-shake! Currently in school, but available after and before classes start-and free on weekends! I’m in school, but I have plenty of time to run around and meet your pets. I would look forward to days pet sitting, or walking, and would love to meet you and your pets! I care for pets mainly in your home, I find it easiest because some pets can get flustered in new environments. I strive to get to know them and build trust by being in their home turf to see all their favorite toys, and where they feel most comfortable. I look forward to seeing how they play and grow at their most comfortable!
About: Hello! I’ve spent years taking care of pets of my own, as well as for friends, neighbors, on Rover and Trusted Housesitters. I’ve looked after big and small dogs, cats, bunnies, fish, and kids of all ages. I really love being around animals and getting to know their different personalities. They always bring so much joy and fun energy. I take caring for other people’s pets as a big responsibility and always want them to feel safe, happy, and loved while their owners are away. My past references have said kind things about my reliability, communication, and the care I give to their pets, which means a lot to me. I’m always happy to send photo or video updates so you can see how your pets are doing. I know how much peace of mind that can bring. I’d love the chance to meet your pets and make sure they’re well taken care of while you’re gone. 🐾 I am available anytime on Sat-Mon, and on weekdays from 5:30-8pm. Currently working at an elementary school nutrition office from 8-5pm Tues-Fri every week. Outside of my work hours, my availability is very flexible. My services include drop-ins and in-home care such as feeding, walking, and brushing pets, but I’m also happy to help with any other needs to keep them comfortable and happy.
“Wonderful care, as always! Tula is an old lady now, but AnnMarie is so sweet and attentive to her needs. She always goes above and beyond to make sure our kitty is comfortable and safe, and our house is always well-cared for. We so appreciate the job well done!!”

About: As a massage therapist for over 25 years, I have worked on horses, cats, and dogs as well as people. I include FREE therapeutic massage to pets I care for. I've always had a dog and have been very honored to work with and care for dogs. I have owned and worked with dominant breed dogs, sharing with their owners how to support best behavior when asked. I understand canine psychology and genuinely love dogs. When I work, it's online via Zoom so I am available to be physically present for your animal(s) 100%. I am an avid hiker/ walker and I'm up early. I enjoy playing with and giving them attention. I have a calm presence which puts animals at ease, yet I understand how to manage challenging behaviors, should they arise. I follow your requests and preferences. I walk dogs early and usually at least twice a day. I maintain awareness and listen for signs to take them outside to go potty or walk, allowing them to sniff around. Once dogs realize I'm a 'pack leader' they usually feel more safe and challenges disappear. Right now I am not able to have a dog in my home. Thank you for sharing your fur-baby with me while you are away.

Cat parents share their Rover experiences - Capitola
We LOVE Melanie! As former pet sitters ourselves, our standards are pretty high— none of the other Rover sitters we’d tried in the past had quite met them until Melanie! We unexpectedly had to delay our trip by a day because we got sick. Melanie promptly accommodated this change and sent along such a thoughtful message. We knew right away we were dealing with a true professional! Melanie’s attentiveness stood out right from our meet-and-greet. She didn't just ask what our cats' favorite toys were—she asked how they each liked to play with their toys. We showed Melanie our cat Plum's exercise wheel and mentioned that her favorite way to use it is with someone jogging alongside her. We never expected a sitter to adopt our silly little routine, but Melanie jogged next to her at every visit! It was no surprise to hear that Plum was greeting Melanie at the door and rubbing against her for pets by the end of our time away. Our other cat, Lyra, is a little more wary of new people, but Melanie is extremely well versed in cat body language and boundaries, and took that into account when interacting with the less-trusting Lyra. Even if Lyra wasn’t fully on board with the whole “new person” idea, she still chose to hang out nearby Melanie at all of her visits, which told us she felt safe. As anxious pet owners, we like updates that are as detailed as possible with lots of pictures. Melanie delivered in spades, providing sweet and thoughtful visit summaries with 25+ photos per visit. Her summaries went beyond the basic tasks of the visit— she let us know how our cats greeted her, how much they were eating, if they wanted pets, what toys they played with, and her sense how our babies were doing overall. Most importantly, she let us know they were LOVED. We look forward to hiring Melanie again soon!

Shylynn is always an impressive and amazing sitter! Our cats (and the neighbors cats) all love her. She has an amazing way with animals. We know they are in safe hands whenever she cares for them. She always goes above and beyond We would highly recommend her services!

Nicole took care of my cats when I had to go out of town last minute for Memorial Day weekend. She arrived each evening to feed them, clean the litter box, play, and fill their waters. She was prompt and kept everything clean, and she even got my super shy kitty to come out and play & made sure he ate! I would definitely recommend booking Nicole if you need pet care.

Grace was amazing!! It was clear that our cats really liked her during our meet and greet. During the sit, she left detailed report cards and sent many photos. Our cats were in great hands. She’s really on top of everything and I felt at east while away. I’d recommended her for sure! :))

Yuliya is definitely a cat person, and our cats took to her right away! Our older cat Plum can be a little prickly if overstimulated, so seeing pictures of her rubbing up against Yuliya’s leg made me feel secure that my cat felt comfortable and safe. We also loved seeing photos of our younger, more active cat Lyra getting plenty of play time and affection. She understood and expressed the importance of routines for cats, especially when their people are away, and her care for our cats reflected that. Our cats have a fairly complicated food routine, and Yuliya did well adhering to it. Part way through our trip, she noticed that one of our cat’s food was running low, let us know, and even measured out how many portions were left to ensure there would be enough to last the rest of our trip. We are the type of cat owners who appreciate very detailed visit summaries, and it would’ve been great to have had a little more of that, but we did receive lots of photos and enough written updates to feel that our cats were in safe and caring hands. Thank you, Yuliya!

Wonderful care, as always! Tula is an old lady now, but AnnMarie is so sweet and attentive to her needs. She always goes above and beyond to make sure our kitty is comfortable and safe, and our house is always well-cared for. We so appreciate the job well done!!

Terra was great. She understood my cat needed space while I was away and adhered to all of my requests. I was not able to do a meet and greet and she stepped in without an issue by talking it over on the phone. She made me feel comfortable leaving my baby with her. I’d recommend her and hire her again.

Makayla was a great sitter. She sent me pictures which really helped me while I was out of town. She gave my cat the space he needed and he felt very comfortable going about his routine with her. He had 3 times a day feedings with special instructions to open windows for him and let him go on my porch when she got there so he can eat grass and get a little fresh air. She followed them all to make my boy as comfortable as can be. My recommendation is to definitely hire her if she’s available. Thank you Makayla!

Haley is so great and does such a wonderful job watching our cat (Tiny). This our second time booking with Haley and she is very nice, communicative, and easy to work with. We will definitely be booking with Haley in the future any time we have to leave Tiny at home.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Capitola. On Rover:

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
