“Thank you for taking care of our 7 month old puppy. Lillian was wonderful and really gave me a peace of mind on caring for boxer puppy. We will absolutely reach out to her again.”

“Marissa went above and beyond for my dog. He had an upset stomach for several of the days she dropped in on him and she handled everything with grace. I highly recommend her as a rover.”

“Kit was awesome! Always showed up on time and was a great communicator. She did a great jobs tending to our kitty’s special needs. We had a lot of peace of mind knowing she was well taken care of. Will definitely use her again in the future.”

About: Over the course of my life I have owned, raised and cared for dogs (Husky + Pitbull mutt, Lab and Chihuahua), chickens, quail, fish, lizards and cats. I'm very organized when it comes to scheduling, I've attached a screenshot of my weekly schedule from January1 - March 20th. I'll have my schedule for April-June posted by the end of March. I'm constantly updating my available times on the app and will stay in communication if scheduling problems come up. I'm a very flexible person as well, I usually don't mind driving if locations change or re-scheduling. Any pet in my care will have my utmost attention and loads of affection, and I welcome your detailed instructions as to how you’d like your pet cared for. I'm very conscious about having a safe environment, making sure any trash or choking hazards are out of reach, as well as closely monitoring outside time.
“Miranda was absolutely the best rover! My cats were well cared for and I didn’t doubt they were in good hands. The photos and updates were very much appreciated. Would absolutely hire Miranda again.”

“Jasmine does an excellent job with my dog; and he adores her. She is one of the only people who can get him to eat consistently; even more than I can! If it was possible for me, I’d have her check on my dog even more!”

“Shylynn is my go-to sitter for my cat, Sophie, and she is the very best! She’s very communicative with daily updates, highly attentive and caring towards Sophie, goes above and beyond every visit. I highly recommend her!”

About: My name is Jennie. I grew up on a farm in Eastern Washington. We had tons of animals, including many different types of dogs, big and small. We regularly took in rescue animals and pets with special needs. I now live in Santa Cruz, and I have a sixteen year old muggin (pug/min-pin) named Genghis. I'm new to the area, and I'm looking to work with pets of all types. I have regular and occasional availability. I offer dog walking, petsitting and house-sitting services. I am experienced with animals of all ages and stages, from puppies and kittens, to senior cats and pups. I am able to administer oral and topical medications, and I am happy to offer health monitoring for pets who are under veterinary care. While I do not offer full grooming services, basic bathing is in my wheel house. Whatever your pets need to be happy, healthy, and comfortable is what I want to provide! I know that trusting someone with your pet is a big decision. In an effort to offer greater security to my clients, I maintain my own pet/housesitter insurance policy, independent from any coverage provided by Rover. My schedule is very flexible. I am new to the area, and I'm looking to establish both regularly scheduled and occasional clients. For petsitting clients, I can be available for 2 visits per day. For walks, I accept same day appointments, as well as recurring advanced bookings. I aim to always provide the same level of loving care to pets as their humans would, if they were home. To this end, I like to get detailed instructions regarding feeding schedule, play preferences, and personality. It is my commitment to my clients to follow their instructions to the letter. When it comes to adventures outside of the home, safety is my #1 priority. I want your pups to have a great time, and to do that, they've got to be safe. For this reason, I do not take pups to off leash areas, when other dogs are present. There are just far too many risks to take into account with unfamiliar dogs around. Keeping dogs on-leash in group settings offers me a greater amount of control and ability to protect them, in the even that we are approached by another unfamiliar dog while out and about.

“Excellent job again with my reactive guy. He was calm after she left which has not always been the case with dog sitters after they leave. She takes time to mellow him out and it pays off. Very grateful for your kindness and care for my pup <3”

About: Caring for animals has always been part of my life. I grew up surrounded by pets of all kinds, including dogs, cats, birds with feathers, fish with fins, and even those with scales. That early exposure gave me a deep comfort and appreciation for animals of every personality and species. I am recently retired, which gives me the flexibility to be fully present and available for pet care when needed. My schedule allows me to accommodate walks, drop-ins, overnights, and extended stays without the constraints of a traditional workday. This flexibility means your pets receive consistent attention, timely care, and a calm, unhurried presence while you are away. When caring for pets in my home, they become part of an active, dog-friendly neighborhood with plenty to explore. I live just 1.5 blocks from the beach and close to great walking spots like Arana Gulch, the park at the end of Schwan Lake, and a nearby dog park only minutes away. Dogs in my care enjoy fresh air, fun walks, and plenty of playtime balanced with calm downtime at home. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I focus on maintaining their normal routines so they feel safe and comfortable in familiar surroundings.
“Julia is a wonderful person! She is kind, thoughtful, and connected to our exuberant puppies immediately! We felt very comfortable with her caring for them. Thank you, Julia, for being so fabulous!”

“Melanie took excellent care of our kitty over the Christmas holiday. Our girl is very clingy and craves attention, so we always get nervous when we have to go out of town. Melanie was very flexible and easy to work with (which I know can be difficult during the holidays!) and always responded quickly to every message. Most importantly, she took the very best care of Penny, following all the instructions we left and making sure to give her the love and attention she needs. Melanie went above and beyond and I wouldn’t hesitate to turn to her again for our next trip.”

Cat parents share their Rover experiences - Opal Cliffs
We LOVE Melanie! As former pet sitters ourselves, our standards are pretty high— none of the other Rover sitters we’d tried in the past had quite met them until Melanie! We unexpectedly had to delay our trip by a day because we got sick. Melanie promptly accommodated this change and sent along such a thoughtful message. We knew right away we were dealing with a true professional! Melanie’s attentiveness stood out right from our meet-and-greet. She didn't just ask what our cats' favorite toys were—she asked how they each liked to play with their toys. We showed Melanie our cat Plum's exercise wheel and mentioned that her favorite way to use it is with someone jogging alongside her. We never expected a sitter to adopt our silly little routine, but Melanie jogged next to her at every visit! It was no surprise to hear that Plum was greeting Melanie at the door and rubbing against her for pets by the end of our time away. Our other cat, Lyra, is a little more wary of new people, but Melanie is extremely well versed in cat body language and boundaries, and took that into account when interacting with the less-trusting Lyra. Even if Lyra wasn’t fully on board with the whole “new person” idea, she still chose to hang out nearby Melanie at all of her visits, which told us she felt safe. As anxious pet owners, we like updates that are as detailed as possible with lots of pictures. Melanie delivered in spades, providing sweet and thoughtful visit summaries with 25+ photos per visit. Her summaries went beyond the basic tasks of the visit— she let us know how our cats greeted her, how much they were eating, if they wanted pets, what toys they played with, and her sense how our babies were doing overall. Most importantly, she let us know they were LOVED. We look forward to hiring Melanie again soon!

Shylynn is always an impressive and amazing sitter! Our cats (and the neighbors cats) all love her. She has an amazing way with animals. We know they are in safe hands whenever she cares for them. She always goes above and beyond We would highly recommend her services!

Nicole took care of my cats when I had to go out of town last minute for Memorial Day weekend. She arrived each evening to feed them, clean the litter box, play, and fill their waters. She was prompt and kept everything clean, and she even got my super shy kitty to come out and play & made sure he ate! I would definitely recommend booking Nicole if you need pet care.

Grace was amazing!! It was clear that our cats really liked her during our meet and greet. During the sit, she left detailed report cards and sent many photos. Our cats were in great hands. She’s really on top of everything and I felt at east while away. I’d recommended her for sure! :))

Wonderful care, as always! Tula is an old lady now, but AnnMarie is so sweet and attentive to her needs. She always goes above and beyond to make sure our kitty is comfortable and safe, and our house is always well-cared for. We so appreciate the job well done!!

Terra was great. She understood my cat needed space while I was away and adhered to all of my requests. I was not able to do a meet and greet and she stepped in without an issue by talking it over on the phone. She made me feel comfortable leaving my baby with her. I’d recommend her and hire her again.

Makayla was a great sitter. She sent me pictures which really helped me while I was out of town. She gave my cat the space he needed and he felt very comfortable going about his routine with her. He had 3 times a day feedings with special instructions to open windows for him and let him go on my porch when she got there so he can eat grass and get a little fresh air. She followed them all to make my boy as comfortable as can be. My recommendation is to definitely hire her if she’s available. Thank you Makayla!

Haley is so great and does such a wonderful job watching our cat (Tiny). This our second time booking with Haley and she is very nice, communicative, and easy to work with. We will definitely be booking with Haley in the future any time we have to leave Tiny at home.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Opal Cliffs. On Rover:

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
