We had such an a great experience with Emily! She took amazing care of both our dogs and our home. From the moment she arrived, she bonded with our dogs so quickly, which gave us a lot of peace of mind. She followed their routine exactly and kept everything running smoothly while we were away. On top of that, she was incredibly clean and respectful of our space. She went above and beyond. We would absolutely book her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, thoughtful, and trustworthy sitter.

About: I've taken care of pets since before I could remember! Dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs etc etc. I am great at reading the room, entertaining each personality, and catering to specific needs. I have done all the tricks to get pets to eat their food, dispersed medication, and even trained cats to sit + spin! My dearest cat lived to 21, I know how to help with seniors, disabled, and medically needy! I am currently working part time, so I am very flexible and can devote lots of time to the pets! I am available to go to your house whenever is needed (weekdays and weekends alike). I will be able to attend to any specific needs your unique little fella has! I am great at respecting boundaries and reading animal behavior to create a safe and comfortable environment.

Lupita is incredible. Our dog is very sweet but can be difficult when away from us due to separation anxiety. Lupita is patient and definitely a dog whisperer. The pics she sent us while we were out showed that he was able to relax with her. She earned his trust enough that he was willing to eat his food while we were out, which is not a usual occurrence. Lupita is also extremely responsive via the app, which is very much appreciated. Will definitely be using her again!

I reached out to Mamoo last minute for a sudden trip out of town, and they were absolutely amazing! They dropped everything to help out on short notice and took wonderful care of my two dogs. I got regular updates and came home to happy pups and a clean house. I’m so grateful for their flexibility and attention to detail. I’d definitely book with them again in the future!

Emily was great! Abe was a happy boy when I got home.... place was very clean and organized, and sheets were put in the washing machine! Her communication was excellent - every day I got a pic and quick update. She noticed him licking his paw and saw it was red, so we were able to get some wipes to clean it which she did daily until I got home. Look forward to booking again!

Isabella was so great with Alfie! She communicated well, kept me updated with photos, and most importantly Alfie loves her. He’s recently rescued and has some quirks and she kept me updated on his progress and any issues he had. She stayed with him at my apartment for about a week and when I came back the apartment was cleaner than I left it. I cannot recommend her highly enough!

About: Hello, friend!!! I have been housesitting and caring for other's pets, homes, and gardens since my teen years. As a writer I spend a lot of time working from home, meaning that I will largely be available throughout the day to give your pets all the attention they need and ease the discomfort of having their loved one (you!) away for a while. Staying attuned to an animal's needs comes naturally for me as it brings me fulfillment as well. Cats are my absolute favorite - I have had a cat as a companion in every stage of my life and cared for many more. I have cared for many dogs as well, but mostly quieter dogs with a "cat-like" demeanor. I have sensory sensitives so I am unable to care for younger and more energetic dogs that bark a lot. (Barking because excited for certain activities is expected and fine, though). Other pets I have owned and cared for include smaller pets such as goldfish, bearded dragons, hermit crabs, snakes, and tarantulas. I have great respect for what a home means and treat every space I am in with reverence, keeping it clean and cared for. I also have light experience gardening and am comfortable watering a mass of plants! I have housesat several locations that have an entire array of potted plants. I always make sure they are well tended to and kept as lively as ever! A little bit about me - I am a 35 year old writer and performance artist. (They/them pronouns). I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, and attended college in Santa Fe, New Mexico where I received my BA in Creative Writing and Literature. I remained in the beautiful high desert for close to a decade in earlier adulthood. The culture and gorgeous landscapes of both Northern California and New Mexico have deeply informed who I am. I've also worked in childcare and children's entertainment. Being a caretaker has always come naturally to me and often brings me a sense of fulfillment. Some of my favorite activities (other than writing and performing) are hiking, reading, dancing, reading tarot, and making art. Any of my close loved ones will tell you I am a calm, kind, humorous, intelligent, and thoughtful person who approaches all things in life from the heart and with great intention. I can't wait to meet you and give your beloved pets the attention and love they deserve while you go on your next great adventure! Since I mostly work from home writing, pet care easily fits into my daily schedule. Occasionally, I have live performances and community events but when I am needed all day elsewhere I typically know well in advance and can communicate with you effectively to make sure this housesit is still a good fit for both of us and especially your beloved pet! All pet care will take place in your home, so I will keep your pets' routine as stated, ensuring that nothing is disrupted for them aside from your departure. Plants and home will also be cared for as you would care for it. Cleanliness is part of my values, so you can expect your home to be as organized and neat as you left it. I do not do deep cleaning such as vacuuming unless previously negotiated.

Jonathan was awesome! He took great care of our dogs while we had a fun weekend in Tahoe. He took incredible pictures and updated us frequently. The dogs were instantly comfortable with him and snuggled right in. They went for plenty of walks and the dogs were happy and tired when we returned home. Jonathan was really great about asking questions and following special instructions for our dog Otis, as he is recovering from TPLO surgery. The house was also quite clean and orderly upon our return. I will definitely be asking Jonathan to come hang out with our dogs again!

Ellie is a cat whisperer. In our first meeting, she connected with Bamboo. When I returned, 2 weeks later, I saw that he loved her. Ellie cared for my cat, my house, and my garden. Just as we were leaving, I discovered that my cat needed antibiotics. Ellie took on the added responsibility with ease. Knowing I had left my property and cat in the care of a competent and caring sitter made my trip more enjoyable.

We were visiting from out of town and needed someone we could truly trust with our dogs, especially because they struggle with pretty bad separation anxiety. Melanie was an absolute dream. She came to stay with them so we could explore the local area, and from the moment she arrived, I felt completely comfortable. Her communication was perfect — great updates, adorable photos, and such a kind, calm presence. My dogs adored her, and she handled their anxiety with so much patience and sweetness. She’s incredibly easy to work with, reliable, and genuinely caring. I would book her again in a heartbeat. If you’re looking for someone who treats your pets like her own, Melanie is the one.

FAQs for House Sitting - Capitola

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Capitola on Rover is $83.76 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 3,003 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Capitola. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Capitola walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Capitola maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Capitola choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Capitola. On Rover:

  • 91% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
