“Lupita was great with our two dogs. Our dogs have some special needs and she was fantastic with them and gave us nice little updates on how they were doing while we were gone.”

About: Throughout my younger years at home beginning in middle school, I have been the neighborhoods pet sitter. Whether it was dog walking, cat sitting, and even duck sitting, I was always happy to help. Growing up I always had a special place in my heart for animals. I had everything ranging from a tortoise to a pet rabbit and of course a dog. Growing up in Santa Cruz, I have always enjoyed having an active lifestyle and love getting outside with both high-energy dogs and senior pets who need a slower pace. As someone who played multiple sports all throughout High School, I have become especially good at my time management skill's especially when others are relying on me. As a second-year Agriculture Business student at Cal Poly, I am a dependable, organized, and committed person who takes jobs seriously. You can expect clear communication, updates with both texts and photos, and someone who will give your pet not just the exercise, but also all the love and attention they need to keep them happy and safe. With a shorter Summer this year, I have a ton of free time and am open to dog walking, house sitting, or if needed just drop-in visits. I am available on pretty much all weekdays as well as all day on weekends. Anytime you need a helping hand you can count on me to be there. During walks your pets safety and comfort is my top priority. I always stay aware of my surroundings especially if your dog is more sensitive to others I will make sure to cross the street or do what’s needed to keep your dog in the best hands possible. I also adjust my pacing based on your dogs energy and comfort levels. I am also comfortable handling big or strong dogs keeping them securely leashed unless instructed otherwise. For drop-in visits or house sitting I always follow instructions carefully making sure to go over anything with you I am not 100% sure about before I begin, in order to maintain your pets routine and minimize stress on your pet. I also respect your home and property as if it were my own and will provide consistent updates and photos so you feel comfortable and confident in your pets safety. I just got done with my Freshman year at Cal Poly and have a ton of time this Summer for dog walking and/ or dog sitting. I take my dog on daily beach walks and hikes as well as throw him the ball daily. I am more than willing to stay at my clients house and take care of their pets.

“Andrea is great! She’s watched my minipoodle while I worked late. She’s reliable, punctual and is a great communicator. My dog automatically felt comfortable with her and is always calm when I return home. I will be using her again!”

“Rebeca did an amazing job house sitting and caring for our reactive dog, Ginger. From the moment we met her, it was clear that she was patient, attentive, and genuinely cared about Ginger's well-being. Caring for a reactive dog requires extra understanding and compassion, and Rebeca handled everything beautifully. She kept us updated throughout our trip with pictures and the sweetest stories about Ginger's day, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. When we returned home, Ginger was happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. Our house was also in great shape. We are incredibly grateful for the love and attention Rebeca gave to Ginger and would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, and responsible pet sitter. We will absolutely book with her again!”

About: I have taken care and have 2 dogs/ 1 cat of my own that I actively care for. Also I have taken care of my family friends farm with all kinds of animals for days on end including walking, feeding, letting them out and in, etc. I also just love animals and love taking care of them! I work part time but normally only 4 hour shifts so i’m very flexible and can visit your animals multiple times throughout the day as well as working. I also only work around 3 days a week so i’m very available for the most part! In my home my dad has a service dog who is very well trained and also has a crate your pup could go in. We also have 2 older dogs with a fenced in outdoor area for them and a doggy door that gives them free access if going inside and out.
About: Hello! I’ve spent years taking care of pets of my own, as well as for friends, neighbors, on Rover and Trusted Housesitters. I’ve looked after big and small dogs, cats, bunnies, fish, and kids of all ages. I really love being around animals and getting to know their different personalities. They always bring so much joy and fun energy. I take caring for other people’s pets as a big responsibility and always want them to feel safe, happy, and loved while their owners are away. My past references have said kind things about my reliability, communication, and the care I give to their pets, which means a lot to me. I’m always happy to send photo or video updates so you can see how your pets are doing. I know how much peace of mind that can bring. I’d love the chance to meet your pets and make sure they’re well taken care of while you’re gone. 🐾 I am generally available Sat-Sun, and on weekdays after 4:30pm. Currently, I work at an elementary school from 8-4:30pm Mon-Fri every week. Outside of my work hours, my availability is very flexible. My services include drop-ins and in-home care such as feeding, walking, and brushing pets, but I’m also happy to help with any other needs to keep them comfortable and happy.
“We had the pleasure of rebooking Mamu for a two week trip, and once again, they did a wonderful job caring for my high energy dog. Mamu is incredibly thoughtful and attentive by sending daily pictures and videos but also going the extra mile to care for my dog's specific needs. They have been working with my dog on his leash pulling. Mamu isn't just watching over your furry friend, but they truly engages with them and wants to help them thrive. Mamu is also very observant and always quick to communicate if something seems off or needs attention. My dog absolutely ADORES Mamu. If you’re lucky enough to book with Mamu, know that your pet, home and your peace of mind are in the best hands.”

“Oleksandr was great! My 2 small dogs usually sleep with us at night, but when we were away, they instantly loved Oleksandr and slept with him every night. He even bought them a new toy to play fetch with them! I will definitely be asking him to come house sit for us again.”

“Lillian was fantastic! She very quickly got Lenny - my shy (at first) beloved pussy cat - entirely comfortable by spending time with him under the bed :) She played with him, kept him company, made sure he got home safely after doing his rounds outside, sent lots of updates and pics, thoroughly cleaned up his "gift" to her (not a pretty sight), and left the place a treat to return to. Can't say enough good things about Lillian.”

“Vlad was kind, attentive, and very trustworthy with my precious dog, Melody. I have a hard time trusting people with her care, and Vlad exceeded my expectations and did such a wonderful time. Was very thoughtful and communicative. I will work with him again.”

“Celeste was a great house and dogsitter. She is a tremendous communicator. She was so conscientious and made sure that our dog's routine was kept and that more important that he was given lots of love and attention. She left the house in great condition. We would definitely use her again!”

“We had an amazing experience with AnnMarie! She took such wonderful care of our golden retriever puppy and sent frequent pictures and updates that gave us so much peace of mind. Our puppy was clearly happy, loved, and well cared for the entire time. She also kept the house incredibly clean and tidy, which we truly appreciated coming home to. We felt completely comfortable trusting her with both our home and our pet, and we wouldn’t hesitate to book her again or recommend her to anyone looking for a fantastic sitter.”

“Teresa is awesome! We were traveling in the Santa Cruz area and needed an extended sitter and she was fabulous. She is super timely to respond and a joy to work with. We are so grateful we found Teresa!”
“Isabella was so great with Alfie! She communicated well, kept me updated with photos, and most importantly Alfie loves her. He’s recently rescued and has some quirks and she kept me updated on his progress and any issues he had. She stayed with him at my apartment for about a week and when I came back the apartment was cleaner than I left it. I cannot recommend her highly enough!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Monte Toyon
Lillian took care of our three pups in our home for a week and she was truly wonderful! She was so sweet with our three dogs and they clearly loved her. She sent daily update texts with pictures and she kept the gardens watered and the house was neat as a pin when we got home. We were able to really relax and enjoy our vacation knowing she was taking such good care of them. If you’re looking for a reliable, mature, responsible, kind person to housesit and take care of your pets, you couldn’t find anyone better than Lillian!

Kat was very friendly and professional, and most importantly our dog loves her. She spoiled him and took him on his favorite walk (he is strong and a pain to walk but she knew how to handle him and was not intimidated by it at all). she sent us pictures and I felt totally at ease while we were away knowing she was taking care of Rocco. I came home to a clean house and a very content dog so we will definitely use her again!

Robert is great! He has watched my mini poodle several times a week over the last couple of months. He is always reliable and is great working with my schedule. He is very friendly with my dog and allows him to feel comfortable while I’m away. I highly recommend him!

Sherry was very focused on Charlie’s daily routine. She asked the right questions and continued with the commands that my trainer instilled. The house looked good and she cared for it as if it was her own. I will use her again and recommend her to those who especially have a larger dog like my Charlie, a 70+lb golden.

Nieves did a great job watching our very anxious 14 year old dog named Boy! He usually will skip a meal or two when someone watches him for the first time, but he actually cleaned his plate the first time that she watched him and he was willing to go on a walk with her. Your pets will be in good hands with Nieves!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Monte Toyon walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Monte Toyon maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Monte Toyon choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
