“Jax was a wonderful pet sitter to our 3 babies! We are always nervous because are dog is anxious and requires patience and certain level of attention - but Jax handled her wonderfully. We returned home to happy & safe pets and a clean home. Thank you so much!”

“Dan was able to help on very short notice. My dog is older and there was not a lot required but she liked Dan and was affection with them which is not always the case.”

“Julia was amazing with our dogs! One of our dogs has serious separation anxiety and she was able to calm him down with cuddles and love within minutes after we left. She sent amazing updates about how the dogs were doing through out her stay and when we got home our dogs seemed sad to see her leave. We will be booking her again in the future !!”

“Jose was a fantastic in-house sitter for my Labrador Retriever, she took to him immediately and he was a great communicator, sending plenty of updates and pics. He left my house neat as a pin, I will definitely utilize his services again!”

“Chloe was fantastic! Super communicative and proactive, and did a great job sending me daily pictures. My dog also clearly loved her. My dog is very reactive around other dogs too so not always easy to handle. Plus Chloe left my house super clean and tidy. Wouldn’t hesitate to call her again and would definitely recommend her for dog sitting or any related service.”

“Ashley stayed in our home and was great with our dog for our week away - she came by to visit before the stay, sent us a bunch of pictures an updates and we could tell he was a happy guy! Very respectful of both our home and our dog’s routines. We were thrilled that he had such a great experience and highly recommend her services. Will have her back again!”

“Abbigail and Cody were so great with my animals. I’m so happy to have found them on here. My dog has quite a personality and absolutely adores them. Will be booking again because I feel confident he will be happy and safe when they are around. Really great people.”

About: I’ve had my own dog now for about 6 years. I’ve house-sat and dog sat on/off for the last ten years or so. I love animals so much and I will treat your pet like it is my own! I’m a teacher—I typically let my dog use the bathroom each morning in the back yard and then give him 1-2 walks when I get off ~3. I have a fenced in back yard and plenty of room for a crate if you want your dog crated while I’m away! At your home, I’m willing to field lm what your routine is!
“Jeanmarie does such a great job with our dog and our parrot. Our dog really loves Jeanmarie and our parrot shows her love with extra singing with Jeanmarie is there. She left our house in great shape and communicated regularly with us. We have used Jeanmarie in the past and would use her again!”

“Mike was extremely communicative and took great care of our house and baby Mattie. He took her on lots of walks and gave lots of updates throughout the weekend. Thank you Mike!”
“Tiffany stayed at our house for a week taking care of our special needs dogs with medicine administration requirements, including liquid syringe oral administration. Our house was spotless and our dogs were happy. She sent tons of photos every day. She did a great job, highly recommend.”

About: Though I have worked with animals my whole life, I began informally pet sitting for family and friends 10 years ago. In this time, I have watched large groups of pets (5 dogs and 2 cats in one household is my record), as well as single pet households. Though I have no formal vet training I have administered oral and topical medication to both cats and dogs, and worked with pets with skin abrasions. I have watched for shelter dogs with complicated social needs, a very particular rescue greyhound, and also have experience with terrier mixes, poodles, pitbulls, and mixed breeds. I have experience with puppues, adults, and senior dogs. I am happy to take your furbaby(ies) for a walk, stop in to play, or do in-home pet care on weekends! I currently work from 9:00 am to 5:00pm during the week, Monday through Friday. I am available to work with pets on weeknights and weekends. Though I cannot offer boarding services, I am happy to stop in for a play date, walk, or do in-home sitting services. When I petsit typically make sure that the pets are fed, that the litter is cleaned, and I spend time playing with the pet. For a walk I make sure the pet is secured in their harness and take them on a route that their guardian has approved ahead of time. In either case, I try to send lots of pictures!
“AC responds quickly to texts, and will visit and stay with dog. AC patted our dog with such joy, a long time, when she met him. AC kept our dog well fed with lots of water and a cool temp in our home. AC has lots of energy and peppiness, and showed great care with our dog. Our dog was calm when we got home.”

“Ashley was AMAZING with our 2 frenchies. Our trip was last minute so we didn’t have time for a meet and greet. I was nervous our older frenchie might be a bit of a handful at first. Upon her arrival I received pictures of them all snuggled up with her on the couch. She went above and beyond in all ways. Updates and pictures were provided during her in-home stay and she even cleaned up my kitchen (we left in a hurry). So not necessary, but what a treat when we returned. Such a pleasure to have Ashley caring for our fur babies. I’m definitely going to be a repeat customer of hers. A-1”

“I am so grateful to have found Debra after a challenging experience with a previous dog sitter. From the moment she was assigned to care for my dog, it was clear that he was in excellent hands. Looking forward to using Debra in the future.”

About: I am a wildlife biologist for the Georgia DNR working for the Urban Wildlife Program. I have years of experience dog-sitting, primarily for large- and medium-sized dogs in the Chicago area. My work schedule is very flexible, allowing me to take my time to care for your critters! A large part of my job is responding to wildlife emergencies using years of experience and best-judgment decision making, which makes for a great pet-sitter. I am a wildlife biologist that works from home in Decatur. My workload is quite low so it is easy to fit pet care into my schedule throughout the week. My flexible schedule affords me ample time to provide proper attention to animals. I have a calm demeanor with strong attention to detail when it comes to care instruction. My experience as a wildlife biologist has trained me how to monitor animals for emergencies and how to be calm in the face of the unknown or unexpected. I am used to following strict research protocol, so following along for the care of your animal will be a breeze.
About: I've taken care of house animals for over a decade, working with all types from small dogs and puppies to my very large white lab Drake and a few different cats! I'm comfortable walking, feeding, crating, managing potty breaks, and diffusing stressful situations (I have a dog who was abused as a puppy and struggles with certain new people so I'm no stranger to barking/feelings of threat). As a sitter, I believe a gentle touch and strong boundaries truly help our pets thrive and grow safely. I can't wait to meet your furry friends! I'm currently babysitting part-time, so I have a very flexible schedule during both weekdays and weekends to check in on and take care of your pets! While caring for pets in others' homes, the first thing I seek to establish is trust. I get it, I'm a new person invading your pet's space and it's scary! That's why I initially take some time to build rapport through playing and petting, and I start with slow, gentle movements. Once they feel more comfortable around me, my focus shifts to making sure they have all of my attention, everything they need (food, water, clean bed, etc.), and keeping the home a safe space for them while you are away!
The median cost per night for house sitting in Candler-McAfee is $50
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Candler-McAfee
Lindsey was amazing with Nora and Buzz. She was incredibly accommodating, flexible with timing, and kept me updated throughout the stay with messages and lots of pictures. She even handled an unexpected water outage without missing a beat and made sure the dogs had everything they needed. It was obvious they were comfortable with her and had a great time. She went above and beyond, and I’d absolutely book with her again.

Jess was amazing with Ellie while I was on vacation. She was attentive, reliable, and went above and beyond to make sure Ellie was happy and well cared for. She took her on walks, kept me updated, and even gave her a bath. I felt completely comfortable knowing Ellie was in such good hands. Highly recommend Jess!

Ace was absolutely amazing with our cats! We were pretty anxious about leaving them—especially since we have an older cat and a newer, younger one we weren’t sure would do well together—but she put our minds completely at ease. She took such great care of them and kept us updated with pictures while we were away, which meant so much to us. It was such a relief to come home and see that both cats were happy and doing well (and even getting along!). You can really tell she cares, and we’re so grateful for the love and attention she gave them. We would 100% trust her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring cat sitter!

Bliss stayed at my place and took care of my 2 cats for 5 days. And I couldn't be more thrilled that they did! They sent both photos and video with updates of my cats, who looked so relaxed and happy, which is rare with someone they just met. Bliss is definitely a cat whisperer! They also left my apartment clean and cared for, too. I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you, Bliss! Rico and Sly send snuggles ;)

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Candler-McAfee walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Candler-McAfee maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Candler-McAfee choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
