“Nicole has been amazing! It was my first time using a dog walker for my boy and she did wonderfully. Lots of messages to coordinate and enjoyed our interactions. By the last visit my dog was waiting at the door for her vehicle to roll up ❤️”

About: I grew up taking care of my own dog, teaching her many tricks as a puppy and expanding my knowledge of animal caregiving. I have since had many experiences pet sitting for family friends, and sharing my passion of taking care of individual needs of dogs, giving them a multitude of love and attention. I am a nursing student at VIU and it is currently my summer break so I am practically fully available to provide pet care at this time. I rely on a compassion-based approach, focusing on meeting individual pet’s needs and making sure to adjust my approach depending on how active or attention-needing the animal is.
“Thank you so much, Sara! It was such a pleasure meeting you and trusting you with our big dog while we were away. Milo always looked very happy (via the Ring cam) to see you when you stopped by for his two-walks-a-day while we were away. It was our first time leaving him since he was a puppy. You were dependable, kind and firm. We would absolutely book your services again and highly recommend you. Thank you!”

“Hilda is so patient and kind with my dog Cannoli who is a bit nervous with new people and situations. I can tell that Cannoli already senses some comfort and trust with Hilda after one meeting and one walk. Looking forward to another walk with Hilda!”

“Jaydyn was amazing! She was so accommodating when I asked to change our times on short notice. She was so good with Ru-Bea and Ru-Bea loved her walks. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Jaydyn!”

About: My partner and I travel often so we aren't ready for a dog of our own. But we love to dog sit for our friends. We've taken care of small and big dogs from Pomeranians to St. Bernese. My family dog growing up was a border collie. He joined us as a puppy when I was 11 years old, so caring for dogs, especially high energy breeds, is second nature. I work from home so I can keep a close eye on your dogs needs. It also means I have a flexible schedule for pick up and drop offs. At least two walks a day and I let them outside whenever they want so they can enjoy the fenced back yard. In the spring and summer I like to bring my laptop outside and join them.
“Lindsey was absutely amazing! This was my first time using Rover and I was a little nervous finding someone to come and care for my dogs while i was at work. Lindsey did such an amazing job communicating with me and coming by for a quick meet & greet before coming to take the dogs on the walks for the first time. She kept me updated with photos from the walks and some great notes of how it went! If you’re looking for someone who genuinely loves animals and will care for them like her own Lindsey is your girl! Tucker & Boba say thank you! 🐾”

About: I share a husky mix with my partner for 5 years, grew up with several dogs, and have dog sat for many of my friends animals. I take the care of your animal very seriously while trying to have the most fun with them. I work from 9-430 from Monday through Thursday and have an hour lunch break. Beyond get out for a run on local trails, I am pretty wide open in my schedule. I have a large fenced yard, I like getting out for walks myself and have no problem following the specific directions given for care of your dog
“Tyler was very patient with my beloved puppy for her first walk with him. She was very shy but he took the time to let her come to him. Looking forward to working with you. Thanks Tyler”

About: I’ve had animals my entire life — from cats and dogs to a variety of farm animals — and caring for them has always been second nature to me. I truly believe dogs are part of the family and deserve to be treated with the same love, respect, and attention as any family member. I’m very active and make sure the dogs in my care get plenty of exercise and enrichment. We go on walks at least twice a day, with longer off-leash adventures on the weekends (when appropriate and safe). Because I work from home, I’m able to provide frequent potty breaks, outdoor time, and lots of attention throughout the day. I’m also happy to drop in for potty breaks if you’re within a reasonable driving distance. Growing up on a farm gave me hands-on experience with all kinds of animals, including keeping chickens on and off over the years. I’m comfortable, confident, and attentive with animals of all sizes and temperaments. I share my home with two very friendly, well-socialized dogs. One is a large senior Lab who spends most of his day happily snoozing, and the other is a young Dachshund who would love a playmate but is just as content relaxing if that’s more your dog’s style. Both dogs are neutered, healthy and kept up to date on vaccinations. Because of this, I do require that visiting dogs are comfortable around other dogs. I have fostered puppies over the years and am comfortable with puppy care as well as administering medication for any health issues. Your pup will be welcomed into our home like one of our own — with love, structure, exercise, and plenty of cozy downtime. 🐾 My days are structured but flexible since I work from home. I’m able to let dogs out in our secure fenced yard for potty breaks as needed throughout the day and always make time for at least one dedicated walk during the workday. After work, we head out for a longer walk to burn off energy and enjoy some fresh air. Between walks, there’s plenty of supervision, companionship, and relaxation time so your pup feels comfortable, cared for, and part of the family all day long. 🐾 Your dog will be welcomed into a calm, loving home with lots of attention and supervision throughout the day. I do have two friendly, well-socialized dogs at home — a laid-back senior Lab and a young Dachshund — so visiting pups must be comfortable around other dogs. We tailor walks to each dog’s comfort level and training, offering on-leash or off-leash outings when appropriate and safe. At night, my dogs typically sleep with me, and there’s plenty of room for extra snuggles if your pup enjoys that too. If you prefer your dog to be crated or follow a specific nighttime routine, I’m happy to stick to your instructions to keep their routine consistent. 🐾
About: I have been a pet parent since I was a wee lass, owned mostly dogs and cats but I've also had rabbits, birds, fish and lizards. I have experience with all ages of animals and I used to foster and help train groups of puppies for a rescue agency. I work from home with a flexible schedule so I can be available daytime and evenings as needed. I am also available for overnight stays. I offer drop in care service or a full overnight house sit as needed. I will treat your pet like my own with lots of love!
About: I’ve taken care of plenty of companions over the last 10 years from fish to horses your furry friends will be in great hands :) I currently work part time so I will have tons of time to play with your animals! Depending on days I will be available to schedule accordingly. While being in your space I find it makes your pet comfortable and relaxed, being easy to tend to their needs and goes for a smoothness transition
“Sarah was great with our dog Marlo. He is typically a bit shy to warm up to new people at first but he took to her right away. She was confident and caring with him on our first walk together. We look forward to booking Sarah again when we need her! :)”
About: I have had the pleasure of being apart of 3 different puppies lives, helping out with my housemates huskies, bernadoodles, and labs and have taken an active role while they grew up. Whenever their owners were away, I was always there to step in and watch over them. As a firefighter for the city of Nanaimo, my schedule is quite flexible. My days off rotate weekly and I can be available to walk or look after your pups almost any given day of the week. I'm naturally patient and observant. Every dog is an individual, and I take the time to learn their unique personality, energy levels, and any quirks they might have. Whether your dog is a high-energy adventurer who needs to burn off steam or a more reserved companion who prefers a leisurely stroll, I adapt my approach to suit them. This also means I'm constantly aware of their body language and surroundings, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. I understand the importance of sticking to a routine, and you'll always be informed about our walks, from pick-up to drop-off, and how your dog enjoyed their time. I treat every dog as if they were my own, prioritizing their well-being above all else. I incorporate playtime, mental stimulation, and plenty of positive reinforcement into our outings. From navigating busy streets safely to exploring local trails, I ensure your dog gets the exercise and engagement they need to be happy and healthy.
“We had a wonderful experience with Vivian! She is friendly, communicative, and clearly cares about the dogs she works with. We loved the updates and photos and it was awesome to see she took our high energy pup on a trail and made it a really fun walk for him. Hank came back happy and well cared for. Would definitely recommend and book again!”

About: Animals have been my passion and career for over 10 years. My background includes working in dog daycares, veterinary medicine, and animal control, giving me experience with pets of all ages, sizes, and temperaments. As a stay-at-home mom, I'm home throughout the day and can provide plenty of attention, supervision, and care. I've welcomed many dogs into my home over the years and treat every pet like family. I currently have one dog and three cats, so my only requirement is that visiting dogs are social and comfortable around other animals. I look forward to giving your pet a safe, loving home away from home! As a stay-at-home mom to one child, I have a flexible schedule and spend most of my time at home. This allows me to provide plenty of supervision, attention, potty breaks, and companionship throughout the day, ensuring your pet feels safe, comfortable, and cared for while you're away. Your pet will be treated like part of the family while in my care. As a stay-at-home mom, I am home most of the day and can provide regular potty breaks, exercise, playtime, feeding, medication administration if needed, and lots of attention. I have one dog and three cats, so I only accept dogs that are social and comfortable around other animals. My goal is to make your pet feel relaxed, loved, and at home while you're away.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a walker. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your walker or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your walker questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and walkers on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Nanaimo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find walkers who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
