“We were so lucky to have found Hilda! During our initial meeting, I could tell that she is the perfect balance of kindness and leadership, which our golden retriever definitively needs. As an experienced dog walker, she easily handled his behavioural quirks. She gave us daily updates and pictures and was prompt with all communication. Our house and dog were in good hands.”

“Great dog sitter. Got lots of updates with pictures! She let me know exactly how he was doing and was very good at communicating. My dog is very anxious and has separation anxiety from me. She was so good with him & was flexible in the times that she would pop in and out throughout the day to make the experience best for Rex. Overall great pet sitter, would highly recommend. Also experienced in giving medication which is a huge relief!”

“Nicole provided such amazing care for my boys and was super lovely and thoughtful to work with! I look forward to having her take care of my dogs again soon! (But not as much as they do!)”

“Nicole took such great care of our pups while we had a trip to the mainland. She sent us the cutest updates, took them out for some great active time and snuggled them for us. It gave us such peace of mind knowing they were cared for and we could just enjoy ourselves. She left our home in spotless condition and was so sweet and communicative. 10/10 recommend!!”
“Jimena was absolutely amazing with Taika! I kept getting regular updates and videos/photos that really put my mind at ease while I was away. So happy with her service and will definitely be booking her again when needed!”

“At first we were nervous to let someone we don't know stay at our home, but Kylee arranged to meet us a few days earlier to introduce herself, which put all of the uncertainty aside. She is friendly, courteous, and I had no doubt she would take good care of Josie, Jenny and Thandi...and of course our home. To look after 3 dogs, one still a pup, is a tall order, but Kylee was a real trooper and did an amazing job! She communicated well and kept up us up to speed with how they were doing during our trip. Thank you for leaving the house clean and tidy. We will certainly make use of your services again :-)”

“Jenn was incredible! She was so communicative, kind, and attentive to our sweet, anxious dog. She followed our instructions for him to T, and when we came home, he was just so happy. Plus, our house was cleaner when we came home then when we left! What a treat! Our dog has been nervous in the past with other sitters, but we could tell he was happy and comfortable with Jenn right away. She and Adam really have a way with dogs, and we're so grateful that we found them. Will definitely be booking them again soon!”

“Kathy took excellent care of our elderly dog Sam. She communicated to us with pictures and updates and was very reliable and showed a genuine interest in learning as much about Sam as possible. She met with us twice prior to the homestay date and the house was in immaculate condition. I would highly recommend Kathy. Ashia little”

About: I’ve been around animals my entire life. Growing up, our house was always full of pets- from cats and dogs to rabbits and fish. I've truly seen and handled it all. Whether your fur baby is literally just a baby or older and more low key, I'm there for whatever they need. When it comes to house sitting, I treat your home with respect and keep things clean. My main goal is to make sure your pets barely notice you're gone. I’ll follow their daily schedule so they stay feeling safe, comfortable, and happy while you're away. My schedule is open atm! Instead of just popping in for a fast visit, I'll be around to keep them company, stick to their routine, and make sure they're content. I integrate into their lives by adapt to whatever schedule your pet is already used to. It's super important to me that your pet feels safe with me in your absense. You’ll never have to wonder how they're doing while you're away and can expect many photo updates!
About: I have had the pleasure of being apart of 3 different puppies lives, helping out with my housemates huskies, bernadoodles, and labs and have taken an active role while they grew up. Whenever their owners were away, I was always there to step in and watch over them. As a firefighter for the city of Nanaimo, my schedule is quite flexible. My days off rotate weekly and I can be available to walk or look after your pups almost any given day of the week. I'm naturally patient and observant. Every dog is an individual, and I take the time to learn their unique personality, energy levels, and any quirks they might have. Whether your dog is a high-energy adventurer who needs to burn off steam or a more reserved companion who prefers a leisurely stroll, I adapt my approach to suit them. This also means I'm constantly aware of their body language and surroundings, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. I understand the importance of sticking to a routine, and you'll always be informed about our walks, from pick-up to drop-off, and how your dog enjoyed their time. I treat every dog as if they were my own, prioritizing their well-being above all else. I incorporate playtime, mental stimulation, and plenty of positive reinforcement into our outings. From navigating busy streets safely to exploring local trails, I ensure your dog gets the exercise and engagement they need to be happy and healthy.
“I needed someone to hang out with my pup just during the day while visiting from Vancouver for a course. Tyler very kindly hung out with her at my airbnb, sent plenty of updates and made sure she was calm and relaxed and followed my care instructions.”

“Our pets were well cared for and Shayla was communicative and reliable. We loved getting the photo updates every other day and we were happy to know our pets were in good hands. Thanks so much!”

About: I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember and have cared for both dogs and cats throughout my life. More recently, while living on a farm, I looked after an Australian Shepherd and helped care for two kittens we rescued and raised until they grew into happy, independent cats. Although I’m not a professional trainer, I’m patient, attentive, and committed to following each pet’s normal routine to help them feel comfortable while you’re away. Whether that’s sticking to feeding schedules, going for walks, playing, or simply providing companionship, I understand that every pet has their own personality and needs. My background in hospitality has taught me to be highly organized, dependable, and communicative. I know how important it is to trust the person caring for your family member, so I’ll always treat your pets with kindness and respect while keeping you updated with messages and photos for extra peace of mind. I’m comfortable caring for pets of different ages and personalities, and I’m happy to follow any instructions you provide so your pet receives the same level of care they’re used to at home. I currently have a very flexible schedule and can accommodate weekdays, weekends, holidays, and many last-minute bookings. I’m happy to work with you to find times that fit your pet’s routine and your schedule. I believe pets are happiest when their routine stays as consistent as possible. I’ll carefully follow your instructions regarding feeding, walks, medications (if needed), and any house rules your pet is used to. I pay close attention to each pet’s body language and personality, making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and respected while you’re away. I’ll also keep you updated with regular messages and photos so you can have peace of mind.
“Julene was amazing with our dog Ziggy! She was professional, attentive and kind, and we came back to a calm and happy dog. She was very accommodating of all of Ziggy’s needs and left our house exactly as we left it. I highly recommend Julene and we hope she can take care of Ziggy again in the near future!”

About: Hi! I’m your pet’s new best friend— ready for walks, belly rubs, snacks, and snuggles. I’ll keep tails wagging and whiskers purring while you’re away! I work part-time, leaving plenty of time during weekdays and weekends for pet sitting, walks, and cuddles. Your furry family will always be my priority. Safe, loving, and dependable care you can trust. I create a comfortable environment with walks, play, and cuddles, treating every pet like part of my family.
About: I have been a pet parent since I was a wee lass, owned mostly dogs and cats but I've also had rabbits, birds, fish and lizards. I have experience with all ages of animals and I used to foster and help train groups of puppies for a rescue agency. I work from home with a flexible schedule so I can be available daytime and evenings as needed. I am also available for overnight stays. I offer drop in care service or a full overnight house sit as needed. I will treat your pet like my own with lots of love!
“Pat was absolutely wonderful. She stayed at our home to care for our mini dachshund and our indoor/outdoor cat, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. She gave both pets lots of love and attention, kept us updated while we were away, and made us feel totally at ease. We came home to happy animals and a spotless house. It was clear she treated our home and pets with great care and respect. We’re so grateful to have found her and wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again. Highly recommend.”

“We had a great experience with Melissa. She was fast to respond, easy to communicate with, and came over to our house beforehand for a meet and greet, which I really appreciated. From the beginning, I felt that she was reliable and trustworthy. I felt completely comfortable leaving my home and the dogs in her care, knowing she would show up exactly as agreed. Melissa took wonderful care of Pablo and Braza. She took them on adventures to the beach, followed all of my wishes and instructions carefully, and truly went above and beyond. What stood out most was how calm, capable, and unfazed she was with my dogs’ special needs and sometimes slightly out-of-line behavior – she didn’t flinch or seem overwhelmed at all. Overall, I felt I could fully trust Melissa and our agreement from start to finish. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dependable, caring, and communicative dog sitter.”

Karuna was such an amazing pet sitter for our two cats! We definitely spoil our cats and we really wanted someone who understood that cats are social creatures just like dogs who need socializing and attention. One of our cats can be quite shy and nervous and he really bonded with Karuna (cats can tell a cat person I believe!) Our place was left spotless which was so very appreciated after a few days away and arriving back later in the evening. We will definitely book again thank you so much!!

This was my first time booking with Shay and I will absolutely use her again. I came home to a very calm and happy dog - proof that he was well cared for and loved during my absence. Shay reached out when she had questions and was also very flexible with changes to Steve's schedule. I am sure Steve misses her dearly! Hope to use her again in the future. I highly recommend!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Jaunty is amazing. My dogs love her so much, they were looking for her after she left. She sends videos, pictures and messages keeping me updated with everything. She gives my dogs the attention and love they need which with two shepherds that’s a lot. Not only all of that but I came back to my house cleaner than it was when I left it. Highly recommend, 11/10 experience!!

Maya was wonderful! She was incredibly kind and caring, and it was clear our dog adored her. We really appreciated the regular updates she sent—they gave us great peace of mind while we were away. We’d happily recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and loving sitter!
Ann was absolutely fantastic with our dog, Pepper. Right from the start we noticed her calm and inviting energy and felt that our beloved girl was in good hands. She was extremely communicative, provided lots of updates and pictures, and even washed our bedsheets at the end of her stay. We could tell just how much she enjoyed being with Pepper and never got the sense that she treated it like a chore. If we can, we would love to have her watch our dog again!

Sarah was awesome, very friendly and easy to communicate with. Obviously she cares deeeply for animals and I could tell right away that both my dog and cat felt very comfortable and safe with her. She house sat for us for three nights and when I came home my house was tidy, the animals were very relaxed and happy. Sarah sent photos as check ins so I could see how they were doing over the weekend. Highly recommend!

This is the first time we have used an in home petsitter, and Scott was great! We have 3 high demand animals - a border collie, a senior cat with health concerns and medications, and a kitten who runs the house. Scott came out twice in advance to our home to meet the animals and get a lay of the land and all their needs. He was communicative before and during our trip, updating us with photos of our happy clan. We came home to a clean house and 3 very happy animals. I would very much recommend Scott for any of your animal care needs!!

Jodelle was amazing with our almost 11 week old pup! We had a pre booked night away from before we got our dog that we couldn’t cancel and Jodelle came through last minute and was unbelievable with Frankie. Puppies are not easy but she did such a great job and was so attentive.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Nanaimo on Rover is $61.05 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 667 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Nanaimo. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Nanaimo maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Nanaimo walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Nanaimo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 90% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
