“Highly recommend Hilda! She is knowledgeable, experienced, and very caring. Hilda was very flexible, professional, and communicative, and really took time to understand our picky pup before and during the stay! We had a unique situation and moved houses between booking and the stay, and Hilda was extremely understanding. Our house was left clean, and our pup was very happy! Would love to book again!”

“Susanne cared for Sammy for seven days on short notice, and was fantastic. Susanne was super responsive, right on time for the meet and greet, and so kind and attentive with Sammy’s extra medical needs. Sammy clearly adored her, and coming home to a spotless, tidy place was such a gift after a long day of traveling. I’d highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful, reliable sitter. Thank you so much, Susanne, for taking such good care of Sammy.”

“Nicole took such great care of our pups while we had a trip to the mainland. She sent us the cutest updates, took them out for some great active time and snuggled them for us. It gave us such peace of mind knowing they were cared for and we could just enjoy ourselves. She left our home in spotless condition and was so sweet and communicative. 10/10 recommend!!”
“Angela is an excellent sitter. She is patient, understanding and able to adapt to pets’ unique needs. She looked after my dog Freya during a time Freya had some health issues, and she managed Freya’s various medications and anxiety about being in a cone well. Angela sent updates, asked questions when needed, and made decisions with Freya’s best interests in mind. And she left my house spotless. I absolutely recommend her.”

About: What sets me apart is the level of care, attention, and reliability I bring to every pet as if they were my own. I focus on creating a calm, safe, and loving environment where pets feel comfortable and secure while their owners are away. I have experience working with pets of all ages and personalities, from energetic puppies/kittens who need structure, consistency, and basic training reinforcement, to senior pets who require patience, gentle handling, and an understanding of slower-paced routines. Pet parents can also expect clear and consistent communication from me, including regular updates and photos so they always know how their pet is doing. I understand how important peace of mind is when you’re away, and I aim to provide exactly that. Above all, I treat every animal like family—because to me, they are. I am currently working part-time so have full availability Friday-Sunday and partially available Monday-Thursday in mornings and evenings. I have my own vehicle to travel to your home to visit your pet or take them for walks. I pay close attention to each pet’s individual needs, including feeding routines, exercise levels, behavioural quirks, and comfort preferences. I’m confident handling leash walking, including dogs still learning proper walking manners. I will work to provide a calm presence in your home and ensure all routines are followed.
“Nicole provided such amazing care for my boys and was super lovely and thoughtful to work with! I look forward to having her take care of my dogs again soon! (But not as much as they do!)”

About: I've taken care of cats and dogs for family and friends since my teen years. I regularly care for my sisters Siberian Huskies, so I'm familiar with high energy pets! I also have an elderly cat of my own that I love dearly who I've had her entire life. I am currently only working a few side-hustles so my schedule is very flexible to meet your pet care needs. Let me know your pets regular schedule and my aim will be to keep things as consistent as I can for their comfort. My goal is to keep your pets on their regular schedule while you are away so that they are as comfortable as possible. I am happy to provide regular updates and photos to keep you updated on how they are doing during my stay!
“Karuna was absolutely amazing, she took care of Rhea all day while I was in Vancouver. Rhea absolutely loved her, even with her being a cautious K9 Karuna was able to create a very special bond with Rhea. Karuna is respectful and responsive, sending us updates throughout the day that had pictures and videos! She took Rhea for multiple walks as it was pretty hot outside that day. She understands dog needs and is very attentive to their limits. I would highly recommend her if you are looking for a dog sitter!”

“Jimena took the best care of our energetic lab! Her communication was amazing throughout our time away and she was so good about sending photos and updates of each day. We would highly recommend Jimena to anyone in need of a pup sitter!”

“Julene was amazing with our dog Ziggy! She was professional, attentive and kind, and we came back to a calm and happy dog. She was very accommodating of all of Ziggy’s needs and left our house exactly as we left it. I highly recommend Julene and we hope she can take care of Ziggy again in the near future!”

“Kelly took great care of our girl. She communicated when she arrives and also when she was leaving. Roxy seemed happy when we returned. We would definitely recommend Kelly to anyone looking for fur baby care”

About: I have had the pleasure of being apart of 3 different puppies lives, helping out with my housemates huskies, bernadoodles, and labs and have taken an active role while they grew up. Whenever their owners were away, I was always there to step in and watch over them. As a firefighter for the city of Nanaimo, my schedule is quite flexible. My days off rotate weekly and I can be available to walk or look after your pups almost any given day of the week. I'm naturally patient and observant. Every dog is an individual, and I take the time to learn their unique personality, energy levels, and any quirks they might have. Whether your dog is a high-energy adventurer who needs to burn off steam or a more reserved companion who prefers a leisurely stroll, I adapt my approach to suit them. This also means I'm constantly aware of their body language and surroundings, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. I understand the importance of sticking to a routine, and you'll always be informed about our walks, from pick-up to drop-off, and how your dog enjoyed their time. I treat every dog as if they were my own, prioritizing their well-being above all else. I incorporate playtime, mental stimulation, and plenty of positive reinforcement into our outings. From navigating busy streets safely to exploring local trails, I ensure your dog gets the exercise and engagement they need to be happy and healthy.
“Sara was fantastic! For a last minute request she watched my giant puppy for almost a week. My puppy warmed up to her almost immediately and she was amazing about respecting my rules and preferences for him. She sent lots of photos and videos and made me feel very comfortable with having her in my home and with my impressionable young pup. He was nice and tired when I came home and I could tell she had followed my instructions to a T. I can’t recommend Sara enough!!”

“Simone is awesome! Checked in twice daily and was super dependable and friendly. I felt very comfortable with leaving my cat and dog with her, and for her to housesit. I will definitely be asking for her help again next time we go away. Thanks so much Simone 🩷”

“I needed someone to hang out with my pup just during the day while visiting from Vancouver for a course. Tyler very kindly hung out with her at my airbnb, sent plenty of updates and made sure she was calm and relaxed and followed my care instructions.”

About: I have taken care of many different dogs, including border collies, havanese and husky mixes! Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Nanaimo
Sarah was excellent caring for our senior dog. She administered medication, helped him up and down the steps, and generally went above and beyond in her level of care. She was easy to communicate with and sent us lots of photos. Leading up to the booking she was easy to schedule a meet and greet with, she accommodated a schedule change on our part, and checked in the day before. A very stress free experience! We would happily trust Sarah to dog sit again.

Jaydyn, thank you so much for taking such excellent care of Georgie! We felt so comfortable with Georgie in your care and the regular updates and photos were very much appreciated as we rarely leave our girl with anyone but a family member. Jaydyn, you are an excellent pet sitter and extremely trustworthy house sitter. Thank you!

Nicole was a great sitter for our dog Delta. We appreciated that she came to our house a few days before we were out of town so that Delta could meet her - she clearly has great energy because Delta loved her right away. Our house was spotless when we got back from our weekend away. We will definitely be utilizing her services again in the future!
This was our first house sitting booking with Hilda and she was fantastic. Luke clearly felt comfortable and happy with her, he was actually upset when she left, which says a lot. She communicated with us exactly as often as we asked, and it made such a difference, knowing he was in good hands. We came back from our weekend completely ease. Highly recommend!

Karuna was awesome. She understood our very nervous pup’s needs, it was the first time leaving him. She understood his needs and was so kind with him, now they are best pals. We really appreciated the pictures and updates, and made us feel comfortable knowing he was well cared for.

This was my first time booking with Shay and I will absolutely use her again. I came home to a very calm and happy dog - proof that he was well cared for and loved during my absence. Shay reached out when she had questions and was also very flexible with changes to Steve's schedule. I am sure Steve misses her dearly! Hope to use her again in the future. I highly recommend!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Jaunty is amazing. My dogs love her so much, they were looking for her after she left. She sends videos, pictures and messages keeping me updated with everything. She gives my dogs the attention and love they need which with two shepherds that’s a lot. Not only all of that but I came back to my house cleaner than it was when I left it. Highly recommend, 11/10 experience!!

Maya was wonderful! She was incredibly kind and caring, and it was clear our dog adored her. We really appreciated the regular updates she sent—they gave us great peace of mind while we were away. We’d happily recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and loving sitter!

She was extremely communicative, provided lots of updates and pictures, and even washed our bedsheets at the end of her stay. Sarah was awesome, very friendly and easy to communicate with. Obviously she cares deeeply for animals and I could tell right away that both my dog and cat felt very comfortable and safe with her. She house sat for us for three nights and when I came home my house was tidy, the animals were very relaxed and happy. Sarah sent photos as check ins so I could see how they were doing over the weekend. Highly recommend!

This is the first time we have used an in home petsitter, and Scott was great! We have 3 high demand animals - a border collie, a senior cat with health concerns and medications, and a kitten who runs the house. Scott came out twice in advance to our home to meet the animals and get a lay of the land and all their needs. He was communicative before and during our trip, updating us with photos of our happy clan. We came home to a clean house and 3 very happy animals. I would very much recommend Scott for any of your animal care needs!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Nanaimo on Rover is $64.38 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 621 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Nanaimo. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Nanaimo maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Nanaimo walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Nanaimo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 90% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
