“We had Danielle take care of our dogs for two weeks while we were on vacation in Singapore. She was more than we could have hoped for. She sent regular updates, with videos and photos which made it much easier for us to be so far away from them. Her current service dog in training, and our youngest became the best of buds. She meticulously followed, our dog special dietary needs. She went above and beyond when we ran out of their usual breakfast food by obtaining ingredients and making some more, following our recipe. We’re very grateful to have found Danielle and look forward to using her again in the future.”

“Jenn and Adam came to dog sit at our home for our 9 month old Pyrenees/Golden puppy, Daisy. This was our first test leaving her with someone other than family. They were very responsible and diligent in both caring for our dog and our home. They took Daisy on hikes, provided regular updates with pictures and made us feel so comfortable with leaving her for the weekend while we were out of town. Jenn and Adam looked after Daisy so well, we cannot thank them enough. We would highly recommend them!! Alison and Jeff”

“Thank you Kathryn for your understanding today and helping fulfill the needs for Daisy. She clearly trusted you right away and your consistent communication allowed me to enjoy my day away :)”

“Leah was wonderful...kind to my shy rescue and resilient wuth the 2 different personalities. She sent pictures. The only reason I didnt give 5 out of 5 was rhat my shy rescue proved a little too stubborn about not going for walks and I wished Leah had asked more questions about that...but as this was our first housesit and spending time with these 2 big dogs. LEAH was awesome.”

“Anna Maria was the first home pet sitter we ever used, was always in a kennel or with family but too old now. Our Rottweiler can be pretty set in his ways and when mama goes away it’s not good but he went right to Anna Maria, cuddled and layed at her feet. We will definitely use Anna Maria again”

“We were super happy with our experience with Brenden and Brooke. Right off the bat, we could tell how much love they have for dogs. It immediately gave us peace of mind, and we truly felt safe leaving our girl in their care. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was a great fit beforehand. We met with them a couple of times prior to booking, practiced walks together, and showed them around the house. That preparation made everything feel easy and seamless when it came time for us to leave. They followed our pet care guidelines to a T and kept us updated daily with photos, which meant so much to us. It’s imperative to my husband and me that we find people we completely trust with our Rottweiler, and they were absolutely wonderful with her. They took the time to really understand her behavior and made her feel comfortable. On top of that, they left our home in great condition. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would book with them again anytime. Highly recommend!”

About: Caring for animals has been a meaningful part of my life for many years, and I approach pet sitting with the same attentiveness and responsibility I would want for my own pets. I was a devoted dog owner for 14 years to my beloved beagle, caring for her through every stage of life — from daily exercise and enrichment to senior care and comfort. That experience shaped my understanding of how important patience, consistency, and emotional awareness are when looking after animals. I’m experienced with small dogs and cats and comfortable managing feeding routines, walks, playtime, administering basic care, and providing companionship so pets feel secure while their owners are away. I pay close attention to each pet’s personality and needs, whether they’re energetic and playful or more relaxed and independent. My goal is always to create a calm, safe environment where pets can stick to their routines and feel at ease. I’m reliable, detail-oriented, and communicative, and I treat every home with respect and care. I work from home, which allows me to be present and attentive throughout the day. My schedule is generally quiet and structured, with most of my work done on my laptop, so pets aren’t left alone for long periods. I’m typically home the majority of the day, with only occasional short outings for errands, groceries, or appointments. Because I’m home-based, I’m able to maintain consistent feeding times, regular walks, play sessions, and check-ins, while also keeping an eye on pets who may need a bit more attention or companionship. My work is flexible, so I can easily adapt my routine to fit a pet’s needs, whether that means extra outdoor time, medication schedules, or simply providing a calm presence for animals who prefer company. This setup works especially well for pets who are used to having someone around, experience separation anxiety, or just enjoy a steady, relaxed environment. Although I don’t offer boarding, I maintain a calm, organized, and safety-conscious home environment that reflects the level of care I bring to every pet sitting job. I keep my space clean, clutter-free, and pet-aware, meaning there are no accessible hazards like exposed wires, toxic plants, or unsafe foods within reach. I’m very mindful of safety routines such as securing doors and gates, monitoring pets closely, and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere without excessive noise or disruptions. My approach is preventative — I pay attention to details and potential risks so pets can feel relaxed and secure at all times. Because I work from home, I’m present and attentive throughout the day, which allows me to respond quickly if a pet needs anything. Whether I’m caring for pets in their own home or simply checking in, I bring the same level of responsibility, awareness, and respect for their comfort and safety.
“I asked the dogs: Salsa - "Many stars! Many walks! Much fun! Cookies? Things! WHEEEEE!" Mister Bird - "All good. Got some bounces in there, hung out a lot, cruised the neighbourhood. Worked out great!" Salsa - "WHEEEEE! Cookies?" We will happily hire Shannon again.”

About: I have had dogs my whole life and taken care of many dogs for friends and family while they are away. I raised my first dog (In my adult life) from a puppy, right through to his end of life. I also have cared for our current dog who we adopted, so I have had exposure with dogs that are experiencing re homing and adoption senarios. I love walking dogs and believe strongly that an active dog is a happy dog! I am currently looking to change careers to dog walking and sitting and am very flexible with schedule. I am available for walks from 7am-3:30pm weekdays and can be open to weekend walks as well. For in home sitting I am available weekdays and weekends after 6pm for over night stays. I am very flexible for check ins and supplementary visits/ walks during overnight stays. All walks and visits can be curated to most schedule needs with enough notice and communication. I take all the measures to care for your pets in the same loving secure way that I can for my own pets. I require all dogs to be leash walked until a safe trust has been created between all parties involved. Obviously all safety concerns of the client as to the care of their pet will be followed to the best of my ability and instruction.

About: I’m lucky to have two amazing dogs in my life, Luna ( a lady of a certain age! ) she belongs to my son and when she comes to me for her “holidays” we enjoy long, leisurely walks and/or a lovely swim in the ocean! And lots of cosy, curled up on the couch time. Then there’s Molly- who is a sweet golden retriever puppy belonging to my daughter. I spent a wonderful summer with Molly in tow, at just 10 weeks old, everything was new to her and delighted her. Although our walks were short, we went often and Molly made many friends in the neighbourhood! My daughter lives in the Okanagan Valley therefore, sadly I don’t get to spend nearly enough time with “our” Molly. Having said that, I do have lots of time to spend with your precious canine! I love walking and believe I would be a great companion for your dog when you can’t be there. I will strive to walk in different areas to provide visual interest to your dog and take the utmost care of him/ her at all times. I prefer on leash walks but am more than happy to play off leash games in your back yard. If your dog requires medication, I’m quite confident with that - recently Luna needed a course of injections and I was able to do that with no problems and obviously, I can feed your dog if required. At the moment I provide 2 kitties with regular overnight care and drop in visits. One of whom is diabetic & requires daily medication. I have lots of flexibility at the moment. I can offer week day and weekend service and am happy to tailor the length/ type of walk to suit your dog. I prefer to offer one on one care to deepen my bond with your dog. I am excellent housekeeper & live “lightly” in my clients homes.
“Chris looked after our small farm for 10 days. He was awesome with our dogs (2), 2 birds, 4 guinea pigs and 1 lizard. The house also look amazing when we got home. I would highly recommend Chris to care for your pets.”

“Alison was a loving and attentive cargiver for my dog Suede. I arrived home to a house that was sparkling clean and a calm and content pup. Alison even made homemade dog food for my dog and bought a ball and ball launcher for my dog.”

“Michaella was terrific! It was a short homestay with my two cats. They were obviously very well taken care of. Even my 'fraidy-cat void seemed relaxed which was a pleasant surprise! Michaella was responsive and very easy to work with. I won't hesitate to use her again.”

About: Dear pet parents, over the past 8 years, I’ve been traveling the world as a full time house and pet sitter lovingly caring for dogs and cats across six continents. For me, a home without pets simply doesn’t feel like home 🐱🐶 Along the way, I’ve also regularly worked in animal rescue which has given me experience with anxious animals as well as administering medication. I'm currently living and traveling in Canada and would love to offer my services. Feel free to message me and I’m happy to share lots of positive references 🤍 All the best, Verena I am currently studying online and spend a lot of time at home myself, which means I can dedicate plenty of time to your pets. However, since I also love being in nature, I enjoy taking long walks and even longer hikes. I prefer to care for animals in their familiar environment, at your home, and I do my best to stick to their usual routines and daily habits, as I have found through many years of experience that this is what is best for the animal. :)

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Duncan
Erin stayed at my house with my dog and two cats. I came home to a very clean house and happy animals. Erin sends lots of pictures every day. I could tell that she really loves the animals and they love her. This is the second time Erin has stayed with my pets and I would not hesitate to have her stay here with them again.

Sean is super great! Flexible and accommodating and totally understood my unique request to spend time with Badger while I'm away and my son is at school. He sent photos of our boy who looked so happy! It's such a relief to find someone who genuinely loves animals and can match big dog energy! Any dog in Sean's care will definitely be safe and happy ❤️

Cameron has stayed with my dog multiple times now and has been great everytime. She's a true German Shepherd and has a hard time with new people. She's also 100 pounds so not just anyone can watch her. Our house has been left clean every time. would definitely recommend him!

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Duncan maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Duncan walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Duncan choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 89% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
