Carollee took wonderful care of my pets while I was away on a work trip. She was very attentive and made sure to send frequent updates and photos, which gave me great peace of mind. My dog has been having some tummy issues lately, and she kept me informed about how she was doing throughout my trip. I arrived home to a neat and tidy house and, most importantly, happy and healthy animals. Thank you so much, Carollee! 😊

Carlin took great care of our dog while we were away for the weekend. She communicated clearly and consistently, and spent the time to gain the trust of our dog who is wary of strangers and often not comfortable around new people. I will be reaching out again next time we need someone to stay with our pup - thank you!

Etienne was so good with our fur babies. They were barking and excited and within 5 mins he was able to calm them down. We needed a dog sitter while we went for dinner as we didn’t feel comfortable leaving them in the hotel room by themselves. We had a carefree dinner and looking forward to using his services again.

About: I’m 55, and a lifelong pet owner. I have two dog-friendly cats Octavia & Mario, and a sweet Chihuahua girl Bellamy. Having relied on pet sitters myself, I understand the importance of finding a trustworthy, responsible, and experienced sitter. Your pet's happiness, safety, and well-being are my top priorities. Whether it's catering to the needs of a senior dog, providing training for a lively puppy, or simply offering comfort and companionship, I approach each interaction with patience, compassion, and expertise. I take pride in maintaining the daily routines of the pets I care for, ensuring stability and comfort in their environment. Whether it's a home visit, doggy day care, or overnight stay in my home, your pet will receive personalized attention and plenty of love. ______________________________________________ ** Boarding (My home) - Dogs must be good with cats and not chase them.** ** House Sitting (Your home) - My Chihuahua comes with me. She’s quiet and very well-behaved.** ______________________________________________ Taking care of pets isn't just something I do on the side – it's my full-time job. I'm dedicated to them all day, every day. From morning to night, I focus on making sure they're well-fed, exercised, and content. Playing, cuddling, and giving them attention is what I do best because it's my passion and my only priority. With your pet's well-being in mind, I maintain a clean, pet-friendly space conducive to their needs. Whether it's ensuring secure fencing in my yard for outdoor play or utilizing safe and reliable equipment during walks, I take every precaution to keep your pet protected. Additionally, I adhere strictly to any dietary or medical requirements, administering medications if needed, and providing a calm and nurturing environment.

Kirsten took care of our 2 little dogs, Bessie and Judy, for a week in our home while we were on holiday. We were so grateful for the care and love she showed them, especially since Judy can be a bit skittish with strangers at first. But thanks to Kirsten's delicate and extra care, and frequent updates, we had peace of mind that they were well taken care of. It was clear when we returned that they were totally at ease with her. Kirsten was also a great house guest. We wouldn't hesitate to ask her to take care of our girls again!

Tammy provided excellent care for both my home and my pets. She made sure my dog got daily walks and little adventures, and I really appreciated all the photo updates while I was away. My dog is a senior, and Tammy was incredibly thoughtful—she even brought a dog stroller so Bella could ride comfortably whenever she got tired. Tammy truly went above and beyond. She left my home clean and tidy, even organizing a few things around the house. I was welcomed home with freshly baked banana bread on the counter and a handwritten note, which was such a lovely touch. We would be absolutely happy to have Tammy back again and highly recommend her!

About: I have had animals my entire life and have been extremely involved in training and ensuring they get the best care possible! I have done a lot of dog training in reactivity, separation anxiety, and use positive reinforcement to ensure that the relationship between me and my pet(s) is built on love and trust. With every new pet, I let them approach me and I build a foundation of trust so that obedience is not something forced but given! I work part time but I have blocked out those days so that it won’t interfere, but other wise I work 7 hour shifts so if your pet is staying when I am working, they would have to be comfortable being home alone for those hours I care for my pets by using positive reinforcement and consistency. Consistency is key and is very beneficial for ensuring my pets can succeed in all aspects of their lives. I understand dog body language and know when to approach, let them be, or let them come to me. It’s about listening to boundaries, just like with us humans!

About: Animals have been apart of my life since I was a kid. I've cared for and raised animals of all kinds, from puppies to farm animals and small pets. My own dog, Rufus, has brought such light to my life, that I understand the important of comfortability when taking care of animals. Rufus has suffered from seizers since he was young. Through those experiences, I became comfortable with medication routines, food and digestion support, and providing calm energy and loving care during his episodes. Over the years I've experienced caring from many different types of animals, including cats, fish, hamsters, sugar gliders, farm dogs and other small pets. I think each animal has their own unique personality and I love getting to know them, which helps me understand the care they need. It is my upmost importance to make them feel safe and comfortable while their owners are away. I work from home and have a flexible schedule, which allows me to provide plenty of love, attention, and exercise throughout the day. I enjoy being active and going on hikes and walks so caring for animals, especially dogs, naturally fits into my daily routine. I treat every pet as if they were my own. I strive to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved while owners are away. I take the time to learn their routine, personality, and any special needs so I can provide consistent care and help them feel at ease. I am more than happy to provide regular updates and photos to owners so you can assure your furry family member is in goods hands.

About: I have been taking care of dogs through Rover for several years now and it’s been such a great experience. I have had my dog, Jasper for seven years and two other dogs with a previous partner. We have taken care of many dogs over the years though my current living situation only allows for me to do house/dog sitting at your home, but this will be changing soon and I hope to be able to host dogs at my own residence again in the near future. With that being said - if you are booking for my home sitting services, please note that I will need to bring Jasper with me for the stay. I am currently only able to provide in home dog/housesitting services at this time. I work a combination of from home and part-time out of the house. I am a homebody and love hanging out with the animals either at home or going on an adventure of some sort. My animals and those that I’m caring for are always well loved and taken care of.

About: Animals have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve cared for and raised animals of all kinds, from puppies and rescue dogs to farm animals and small pets. My own rescue dog, Indigo, taught me so much about patience, compassion, and attentive care as I supported her through both IVDD and cancer. Through that experience, I became very comfortable with medication routines, mobility support, changing needs, and providing calm, loving care through every stage of an animal’s life. I’ve also raised puppies and lived on a farm where I regularly cared for large farm dogs and cats. Over the years, I’ve had experience caring for many different animals, including parrots, snakes, hamsters, fish, rabbits, and other small pets. I genuinely love getting to know each animal’s unique personality and needs, and I always strive to make them feel safe, understood, and cared for while their owners are away. I work from home and have a very flexible schedule, which allows me to give pets lots of attention, consistency, and care throughout the day. I’m also a very active person and usually spend hours outside walking every day, so I’d genuinely love some furry companionship along the way - whether your dog prefers long adventures, slower sniff walks, or lots of playtime and attention. I live in a detached home with a fully fenced backyard and no other animals in the home, creating a calm and safe environment for your pet. I take animal care very seriously and have always treated every pet - whether my own or someone else’s - with patience, attentiveness, and genuine love. I cared for my sweet dog Indigo through both IVDD and cancer, which gave me firsthand experience supporting animals with medical needs, mobility limitations, medication routines, and changing comfort levels. That experience taught me that every animal is unique, and I’m happy to adapt to their individual routines, personalities, and care needs to help them feel safe and comfortable.

About: Since I can remember I’ve had such a love for animals and their beautiful personalities and energy. Since approximately 12 years of age I’ve cared for and raised dogs. My husband and I have had two wonderful companions for 16-18 years who are sadly no longer with us. We continue to want to have animals in our life and help where we can. We have experience with puppies , middle aged, and senior pups and love all the stages that each age ranges bring. With family member we understand the utmost care and trust is needed. When we had our two dogs our lives definitely revolved around the both of them. Whether it be walking, feeding, playing and medications - they always came first. They were family. Our home consists of 2.5 floors. We have hardwood and carpets (runners) available for dogs who have traction issues. We can carry dogs that weigh up to 20 Ibs up and down if needed if they are older and also utilize baby gates. Water is available up and down and we also have AC.

About: As an interior designer, I spend my days creating spaces that feel calm, comfortable, and welcoming, and I’ve always taken the same thoughtful approach with the animals I spend time with. I’ve loved animals my whole life, and spending time with them has always brought me a genuine sense of happiness. Over the years, I’ve volunteered at animal shelters and veterinary clinics, as well as cared for dogs and cats for family, friends, and through referrals. I love getting outside for walks and hikes, and there’s nothing better than having a four-legged companion along for the adventure. Whether your dog loves to explore or prefers a slower pace, I’ll take the time to get to know their personality and make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and well looked after while you’re away. I have experience caring for pets of all ages, from playful puppies and kittens to senior pets who may need a little extra patience and attention. I own my own interior design business and primarily work from home, which gives me a flexible schedule and allows me to dedicate plenty of time and attention to the pets in my care. I treat every home and every pet with the same care and respect I would my own. I’ll follow your pet’s routine as closely as possible, meeting their needs and making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and well looked after until you’re home again.

Spending Christmas and New Year’s abroad, we were glad to have Roseline looking after our 8-month-old puppy and two cats. The pets were well cared for and the house was left in great shape, which gave us peace of mind while we were away. One area for improvement would be closer adherence to care instructions, particularly around pet separation and routines. Overall, a kind and attentive pet sitter — thank you for helping us travel without worry.

FAQs for House Sitting - Sooke

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Sooke on Rover is $63.22 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 609 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Sooke. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Sooke maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Sooke walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Sooke choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.

If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.

If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 89% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
