“We had a great experience with Alexa. She was an excellent communicator and kept us updated throughout Tucker’s stay, which gave us real peace of mind. We’d happily book with her again and highly recommend her to other pet owners.”

“Diana has done multiple sittings for Cassie, and every time is always great. Reliable, great level of care, and good communication leads to piece of mind as a dog owner!”

“Great communicator and wonderful with our girl Frankie, who has some particularly demanding (and sometimes inconvenient!) needs. She treated our home exceptionally well and truly went above and beyond. I could go on and on about how great Christi was and judging by her reviews and many repeat clients, I’m clearly not the only one.”

“She is a very good listener, communicated well & gave our senior cat meds, feel very comfortable having her stay at our house to care for our cat with special needs, highly recommend!”

“Sonja was absolutely amazing! She really helped us out in such a pinch when we really needed her. It is very hard for me to leave my dog with anybody, and I rarely do it, so I was very particular who could watch him and my instincts were correct. Sonja is a very good person and a genuine animal lover. Her love for animals is palpable and not at all a performance. My dog loved her from the minute he met her and he was in excellent hands with her.”

“Wish I could give Richelle six stars. I felt great leaving my dogs who both are temperamental in their own ways. Richelle took fantastic notes about how to care for my dogs. She was very communicative, which I asked for, and checked in with me each night before bed with a long update! My dogs were tired out each day from their walks, got some good backyard time, and even some extra special treats from her. She asked before feeding them anything extra, which I really appreciated. My house was clean when I got back. Couldn’t recommend her enough - specifically for us per parents that have troublesome animals and have anxiety about it. Thank you again, Richelle. So glad I found her and will definitely use her again in the future when I go away for work if she will have me!”

“Chantal was wonderful. My pups were well cared for and my home was spotless when I returned. Chantal took the time to set the routine with the dogs and I could tell she understood their needs and quirks and made sure they were comfortable. I would absolutely have Chantal back again!”

“We had an amazing experience leaving our senior beagle Elliott in Maia's care. It was our first time having a sitter, and Maia not only put us at ease about the whole process but went above and beyond our expectations. Elliott instantly gravitated to her, you can always tell when someone truly loves animals. He was so happy to stick with his routine and Maia took great care to understand his quirky personality. She was professional, sent regular updates, and was quick to reply (even before our booking). We'd gladly entrust Elliott to her care in future and recommend to others.”

“Silas was amazing. He looked after our two dogs with such love and compassion. We never had to worry about checking in as he would send us updates, videos and photos of their walks and playtime in the backyard. We would recommend him to look after anyones pets. We wish we had found him sooner.”

“Absolutely amazing! Madison went above and beyond. This was our first time using this service and we were very nervous as our dog is reactive and we didn’t know how he would be. Madison was quick to respond to messages and very knowledgeable on how to handle Oakley. We will definitely seek her out for future sitting needs”

About: Please note I can NOT take dogs over 15” at the shoulder. If your dog is under 15" at the shoulder I can take them even if they weigh 35 lbs. Thanks for understanding. Also ROVER charges you 11% on top of my rate. Plus they take 20% of whatever is booked. Thought you should know :) Now on to the profile. Also I have my location set for housesitting in Alberta in August as I will be there. Already booked up for July and September on Vancouver Island. I honestly love animals. I sometimes ask my friends to come over, just so I can hang out with their dogs. (my friends are okay with this) I'm well versed in giving dogs and cats their medication orally, or mixed in with food. I don't give needles. All of my dogs, except one lived to ripe old ages and I am well versed in dealing with mobility issues, deafness, blindness and incontinence. I love animals of all ages and I truly believe each stage of their life enhances ours. I have dealt with foster dogs with PTSD and I'm well aware how slow movements and soft voices are highly important to make a pet feel comfortable. I've taken a few dogs from vicious to cuddle bug in my time. Yes, some of them took months, but in the end, they learned to trust. All they need is love, patience and the time to destress and learn that not every human will hurt them. That being said, I'm not up for sitting a reactive dog at this time. I understand that your pets will need to approach me, not the other way around. Of course I will try to coax them to come to me, but if they don't, I'm okay with that. I simply want to give care to animals and get their companionship, if only for a short time, in return. I am semi-retired and work from home. As I have a fenced yard, I can easily accommodate small and medium sized dogs. I may have to go out for an hour here and there, but, for the most part, I am home. I have a fenced yard for dogs. Sorry - no cats at this time. If your dog is crate trained, they can stay in my bedroom with me in the crate, or if they are completely housetrained, they can even snuggle on the bed if that is your preference. When looking after pets in your home, I will follow their routine, as advised by you.
“Hailey was absolutely fantastic! She took such great care of Maverick, making sure he was well-fed, exercised, and given plenty of love and attention. It was clear from the updates she sent that our pup was happy and comfortable in her care. Hailey is responsible, kind, and truly loves animals. We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and will definitely be booking her again in the future. Highly recommend!”

About: I adore all animals and bring a sense of care and energy to every animal I look after. I love walking and love to check out all the local trails with your pup! I look forward to meeting your four legged friend :) I am a recent graduate looking for employment. I have a very flexible schedule and would be available for any pet care needs! From walking to house sitting, I will be there. I have house sat for past clients and maintained a tidy environment. I leave everything the way I found it and if anything is off limits, I simply do not touch. I do not have the means to care for an animal at my own home but am very able to come to a clients home.
“Ashley took attentive care of my cat for a week including giving him his asthma inhaler each morning. She sent me pictures throughout the week and kept in touch. I came home to a spotlessly clean home and the linens and towels were washed, too. Thank you Ashley!”

“Elizabeth was fantastic with Lou and our home. She was communicative, flexible and very keen to learn about Lou and her routine. We (and Lou) can’t wait to have her back!”

“Danielle was super responsive when booking to watch our boy Archie. We were looking for boarding but due to visitors in her home she offered the alternative to come to our house instead which was perfect for him to stay comfortable in his own home. She was greatly attentive and Archie seemed to love every minute of her stay. Our home was perfectly clean when Danielle left and she even went so far as to change the sheets for us. 10/10 recommend any of her services and will definitely rebook another stay for Archie.”

Rory responded to a last-minute request due to a different dog-sitter cancelling. He was responsive and polite and an absolute pleasure to deal with. I have 3 rescue dogs - a lot of work for even an experienced dog-lover. Not only did Rory take amazing care of my 3 pups with joy, he far exceeded my expectations, sending me daily pics of beach romps, walks, cuddles and play time. When I came home after 5 days away, the dogs we happy and well-cared for, the house was spotless and all bedding and towels has been cleaned. I could not be happier - Rory is sheer sunshine to me! I would 100% use Rory in future, and will happily recommend him to anyone else looking for a caring sitter for their beloved pet.

Kelsey was excellent. Despite the fact she had a “day job” my dogs were well taken care of. Lots of cuddles and walks. I have a barky blue heeler and Kelsey didn’t hesitate to look after him. It’s obvious she has experience with “special” dogs and it showed. She stayed in our house and left it tidy. Highly recommend.

Alexa helped us in a pinch while we were visiting Victoria, and we are so grateful! She was so great in communication, and sent adorable photos of our pups while we were away. I can tell she truly loves animals. I wish we could use her services in our own town. Thanks Alexa!!

Frankie quickly won over our dogs, even our skittish rescue. She was so good with them that I felt totally comfortable leaving them in her care. Frankie accommodated their many needs and they were chill when we came home! We will definitely be asking her back and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her.

I feel like posting an animated gif of the happy Snoopy dance! I left Michaella with a convalescing cat, a skiddish black cat named Coffey, and a house in a bit of disarray. I returned to a spotless home, and two happy, well cared for kitties. Coffey tried to convince me that he was angry with me (he hid for 30 minutes), but I have photographic proof he enjoyed himself with the sitter! I have Michaella booked again for a longer stay in a couple of months and now feel totally at ease leaving everything in her capable hands.

Absolutely amazing! Madison went above and beyond. This was our first time using this service and we were very nervous as our dog is reactive and we didn’t know how he would be. Madison was quick to respond to messages and very knowledgeable on how to handle Oakley. We will definitely seek her out for future sitting needs

Angela really put me at ease leaving my dog Ghost for the first time using Rover. She not only was so warm and friendly with him, but sent me update photos on my trip away to reassure me he was feeling happy and comfortable :) She is super communicative and kind. She was also very accommodating by staying at my home where he was more comfortable, which was above and beyond. Thank you so so much Angela for caring for Ghost!

Rae was so great. She provided lots of picture updates, was quick with communication, and went above and beyond to meet Louis’ needs. He is a shy dog with a history of reactivity, and he immediately warmed up to her. She also left my place in immaculate condition. I would highly recommend her for anyone’s pet care needs!

Ahneke took care of our dog Flora for several hours on the weekend. She was wonderful with her, and we returned home to a relaxed pup. It was a last minute request, so I really appreciated Ahneke’s responsiveness and flexibility. Her calm, warm manner with Flora made it easy to trust her with the care of our dog. I would highly recommend her!

Diane was amazing! She cared for our active and dramatic Duck Toller, Margot, for a four day dog sit in our home. Diane sent lots of photos throughout the day, showing all of their walks, adventures, play time, and nap times. You could tell Margot was a happy girl when we got home, and Diane gave Margot her evening walk and dinner as our flight got in late. We really appreciated that detail. Our home and plants were well cared for as well. We will definitely be hiring Diane again.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Oak Bay on Rover is $50.88 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Oak Bay maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Oak Bay walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Oak Bay choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 89% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
