“Grant and Kate were great pet sitters. Firstly, they arrived on time when they said they would, which allowed us to get to the ferry stress free. They were responsive, read the pet briefs beforehand, and left us feeling confident they could handle our pet's various medications while we were away- which they did. They kept us updated regularly while we were away. When we returned the pets were all sleeping contentedly and the house was clean, calm, and orderly, which is a big thing when you have four pets in less than 600 square feet. Highly recommend Grant and Kate as pet sitters.”

“Gwen was so great with our pup! It was so nice to see the photos of their adventures. There was a little bit of chaos while we were away, which she handled like a champ! Definitely recommend.”

“She is a very good listener, communicated well & gave our senior cat meds, feel very comfortable having her stay at our house to care for our cat with special needs, highly recommend!”

“Kate took amazing care of both Hilde and Tony while we were away for a long weekend. She made sure they were loved and cared for and we truly appreciate her. Also, our home was super clean and the garden was watered and thriving upon our return. We highly recommend Kate and will definitely be reaching out to her again.”

“Aya was wonderfully communicative throughout her stay with our two complex rescue dogs, both of whom take oral medications daily. Additionally, she left our house beautifully clean! We look forward to having her stay with our pups again.”
“Maddy was wonderful with River. She was reliable, communicative, and clearly cared about making sure he felt comfortable and well looked after. I appreciated the updates and photos, and it gave me real peace of mind knowing he was in such good hands. River seemed happy and relaxed when I got home, which says a lot. I would absolutely recommend Maddy to anyone looking for a caring and trustworthy dog walker or sitter.”

“Rita was punctual, communicated when we were away and our dog seemed super happy with her care. Thanks so much. I was really relaxed knowing someone was taking care of Whisky while we were away .”

“Once again, Diane did a super job. She’s reliable. Our 13 year old cat was well taken care of. Our place is clean and tidy. Thanks for giving us peace of mind during our vacation!”

“Great communication overall and followed through with all requests. Stayed with our dog overnight in our home and he was a happy pup when we returned. Thank you so much for looking after Murphy!”

“Val was such a warm person! They provided nice little updates each day and we could see how Stella was quick to be a couch buddy once she knew she was safe. Val seemed comfortable and knowledgeable about Stella's needs - asked lots of great questions. We left for our trip feeling absolutely confident. We also came back to the home being in perfect condition. Thanks, Val!”

“So appreciative for Stephanie! She was so responsive and made my first try with Rover so easy. Have had relied on friends to help me out in the past, but this experience was so incredible thanks to Stephanie that this is now my go-to plan for my furry family going forward. She was so friendly with my shy pups, totally understanding of their care and needs. She sent messages and pics while I was away and just totally eased my mind. Can't thank her enough!”

“Ashley took attentive care of my cat for a week including giving him his asthma inhaler each morning. She sent me pictures throughout the week and kept in touch. I came home to a spotlessly clean home and the linens and towels were washed, too. Thank you Ashley!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Victoria
Mackenzie took very good care of our sweet bunny Raven while we were out of town for a few days. We were looking for someone who had experience caring for house rabbits and were very happy to find Mackenzie. Rabbits are very particular about their routines and Mackenzie followed it beautifully. She made sure Raven had everything she needed plus some 1-on-1 time everyday were were gone. Mackenzie was kind enough to send photos of Raven while she was caring for her so we could see how our silly bun was doing in our absence. Thanks so much Mackenzie! We look forward to booking you again in the future! :)

We were so happy to have Steven take such good care of our dog and our house. Our dog seemed very happy and Steven's communication, flexibility and photos were so appreciated! We highly recommend and would certainly ask him for help with our dog again. Thank you!

We had a wonderful experience with Madeline as our in-house pet sitter for 10 days! Madeline was very dependable for arrangements and was amazing in her attentiveness and engagement with our shy Aussie Doodle and independent cat and totally won them both over. Madeline sent us daily texts, photos and stories of all of the walks, playing and cuddles when we were away. When we arrived home, both pets were happy and relaxed and clearly well cared for, as was our immaculately clean home! Our expectation's were far exceeded as a first time pet sitting experience and we are very appreciative. We highly recommend Madeline and will be asking her to pet sit for us again as well! Thanks again Madeline!
Alynne was absolutely amazing! She not only kept me updated thoroughly throughout her overnight Stay at my home. I came back and my little girl Lucy was happier and calmer than I’ve seen her. And on top of the amazing dog care My home was better than I left it. I couldn’t recommend her more for taking care of your fur babe when you’re gone. 🙏🐶

Rae was exactly what her profile promised — friendly, organized, and communicative from start to finish. She sent tons of photos and videos throughout the week and checked in even more than we expected, which put our minds at ease. She handled both of our dogs beautifully: our senior dog with his medications and slower pace, and our young reactive dog who needs daily walks and has way more energy. Highly recommend her!

With all factors of our request and the short timing of it all, Darcie was a life saver. She was amazing with our pets, even had our non social cats manage to come out from their hiding to say hi and cuddle which is amazing. Our Dog was exhausted and happy from the love and exercise provided which made coming home a lot calmer. She is really clear on communication and updates, with photos, which is a huge sigh of relief from a pet parent who is away and was successful at pilling our one cat, which she usually fights with when its not us. We would definitely book again when we need another pet sitter and would recommend when you want someone who will care for your fur babies the way you would care for them.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Victoria maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Victoria walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Victoria choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 89% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
