“We had an amazing experience leaving our senior beagle Elliott in Maia's care. It was our first time having a sitter, and Maia not only put us at ease about the whole process but went above and beyond our expectations. Elliott instantly gravitated to her, you can always tell when someone truly loves animals. He was so happy to stick with his routine and Maia took great care to understand his quirky personality. She was professional, sent regular updates, and was quick to reply (even before our booking). We'd gladly entrust Elliott to her care in future and recommend to others.”

“Aya responded promptly and was on time both evening that we booked with her. She was very friendly, gentle and calm. Charlie loved spending time with her. She also sent a number of pictures to update us on how he was doing and we really appreciated it. We will definitely book with Aya again the next time we are in Victoria!”

“Diane was absolutely wonderful with Milo. She went above and beyond to make sure he was well taken care of while I was gone and brought him on many doggie adventures. I will absolutely hire her again to care for Milo!!”

“Coralie, provided excellent care and love for my dog waffles. Coralie did a couple of long hikes which he loves and they appeared to bond , to the point where he actually slept in her room, which is highly unusual for a Waffle. Coralie was very good at communicating and sending me updates. I would recommend her in a heartbeat. I am presently on a cruise so my daughter picked waffle up yesterday and was very impressed with Coralie as well and the house was immaculate. I cannot recommend Coralie enough!”

“I was leery of leaving my pets & home for 3 weeks with someone I didn’t know, but Kate immediately put me at ease. I felt great knowing my cats were in good, caring hands. I appreciated receiving regular photos & progress updates. My pets seemed comfortable & content. My home was well taken care of, also. I’ll definitely ask her to sit again in the future.”

“Ashley was amazing. She communicates very well, is punctual and reliable, and seemed to genuinely enjoy the time she spent with our fur babies. We came home to four very relaxed, happy cats who were obviously very well cared for. She had no concerns about the special instructions we had for them. And she shared the perfect amount of information/photos with us and checked in quickly when there was something a bit off with one of the cats. Our condo was very clean when we got back. We absolutely recommend Ashley for cat sitting, she is a gem!”

About: Dogs and cats have always been special to me. Your furry family members are safe in my care. Check-ins, feedings, and medicine applications are all in my repertoire. I'm a BC native, new to the island. I'm a mortgage broker and have plenty of spare time, so pet sitting fits right into my lifestyle. I'll be there for your beloved family members when they need me. Walkings, feedings, medicine applications, pets, snuggles, and other common means of care are certainly available. I can also teach common tricks, if you have any requests.
“This was our first time using Rover, and we definitely had some apprehensions about having someone stay in our home and care for our 9-year-old German Shepherd, Snoopy, while we were out of the country. Vlad completely put our minds at ease. He house-sat and cared for Snoopy for two weeks, keeping us updated every day with messages and photos. He followed Snoopy’s normal routine, made sure Snoopy received his morning medication, and took wonderful care of him. He even watered our plants outside after noticing that they were drying up. It was especially reassuring to see how well Snoopy bonded with Vlad; he followed him around the house and would happily lie beside him (and even on his feet!) while Vlad worked remotely. We came home to a happy, well-cared-for dog and a home that was exactly as we left it. Vlad was responsible, respectful, communicative, and clearly genuinely cared about Snoopy. We would happily book Vlad again and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for someone they can trust with their home and their pets. Thank you, Vlad, for taking such great care of our boy! 🐾❤️”

About: I grew up with dogs in my family which has formed my love of pets. For the past several years, my family, friends and neighbors have trusted me to look after their dogs and cats while they are away. This ranges from a small pug, to a medium sized mixed breed dog. I have also looked after cats from kittens to older cats. I live in the Fairfield area and I have a 4 year old sweetheart golden retriever myself. My golden keeps me active going to parks and beaches in the Fairfield area so my preference is for pet sitting in this area as I am very familiar with good walking routes. I would be open to a meet and greet to see if I am a good fit for your furry family member! I'm currently going to school part time so my schedule is pretty flexible to care for your furry family member! I am available most mornings and anytime after 4pm. I am available for pet sitting Friday afternoon through to the weekend. I know its hard to leave your furry family member at home so I make it a priority to send plenty of photo and daily updates. Let's schedule a meet-and-greet to chat about your pet's perfect routine! I want to have fun with your pet so we can play games inside the house with treats (if allowed) and go for walking adventures around your neighborhood or local parks near by.
“Rita was able to connect well with our grumpy old dog who usually hates being left with sitters. She was even able to take our dog out for walks which no other pet sitter has been able to do before. We were incredibly happy with how well Rita took care of our pets. She sent us updates and pictures which really helped to ease our anxiety. The house was clean when we returned and all of our animals were happy, healthy and very obviously well cared for all weekend!”

“Miche has been a fantastic pet sitter - great communication, attention to the dogs and overall just a lovely human to have stay in your home. Thank you so much for the peace of mind while we are away!”

“Michaella was amazing with Dunkin. I had a last minute change of plans and she was very flexible and still able to accommodate everything! She sent lots of pictures and Dunkin had the best time. Would love to book with her again soon!”

“Truly amazing with both of our dogs. Not only did my exceptionally friendly dog decide Erin was her new best friend instantly, but even my extremely nervous dog who is terrified of new people was won over in record time. Erin was fabulous, attentive and the absolute perfect sitter. We’d rehire her in a heartbeat.”

“Cole was absolutely great. He had great communication beforehand and during (sending photos and updates!). He was clearly comfortable with dogs and I could tell my dog was a happy doggo. He walked him twice a day for a couple KM and 100% will be using him again!”

“Aodahn was wonderful with my dogs and house over Christmas. He knew how to bond with my dogs and took great care of them. He also took great care of the house and left it super clean and tidy. Thank you Aodahn.”

“Adria from the moment we met her had a very comforting energy, that gave me faith I could trust her with my dog. He struggles with some separation anxiety and in the 3.5 years I have had him, I have only left him with family, so to say I was nervous would be an understatement. Right away when I left she messaged me and let me know he was a little upset and she was going to take him for a walk to calm him. She seems to have an innate ability to tap into animal needs. For the duration of my trip (3 days), she was updating with photos and it really gave me a sense of peace knowing that he was outside and being well taken care of. On arrival home, she washed all the sheets and put them on the bed, you would hardly know she was even there. She is such a respectful dog sitter and I highly recommend her to anyone to feel uneasy leaving you animals behind.”

Kamryn was an amazing sitter! She was super communicative and in every picture she sent me it seems like Enzo was having the time of his life! She followed all the instructions perfectly and my home was exactly how I left it. I definitely recommend Kamryn and will be rebooking in the future!

Richelle was great, living in while we were away for 4 weeks. She was extremely attentive to our needy 15-yr old torbie, Ashanti, ensuring she got lots of supervised backyard time while we were away. This included keeping a watch out for raccoons, a potential hazard. She went so far as to remove the dead blooms on all of my rose bushes and the one tree lily that flowered just before we left. She kept us apprised of any perceived issues; Ashanti *plucks* when stressed, and occasionally *spots*. The house was neat and tidy when we returned. I highly recommend Richelle and hope she's available the next time my brother and I go on holiday.

Sumiah stepped in at the last minute when our existing care plans fell through. She communicated quickly, clearly, and arrived and departed exactly as scheduled. I had no qualms about leaving my anxious senior pup with her and would recommend her without reservation to anyone who values competent and empathetic pet care.

We can't thank Erin enough for the kindness and care she showed our two dogs while we were on our family vacation. She had great communication and was so flexible with us as we made our plans. One of our dogs is a puppy and she was so patient with him. Both of our dogs loved her and were so comfortable with her. She took great care of them as well as our house. We highly recommend Erin and will definitely request her again in the future. Thank you, Erin!

I feel blessed to discover Michaella! I left her to watch over my home and two cats for a little over two weeks. I couldn't have asked for better communication and care. She followed directions, and asked questions when clarity was needed. But most importantly, the cats appeared to really like her, including my VERY shy void!

Kirk took wonderful care of our two dogs and cat and our home while we were away for a week. From the meet & greet through drop-off, he was easy to coordinate with and flexible when our meet & greet schedule shifted at the last minute. While we were gone he sent regular updates and photos, and the pets were clearly comfortable and happy with him, cuddling up and resting on his lap by the first day. He went well beyond the basics: keeping up with watering our garden daily during a hot stretch, doing laundry (sheets and towels) and remaking the bed before we got home. When something unexpected came up (a mix-up while looking for a broom that accidentally knocked something over), he let us know right away rather than leaving us to discover it — I really appreciated the honesty and communication. He made sure the dogs got a good walk before heading out, left the house tidier than we left it for him, and handled timing of arrival and departure (and the key drop-off) exactly as we'd requested. We came home to a happy house and happy pets. I highly recommend Kirk for anyone looking for a trustworthy, communicative, and genuinely caring sitter.
Grace and Kirk were thorough, thoughtful, and very attentive. Grace provided wonderful updates along the way and was very easy to communicate with. My Great Dane has some specific requirements and I felt very confident leaving him with them. I can’t recommend Grace and/or Kirk enough and I would happily have them watch Norman again in the future!

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Victoria maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Victoria walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Victoria choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 89% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
