I’ve absolutely adored animals since I was a little girl! I always wanted to own a dog or a cat, but grew up with guinea pigs. My piggies were an anchor in my life and taught me lots about little animals and caring for them (although I did not know how much cleaning was required 😭). When I started working at petsmart in their grooming salon, I thought working with dogs was going to be super fun and fulfilling. I was definitely not ready for how much work and learning I was going to go through. After I’d been there for about a year, I learned all about grooming (including baths, brushing, nail trims, paw grooming) and how important it was for all the different breeds of dogs. I loved the experience I got from grooming dogs and learning different signs of stress (critical and non critical), different types of brushes for breeds and so much more! Now, I’ve been working at a doggy daycare for about a year, and I’ve extended my experience with dogs to seeing how they play, how they fight, how they get along and become friends. I’ve learned so much about body language, how to differentiate different behaviours and anticipate situations before they happen, and learn to regulate my own emotions in such a big space with lots of dogs. I care for the smallest chihuahas to the biggest bernese alongside my coworkers, as well as the 5 month old puppy that comes in to learn to socialize, and the 12 year old senior who has been with us since the beginning, and I could not be happier anywhere else! I’ve also had the privilege to care for 20-25 dogs at a time in a fully fenced area in the forest as their outdoor adventure. I supervise their play time, their behaviours with the other dogs and their own emotions while being out there. I love all sizes and all ages, and continously learn more about these pups every day 🤍
